Mark_w Posted 28 November 2012 Posted 28 November 2012 All of a sudden the talk is now of needing another striker. What's changed for most people? It only changed to 'we don't need a new striker' a few games ago. I think a lot of people just mindlessly flip between the two depending on how our strikers played in the last game.
berniethebolt Posted 28 November 2012 Posted 28 November 2012 All of a sudden the talk is now of needing another striker. What's changed for most people? for me and I hope I'm wrong I just cant see Waghorn being prolific, same with Vardy untill/if he adjusts to a higher league. They link play up well, apply good pressure to defences, but seldom score. I can however see Nuge going on a drier spell than hes currently on. Another striker who could contribute a steady 10 goals could be enough to keep the momentum to give us a stab at automatic promotion. In not adding i think we will more likey be in the playoffs, which i am confident we will reach.
Corky Posted 28 November 2012 Posted 28 November 2012 No I'm not .... i just don't rate him .... he tries hard but isn't good enough ... and him being in the team is costing us dearly .... We need strikers to score, not run at lost causes, it's promotion to the Premier League we are looking for not to the Sunday Alliance div4 where trying hard is good enough. What is this shite? Waghorn hasn't just been about "trying hard", he has linked up very well with the rest of the team in recent games and has allowed Dyer to express himself and offered our central midfield another option. Fine, go and get another striker but don't give out this rubbish that all he does is run around.
5waller5 Posted 28 November 2012 Posted 28 November 2012 Just how is having him in team 'costing us dearly'? His link up play has been superb. He's layed on a couple of assists for other players, he's scored one himself and should have had more, his all round game has been great since he's had a run in the side. Other players have been scoring the goals, it's not like we're going through a barren spell in front of goal - we've put away 8 goals in our last three games. Even if you don't want him in the team, what would you do instead? Get a loan in? Pearson said the targets they wanted weren't available. Play Futacs? His record's even worse than Waghorn's. Play Vardy? He's been injured and now he looks bereft of confidence and form. Play Schlupp? His record as a striker is terrible too and we've needed him to play at LB. So instead of moaning about him, why don't you just get behind him instead? What is moaning going to accomplish? Do you think Pearson's going to log on to FT and think to himself 'Shit, 5waller5 doesn't rate Waggy, better drop him immediately' No I don't think Pearson is going to read that 5waller5 doesn't like Waghorn and stop playing him. I did however enter into a forum regarding Leicester City for the discussion of things that relate to Leicester City. My mistake ... I must be in the wrong place, Thanks for pointing that out to me. Just out of interest ..... If i type in here ( Waghorn is an exceptional talent and bound to score loads) .... using your logic then this will happen??? Amazing, I'd have done it sooner had I realised that the only reason he can't hit a barn door with a banjo is that I think he's rubbish and said so on FT!!!! I feel such a tart!!!

I didn't go last night - but all I heard was "through ball to Waghorn, he's lost out to....." Ball to Waghorn, miscontrolled and allowed x to intercept" "Waghorn, ball at his feet, tackled by x, and Leeds emerge" ....... This link up play is the typical Waghorn (blazes over) excuse offered for him not doing anything other than run around, put effort in and be a nice bloke.

Yet at Bolton, against Forest and Ipswich and at Wednesday he was fine, he linked up very well and the team played around him because he was clever with his passing and movement. It's not a typical excuse, it's a part of his game that he does well. Finishing is something he needs to improve. We can do better than him. But he doesn't just run around and put effort in. He's helped the team recently.

He has been suddenly noticeable that he is actually linking up play occassionally and looking for the ball ..... they are basic requirements of any man in the team .... to be having a striker that offers just this and effort is woefully short ..... and the fact that he's offered a bit for 3 games and then gone back to nothing and in 600 odd minutes of football has scored one goal - he's just not good enough.

That's fine, but you seem to think he should be dropped over Vardy, whilst I think both are about equal generally, I think it's fairly clear Waghorn is playing better than Vardy right now. I was following the wrong discussion, you aren't one of the posters I was refering to you'll be glad to know.

I think you're right .... there's very little to choose between the two .... But, I've seen enough of Waghorn (blazes over) to know he's not good enough, with Vardy this is a new challenge to him and he needs time to bed in - I've not seen enough of Vardy to make my mind up whether he's going to be a gamble that comes good or not.
Guest Col city fan Posted 29 November 2012 Posted 29 November 2012 There's no point arguing with Mark w about Waggy mate. Him and 'one goal Waghorn' go together like peaches and cream, fish and chips or pie and mash. Mark w equals Mark waghorn I would suspect?

Guest Col city fan Posted 29 November 2012 Posted 29 November 2012 Yeah, I'm the one looking for an argument. Just kidding mate.. I too hope Waggy starts scoring regularly. If not, we'll need to look further afield.
Mark_w Posted 29 November 2012 Posted 29 November 2012 Just kidding mate.. I too hope Waggy starts scoring regularly. If not, we'll need to look further afield. You're right. I just hope he's given enough time for a fair decision to be made, the end of the season should do, afterall we were all happy to give Pearson the season to prove he's still as good as he was in 09/10.
Babylon Posted 29 November 2012 Posted 29 November 2012 All of a sudden the talk is now of needing another striker. What's changed for most people? It hasn't changed that much, in fact since Beckford went it's something what seems like the majority have wanted.

As you know I didn't have great expectations for this season anyway and I'm really impressed so far with our league position. Giving Waghorn till the end of the season? I'm not sure about that. I'd give him till Jan. If he's scoring on a relatively regular basis by then, stick with the lad. If not, we need to buy a striker in if we want a good shout at promotion. IMO.

Let's not forget that the strikers we have now are the strikers who have played their part in us being fourth in the league. The fact that we've scored 8 goals in the last 4 games would also suggest that things are looking up.
Captain... Posted 29 November 2012 Posted 29 November 2012 The Waghorn Debate: Anyone who pays any attention to my posts will know I am a fan of Waghorn, I am not the only one, you can add Nigel Pearson and Stuart Pearce to the list of Waghorn admirers. There are 2 sides to this debate, is he good enough right now... 1)...to be the main striker as he was against Leeds? No, that is not his game and neither is it Vardy's they need someone to play-off to take the goal scoring responsibility. 2)...to play alongside someone who can lead the line and score goals? In the last few games yes, he was instrumental to us picking up points against Derby, Forest and Ipswich, but he has only scored once in that run, despite some bad luck and great keeping. 3)...to be third choice and sit on the bench? Yes, he is still young and getting better, if he keeps injury free for a couple of seasons he will be a superb player at this level. So what can you do? In my opinion we probably need someone to challenge Nugent, if NP wants to set-up with one man leading the line, and one man playing behind and linking up with the midfield, we only have Nugent to play that role, Futacs is not in the same league is Nugent, the other option is Beckford but I'm not going to go there. The problem is if we sign someone to challenge Nugent for his place, like Austin, how can we manage both of them, when they play a similar role and both want to be in the team? I see Nugent and Austin working as well as Nugent and Beckford. This is not just about Waghorn or Vardy's goal scoring prowess, it is about the balance and make-up of the team. The second side is will he be good enough in a few years: I think he will improve and get better, but hopefully so will we, so we will have to see, I can see Waghorn tearing up the championship in a few years time that's for sure.

Top Post Captain with regards to your point about a partner for Nugent I would be inclined to go for someone that could hold the ball up as well as score goals in this league and the prem their are a couple of examples, such as Darius Henderson, Chris Wood, Steve Morison, Theo Robinson etc.

hornyhollthefox123 Posted 29 November 2012 Posted 29 November 2012 Not getting into an argument about this but it's seriously frustrating reading some posts in this thread. We all loved the Waghorn the 09-10 season and were ecstatic when we signed him permanently. He played well under Pearson and is now starting to show some form in a Leicester shirt under Pearson again. It needs to be taken into account the fact that last year Waghorn had a serious serious injury for someone who even now is only 22. He has proved to us all that he has serious potential and so we have to be reasonably patient that this potential will show through. He is now fully fit again and has played just over half a dozen games for us in recent weeks. The only game i can't comment on is the Leeds one as i wasn't there but he has been mightily impressive in every other game he has featured in recently. Bolton, Ipswich and Shef Wed were all good performances and he may have only scored once but you can see his confidence increasing. He is a massive confidence player and IMO he will do well this season and i think we may finally see the Waghorn we all hoped for. Also, at least make a judgement after a few more games, because for me i find it difficult to know what more you want from a striker who leads the line in a 6-0 win against Ipswich, 2-0 win against Wednesday and who nearly won us the game at Bolton. As well as this, he hit the bar against Wednesday and again against Leeds with a fantastic volley. Had they gone in we would ALL be singing his praises. Just open your eyes some of you realise he brings a lot to this team especially while Nugent is away. Although of course we could play Futacs and Vardy, which i'm sure many of you would somehow prefer.
Happy Fox Posted 29 November 2012 Posted 29 November 2012 Ian Stringer â€@StringerSport David Nugent will miss the #lcfc game against Derby this weekend through injury Bollocks highlights how shit it is without him.
lovelcfc Posted 29 November 2012 Posted 29 November 2012 Oh shite nuge Is still out, anyway with waggy you can definately see he's improving with every game, whilst he won't score as many as nuge will, he does a lot of good stuff without the ball
