A lot of kids in the city tend to support the big premiership clubs, that tends to start at school where it's not cool to support anyone but the big clubs and you get bullied if you do. That was certainly the case in my day and I can't see it having changed much. Kids round my way are all still wearing premiership shirts. I don't know if that's any different in the county, but I doubt it. Unless their parents are Leicester fans, it's highly unlikely that kids growing up in the city will ever support Leicester. The only way we'll attract them is to be in the premiership for a while and maybe pick up a cup here and there. Even then, those kids have to be strong willed enough to put up with the crap they'll get everyday. It was easy for me to support Leicester as I was getting the crap for being a Numan fan so the club I supported made no difference

Teaching in Oadby, many of the students are Leicester fans or season ticket holders. It's my job to brainwash them. A third of my form go to City games!

Born Leicester, moved to Sheffield, moved back to Leicester, now in the West Midlands.

In the last 10 years I have only lived in Leicester for two years. This seems strange to me but it is true.

I wonder if the question was about where you were born whether it would show a majority born in the City of Leicester?

This sounds eerily familiar. Grew up in thurmaston (sign just outside my house says 'welcome to the city of Leicester', spent 10 yrs in Yorkshire - now the mrs has dragged me out to Solihull!!!

Thoroughly, thoroughly enjoying how this thread has developed and getting to know a bit about fellow FT posters. Somehow makes it a tad less anonymous and harsh. For my part, county as a kid (sticks out towards Melton), Uni down south in 80's, travelled to matches from home counties in 90's and noughties, back to East Mids for last 5 years.

Technically Wigston is outside Leicester, but there's no discernable gap (much like Oadby, Blaby, Glenfield, Thurmaston and countless other "towns"), but if anyone asks me where I'm from I always say Leicester. So I'm not sure what I am.

I feel the same about Syston. It's officially in the county but it's really a glorified suburb.

Born at the General, grew up in Oadby (for the most part), went to Uni near London, moved to Tanzania, moved to Liberia, back to London, now live in America (for last 5 years), looking to move back to Africa.

Why do people in East Anglia support Leicester rather than Norwich or Ipswich?

Isn't it because that is where all the Leicester folk go on Holiday? Or perhaps that is just my family? And then a number of people retire there or just end up staying, so it probably lead to an infiltration of City supporters.

No, it's a fair comment, I was talking about the whole topic on another thread where a lad seemed surprised when I thought the majority would travel to games from the county rather than cityr

i tried to tell the lad that to, he wouldn't l;isten though
