Chef - describes a visit to Leicester "as one of the most frightening experiences of my life".

First time I found myself lost and driving down Melton Road, I wasn't scared, I was shocked, appalled and frankly astounded by it.

Then again, these inner city areas would be shitholes regardless of the ethnicity of the inhabitants. The asians have just displaced the white trash.

What's she moaning about meeting a few Muslims? I once spotted a black man when I was being carried around Brixton in my sedan chair.

Fortunately it was just one of my servants who'd removed his mandatory burlap head covering because he "couldn't breathe". My cat o' nine tails got a good airing that night and I could sleep soundly again knowing all the immigrants in my general vicinity were safely under key in my dungeon.

lol lol lol

Well played.

If she loves the country she was born in so much why does she live in Scotland? huh? huh?

For the free prescriptions?

Meh, it's rare that anyone weighs in against multiculturalism with a well reasoned argument and this is no exception.

That said, there certainly is a sense of segregation in many highly multicultural areas, for example, particularly relevant to me are the clustering of Asian minorities, particularly Urdu-speaking Pakistanis, in Greater Manchester and the eastern European communities in the centre of Hull. More does need to done on all sides of the argument to properly integrate people into our country if we are to continue to open our borders to immigrants, as any healthy country should.

The immigrants who come here to work do intergrate themselves.

It's the imported poverty (like in Leicester City) that live in the shitty isolated ghettos.

The only reason 'we' (Labour government) opened our borders was to gain thousands of more Labour voters.

Thanks for bolstering my argument.

Not heard about the men not being allowed to speak with other women. Would make it difficult for shopkeepers.

I did a corse last year and the tutor was a muslim woman. She said she would not shake the hand of a man that was not her husband. She said this before the class started soas not to embarrass anyone that held a hand out. She said it was part of the culture she was raised in. Not sure if she actually agreed with it but just accepted it. There were no cries of you poor oppressed woaman from the rest in the room.

She is lucky she didnt take a wrong turn and end up in Braunstone. Not only would it of scared her it would of probably confused the crap out of her too...

But she couldnt possibly write about WHITE people who scared her... we are supposedly all charming and go to country fairs drinking tea and eating pork pies with Stilton cheese beside it...

So basically she is an upper classed woman who has visited our county and has found that the affluent ares dominated by rich upper classed people are very nice and the area full of working class is horrible. Well there's a surprise.

She had made her decision on the area before she got out the car and I'm sure her body language would have screamed this no wonder people were indifferent to her. I feel sorry for the shop keeper who had to sell her the map.

Reminds me of someone else, oh shit we've just elected him to control policing.

Wow - there is a limitless depth to your ignorance.

Edit: On the off-chance, is your mum a large lady likes cooking trying to sell a new book?

It's hardly surprising that Muslims were unfriendly towards her, in the Islamic faith she would be seen as unclean.

Obviously a very bigoted and out-of-touch old right-winger, nicely sheltered from the fuzzy-wuzzies in her Scottish country pile.

So in short, she describes a large part of Leicester as having a huge and deeply conservative Pakistani muslim populace who are by and large very poor and very VERY segregated. I fail to see what was so offensive? Isn't this common knowledge to all of us who live here? Why is the racism card being thrown around everywhere? It just takes a rather blunt opinion (which we all have on a variety of things) and turns it into something completely unhelpful and damaging to the city.

In my experience most new visitors to Leicester comment on exactly the same thing anyway, though without the sensationalism that she wrote it. It's not exactly something thats ever going to stop happening. :dunno:

To be fair the Asian part of every city is a shithole. I'm not old enough to know whether these places were like that before the Asians moved in or because they did.
