davieG Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 I've never really felt it was particularly supportive of the team, all those that complain of libraries and quiet 'supporters' who then go out and sing this stuff are hardly being any more supportive as I'm sure the players can hear the words. But then I'm not a player maybe they find 'We'll shit on your mums' inspires them to greater things.
marbelladave Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 I don't see how calling a Ref a willy puller because he has done something you don't like is pantomime banter, especially in the tone it has been said. To me that is hypocrisy. Football grounds are always filled with this kind of chant, Leicester fans sing about people from Coventry fingering their own Nan, thats just whats sung, it will continue to happen. Liverpool fans sing about John Terry's Mum loving Scouse cock. Man United fans sing about Scousers getting a job.. That's Football. So you can't tell the difference then. Fair enough....... Well, is it just racist abuse that crosses the line? Sexist? Homophobic? Direct threats (you're going home in an ambulance etc.)? All of these things are illegal. What about taking the piss out of tragedies? Munich? Hillsborough? Clough? It really isn't as black and white as racist bad anything else good. Good post. I'll just add that banter is not meant to be taken seriously, abuse is something else, as so often it is the intent that makes the difference. Some people still can't tell the difference though....... Its endemic of the state of this country in general. It is generally sang by the same people (idiots) who think it is funny (acceptable) to kick the crap out of a bus shelter/phone box, the same ones who will let their kid terrorise an entire estate, beat up old folk for £1, destroy war memorials after remembrance Sunday. Its a sad state of affairs due to years of no discipline and little respect or pride instilled into people, thanks in the main to many years do-gooding. Its not just football its all over. Also it seems that calling fat people is acceptable while racism or homophobia is not? Going well till the last couple of lines..... As I said above, abuse is about intent. Calling someone fat with 'intent' is not acceptable, describing someone as fat in another context may simply be stating a fact........
davelcfc100 Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 At the Blackpool game, repeatedly, incessantly..... "We'll sh*t on your mum" or "We'll smash up your town" Grown men? Lots of them.....WTF.... Come on?! its great
flowwolf Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 Part and parcel of football, i'm afraid!!!! Some people call it banter, but where do you draw the line????????? Just under the kneck where the Stanley knife is going to go ?
hifi Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 Abusive chants are a big part of football and add to the thrill and atmosphere.i can remember the abuse mark McGhee (now theres going back)got when he left us and the chants had 'pies and dies'in it. I'm sorry I thought it was funny. There's no harm done just BANTER. I wonder if most of the fans that are a bit offended by the chanting are old or family fans. I can only imaging someone going to a home match on here venting there disgust of the fans chanting in the kop end.

Bilo Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 We'll shit on your mums is so terrible it's brilliant! Some of the best and funniest chants I've ever heard have been, to say the least, a bit edgy. There are limits, racist chants and chants about tragedies like Munich and Hillsborough are clearly beyond the pale, but they're pretty loose. I can't imagine anyone being seriously offended by that song.
RowlattsFox Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 Problem is, once is relatively funny but after the 6th or 7th time the song lose's its humour and becomes annoying.

Voll Blau Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 The first consideration should be whether it's funny. "We'll shit on your mum" is just ridiculous. If only folks took as much time learning traditional Leicester songs as they did creaming themselves over 95% shite "banter" with other supporters we'd be one of the best sets of fans in this country. C-man Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 Anyone unable to tell the difference between the witty (part of football but at the same time abusive) chants such as 'He's not your real dad!' and to a lesser extent 'Daddy's boy!' and the not particularly abusive but offensive to my ears and completely not part of football 'We'll shit on your mums' needs to sort themselves out. 'You'll get your fvcking heads kicked in as you walk down Filbert Street' - threatening, but traditional and football related = 'part of football' 'We'll smash up your town' - threatening, completely pathetic and almost certainly bullshit = not 'part of football' On a more serious note, I heard racist abuse aimed at Thomas Ince and Wes Morgan from the Leicester end on Saturday. Not sure who it was, but there was a group of utter ****** about 5 rows behind me where one guy first called Ince the N-word after about 75 minutes. I'm sure some retard from the same group then called Morgan an ape, told him to get forward, and remarked to his mate he'd be up there if there was a banana tree. I spoke to a Copper, who wasn't in a particularly helpful mood, after the game but he said he couldn't do anything unless I could pinpoint who it was. By this point the group had left. Completely ruined the game for me. Never thought I'd hear Leicester fans spouting racial diatribe at a game. Shameful.

True. Take off your hat, Take off your haaaaaat, This isn't rugby, Take off your hat. Not abusive but very funny. I think that where chants are referring to stuff going on on the pitch, at the players etc then it's fair game, but "We'll smash up your town" is just making yourself look like a mindless chav. I love all the Coventry slums stuff but its probably as far as I'd go.

I'm usually no fan of grassing people up, but it's shocking nobody reported them at the time. Someone must have seen who it was. Vacamion Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 I hate it when people sing stuff about Brian Clough being dead to Nigel Clough. It's not clever, it's old news, wrapped in a lack of humanity, swathed in a lack of knowledge about the game.
Bayfox Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 ♫ Rob Green you let your country down, Rob Green you let your country down ♫ This was tongue in cheek. Maybe the prolonged singing of it was a bit much. It clearly got to him as well. Which you could say it was helping us gain an advantage. His reaction wound me up in my drunken state and pelts obviously felt the same at the time but in hindsight he probably had good reason. We'll shit on your mums. Has no place, nothing to do with football and unless we all intend to start making shit pornos i just don't get it.
C.J Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 Blackpool away was probably one of the best away atmospheres i've experienced. Yes the 'we'll sh*t on your mum' chant was abit random, but i thought it was hillarious. 'He's not your real dad' to Tom Ince was a good one. Its just harmless banter, lighten up! Finnegan Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 That was so stupid that I actually thought it was brilliant. Didn't even fit the tune FFS! One of my favourite chants of all time. I like to think of some slightly slow, very drunk character just coming out with it out of the blue. It really made my afternoon, I was giggling for ages inbetween singing it. That was a good day out, really, despite the score. And I'm aware it's not abusive, it's just an absurd and slightly silly chant. Exactly my favourite. Stuff like that and "Barry Hayles is bigger than this" always crack me up, even if only about two people sing them.

Langley Posted 25 February 2013 Share Posted 25 February 2013 I think the only time that I've felt ashamed was down Bristol City last season and the abuse that some of the fans gave David James. Some of that was horrible. However, 99% of the chants we sing, IMO are acceptable. Most are hilarious. "Your sister's your mother..." "Coventry Slums" "Sheep Shaggers" are all hilarious.
