MooseBreath Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 Early January, always a pretty shitty time of year, good to have some things to look forward to in the short/medium term. What good things do you have on the horizon, be it a planned holiday, attending some event, moving into a new house, buying a new car etc.? Myself, I have a stag weekend to attend in Amsterdam in mid-feb. In march I want a new car. And over easter I'm going to take a week in somewhere like turkey or Egypt. Also should be getting a half decent pay rise in March which might allow me to look for a better place to live in the spring. What are you looking forward to?
Jimothy Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 I need to find something to look forward to actually. I was thinking the other day 2013 is going to struggle to match 2012. I got a new job, new car, new place in 2012. I was also best man at my mates wedding, and had all the stag do sort and enjoy. I also turned 30. Add to that there was the Olympics, the Jubilee, and Euro 2012, then 2012 was pretty good. Need to at least have a good holiday I think.
rico Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 Magaluf for 5 days in April with 17 lads on a stag do
Rincewind Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 Nothing as exotic as Moosebreath but hoping to be offered a part time media role and looking forward to early retirement (officially) in July if I do not find an alternative.
Finnegan Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 Nothing too short term but hopefully doing Taiwan and Fukuoka in November if I can sort my money out in time. Also hoping to move to a modern flat from my disgusting 3 bed semi with my flatmate. Some tidy 2 beds at the bottom of Narborough Road.
kyleolly Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 Started a new job last week so looking forward to a nice trip to Sunderland tomorrow and by the end of the month me and the family should be moved in to our new 3 bedroom mansion.
purpleronnie Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 I'm just surprised that moosebreath is looking forward to visiting Amsterdam.
Alexikokopops Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 I'm off to Ukraine in February (to watch Metalist Kharkiv vs. Newcastle with a Geordie mate) so I'm looking forwar to visiting Pripyat. I've always ha a strange fascination with the ace so that should be good. Also, the Ashes are coming up an I'm also planning to head to Australia to watch the series out there as well. If I pull my finger out I might try and travel around South America afterwards, finishing in Brazil for the World Cup.
James. Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 Massive year this one. Stag do in Lisbon in April, getting married in May, honeymoon in Colombia and then a big Glasto blow out to round things off.
Guest Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 tomorrow. Every day is a good one if you make it so.
Guest Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 We're having beans on toast for tea next Thursday. Heinz?
Zingari Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 I don’t really look forward to much anymore. Getting news cars and stuff and the novelty wears off pretty quick, holidays don’t seem as exciting as they once did etc . I think I’ve already wished too much of my life away and try to enjoy the day I’m in. In fact the grandkids seem to be growing up all too quick and I want to hold back time In saying all that though, if Susanna Reid promised me a shag tomorrow I’d probably look forward to it Other than that I’m looking forward to the mighty foxes winning the FA cup and championship double
Raj Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 The birth of my second little one in April....and not getting a nights sleep for the next 3 years!!
leicsmac Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 Hopefully finding a decent job to do with space here this year once the Masters is done. Either that or head back to Korea. Edit: And my second free flight as part of my course.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 A lull in the seemingly insatiable demand for parcel delivery.
Saxondale Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 I'm looking forward to visiting Pripyat. Jealous - I fancy that.

leicsmac Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 A Masters might not be enough in the present climate, you may have to consider a PhD. That's also a possibility, If I can find something to absolutely devote three years of my life day in day out to. Hopefully the Masters will be enough to get on a grad program with a company, but if not it's definitely another option.

I've had a lot of contact with CNES, ESA and Airbus over the years and the job climate seems pretty tough at the moment. What is your specialization?
leicsmac Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 I've had a lot of contact with CNES, ESA and Airbus over the years and the job climate seems pretty tough at the moment. What is your specialization? Space Engineering, specifically Mission Analysis. I've disregarded ESA because as you say the job climate and requirements for that work are immensely tough. Looking at the grad programs for companies like Astrium and Vega right now.
Guest Posted 6 January 2013 Posted 6 January 2013 Well Astrium is part of EADS and jobs are hard to come by there at the moment. You'll need an outstanding resumé - who is your masters with? Vega doesn't ring any bells though I'm sure it should.

Vega doesn't ring any bells though I'm sure it should. Currently studying my Masters at Cranfield University - got a good reputation in the aerospace industry so I'm hopeful. Just have to keep plugging. The company name is in fact Telespazio Vega - they do pretty much anything to do with satellites.
