Bobcat Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 raise it to same price as euromillions but have a tiny % of the jackpot? No ta.
Daggers Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 First thing I thought of but my point was the chances of winning are huge. They aren't you know, the probability is very low.
Rincewind Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 Correction the odds are huge which makes the chances low
Wortho Posted 17 January 2013 Posted 17 January 2013 I think that if someone spends £10 per week they will carry on spending the same amount. I can't see many doubling their stake.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 I have a punt of the lottery and Euromillions every now and again when the mood fits and I can actually remember to buy some from a shop or do it online. I probably don't spend more than £100 per year on it, I don't do any other gambling, I don't have any debts, I can easily afford it and the dream of your numbers coming up is a nice one - even though you realise it's unlikely.
ousefox Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 don't know if this has been mentioned, but how lucky can someone be in their life!? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2261662/Premier-League-footballer-wins-National-Lottery.html
whoareyaaa Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Ive had the same numbers since it started, I don't have no choice but to put it on... came close so many times next door on the lot once, never had more than 4 though.
whoareyaaa Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 It's all about the Euromillions and the Irish Lottery so far as I'm concerned. Which reminds me, I have an Irish ticket to check. Even the irish has gone to pot, there is a draw everyday now which is ****in shit if you stick to the same 2/3 numbers.
Parafox Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Gonna make it harder for the great unwashed of society to make a choice between lottery or food...
Guest Posted 19 January 2013 Posted 19 January 2013 Don't see the need to increase the price. If people wanted to spen,d twice as much they would - by twice twice as many tickets and getting twice as many chances to win. Still 2*0 is still 0
Rincewind Posted 19 January 2013 Posted 19 January 2013 I can see the sales going down. There are a lot of OAP who would have a £1 but not £2. There will be a lot of people dropping out of syndicates too. Maybe sales are going down and they are trying to make up for the losses. In my opinion there are too many. I was happy to do the Saturday one and even had an extra go mid week but it's too much every day. Then there are all the scratch cards. If playing them all it could be over £20 a week That's over a £1000 a year for a return of maybe a couple of £10's.

And now you have all these bingo sites and the like being pushed down people's throats. I expect there will also be many more gambling addicts in England of all ages.
ADK Posted 19 January 2013 Posted 19 January 2013 I remember we used to buy 1 ticket a week when it first came out. But back then there were alot of people playing, the draw was once a week and the jackpots were pretty big. Its always been crap value in terms of expected gain but the lottery gave you a chance of a level of wealth that you might not otherwise achieve, therefore there was an incentive to play. Mind you they probably make their money from the braindead who spend all their child allowance on lottery numbers.

But then again the rich four by four townies don't need to spend their child allowance on their kids so they can spend it on the lottery if they want. It's probably a thrill for them.
SystonFox Posted 20 January 2013 Posted 20 January 2013 don't know if this has been mentioned, but how lucky can someone be in their life!? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2261662/Premier-League-footballer-wins-National-Lottery.html Lucky? Yes ofcourse to win it is. But to a prem footballer £125k could be one weeks wages or four weeks wages so in the grand scheme of things its not a great deal really. Just a nice little bonus. Obviously the gossip is more thrilling than winning that ammount. Theo Walcott effectively won the lottery this week with a guaranteed £100k pw and £3m signing on fee
Rincewind Posted 20 January 2013 Posted 20 January 2013 I bet he didn't just put a pound on. Although the chances of winning are probably the same. Even winning the jackpot would not affect his life. He would have plenty of money in the bank earning a high interest so could accumilate a few million in a few years. We also do not know what he has done with the winnings. Given to a charity?
Filbert_Ross Posted 31 January 2013 Posted 31 January 2013 Since this annoucement of the increase which will take my lottery direct debit to about £58 a month when it kicks in, I've won £10 on all 3 draws since on the same line. Feel like its dangling a carrot in front of me so I carry on when the cost doubles.
Rincewind Posted 3 February 2013 Posted 3 February 2013 Have to smile at the ads for the Health Lottery. They mention that it is still £1. Maybe twe'll see a mass switchover to other lotteries?
separator Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Just a heads up for anyone that does the lottery, from this saturday 5th october it goes up to £2 per line. 3 numbers wins £25, I play by direct debit, 3 lines on a saturday, but have reduced it to just the 1 from the weekend. Never win anything anyway. http://www.national-lottery.co.uk/player/p/help/lotterydrawgames/lotto_whatis.ftl
Webbo Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 That'll be the last time I play the Lotto. I'll carry on playing Thunderball until that goes up as well.
separator Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 If you pay by direct debit and you haven't agreed to the new T&C's then your DD will be cancelled I believe. They were emailing about this a few months ago.
