Why are our fans complete idiots

Recommended Posts

Everybody is going so overboard about the Konch situation. You look at his tweets and he always credits the support (as you'd expect) and then he admitted that he was wrong to criticise the fans. I have the utmost respect for him as a pro.

If fans can't take our team losing a game then don't bother going. Idiots. It's a game of football. There's two teams on the pitch. Only one team can win. We can't win every game. All this 'I spent a tenner, you should have played better'. Complete morons. Do you go to the cinema, watch a shit film, and then go up to the cinema staff and booooo cuz you wasted money watching a shit film. Dicks

Poor analogy. If I paid my hard earned money to go see a film and the likes of wellens , Vardy and Gallager turned up in the cast, then too fvcking right I would want my money back.

your the dickhead for clapping that complete load of shit from last noight get some bollocks and show your true feelings to that. perfomance if your happy to see that go and support coventry fc

I was trying to balance out what I thought was an overreaction from other people. Surely that's having more bollocks than doing what everyone else around me was doing and booing because they didn't get what they want. If you only go to games expecting a win and a world-beating performance then you're deluded and should probably follow Barcelona

  • 2 weeks later...

Lost a couple of games in August, then won 7 out of 9

Lost a couple of games at the beginning of Nov, then knocked 10 past Ipswich & Derby

Lost a couple of games at Christmas then won 5 in a row in January.

Each time the chips are down the manager & team has responded

Can we do it again? Of course we can!

Doing it again would be a whole lot easier with more fans on side through the difficult period though, this wanting wholesale changes all the sodding time is what we've done for many years, so if we continue to do it we'll get the same results - That's why I think our fans are idiots.

If we don't change then nothing will change.

So we need to change by for once holding firm, pulling together & helping the team to continual improvement and not creating a toxic atmosphere as soon as a pass goes astray, the kind of atmosphere that makes more passes go astray.

I think we'll see that tonight.

Blackburn are draw specialists and the atmosphere the fans create will no doubt cause more snatched shots and hurried passes that will lead to the very result the fans don't want. The fans are idiots.

I agree fans need to be more positive but is this not present for all clubs? The only teams I know who don't moan as much are Man United, but then you wouldn't if you came from behind on such a regular basis and won so many trophies.

Konchesky has a point, and I'm not going to say he shouldn't have the right to express his opinion/frustration if he wants to.

If I were him, however, I'd have probably kept quiet about it, but still, that's up to him. In a strange kind of way, I suppose it at least shows engagement and a certain level of passion. A player that really didn't give a shit about his professional life probably wouldn't post things about it on twitter.

As for the fans: a big change is down to prices. Most of the people who boo the players wouldn't boo a rubbish Sunday league team off if they'd been there to watch a family member/mate. As soon as you charge people for entry you create an obvious expectation of receiving entertainment in the mind of the spectator: all that's happened is that as prices have gone up, expectation has too and fans are more likely now to express their dissatisfaction.

Another point is down to the mandatory introduction of seating. This has had a number of consequences that dilute atmosphere: large groups cannot stand together, people on the old terraces were more likely to arrive earlier as they didn't have a guaranteed seat, etc, etc.

However, making people sit down during the game has had an important psychological effect: more and more, newer fans without experience of the old grounds are equating the act of watching live football with things like going to the cinema, theatre, etc. where the people watching have a purely passive role in the production of the 'spectacle'.

Turning fans into people who turn up to 'watch the game' rather than supporters in the classic sense means more fans than ever feel they have no agency in affecting events on the pitch. And it's not hard to imagine that people who feel passive are less likely to sing during the game; equally, it's not hard to imagine why someone who feels non-involved in a dreadful performance is more likely to boo.
