kingfox Posted 4 March 2013 Posted 4 March 2013 On Sky breaking news, it says Leicestershire County Council have confirmed that they have found Horsemeat in minced beef served in School Dinners, product has been removed from all schools. Even though people have said it won't be harmful, this is not very good, poor poor kids. Thoughts?
Danizen Posted 4 March 2013 Posted 4 March 2013 There's probably more than horse meat in there judging by some of the creatures who were at my school.
Webbo Posted 4 March 2013 Posted 4 March 2013 I really think that this horsemeat scandal is over done. It's a news story by the fact that something was sold under false pretences but no one's health has suffered and nobody could tell the difference. It's not headline news.

I kind of agree, people have it abroad, but as it's rarely over here and basically shouldn't be used, everyone is going mad over it. But if anyone has any kids on this forum, then they can share there thoughts in this thread
Captain... Posted 4 March 2013 Posted 4 March 2013 Don't care that some kids have eaten a bit of horse, it is quite tasty. I do care that schools are sourcing dinners from meat suppliers that don't know what is going into their produce, even more so if that supplier was chosen because it was dirt cheap and due to budgetary constraints, and to be honest horse is one of the more pleasant "surprise" ingredients in processed meat.
Finnegan Posted 4 March 2013 Posted 4 March 2013 I love that this is basically the same story.milked in every possible way. I mean, horse got its way in to the beef - fair play, that's the story. But now it's getting rehashed infinitely. Horse meat in schools! Horse meat in hospitals, prisons, on planes, you name it. If we previously ate beef there we can now have a story about eating horse there. Awesome. Bring it on, I love horse. Om nom nom nom!
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 4 March 2013 Posted 4 March 2013 This is an absolute shocker. Who'd have thought in any way possible that schools were serving cheap meat?... Like Finners (Crispy Pancakes) said, it's the same bloody story. In fact I'm actually surprised they didn't put this "spin" on it earlier. Schools and hospitals famously have dire budgets for meals, I'm amazed there's any meat in the meals. Kids don't care - some of them might be a little upset for a bit (if they find out) but it'll toughen them up in the long run. What's the difference between eating horse, and eating cow?
MooseBreath Posted 4 March 2013 Posted 4 March 2013 No surprise. If it got into Tesco, then it's probably quite common in catering wholesalers that sell to schools, work canteens, restaurants etc. If horsemeat is cheaper than beef but just as tasty then the supermarkets should just start openly selling the stuff. I'd be more than happy to give it a go and if the price is right I'll keep buying it. Bit of horse, topped with horseradish with a side of radishes. Lovely.

Well you can't get mad horse disease to start with.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 4 March 2013 Posted 4 March 2013 Well you can't get mad horse disease to start with. I'll have a 2lb horse rump steak then please. Would horse make good bacon? Racing bacon. How about minced horse baked potato. Jockey potato. But I've just eaten lunch. Think I'll have a sugar cube instead.
Zingari Posted 4 March 2013 Posted 4 March 2013 They could have a lot of fun renaming stuff . How about spaghetti bollyneighs with mascapony cheese ? edit; that would be the mane course , how about dessert orchid for afters?
Zingari Posted 4 March 2013 Posted 4 March 2013 wholemeal thorough bread and and a rapstallion side dish ?
Alf Bentley Posted 4 March 2013 Posted 4 March 2013 It was only discovered because someone got a bit between their teeth. I don't want to stirrup trouble as I bridle at the blame culture, but really the council has got to be saddled with the responsibility for this. They should have reined their suppliers in earlier. It was a case of slamming the stable door after the horse had been bolted. They really should take their blinkers off as they have had a 'mare!
Mike Oxlong Posted 4 March 2013 Posted 4 March 2013 On the plus side at least our kids should perform well in the inter-county schools hurdles.

You worked hard there sir go and have a nap edit; are you trying to get the record for most puns in a post ?

Agreed....must be a slow news day.
Haydos Posted 4 March 2013 Posted 4 March 2013 I can't even put into words how little I care about this horse meat non-story. Why are they still milking it? It's not even news any more. I understand that it's worrying for certain food agencies but do any of the public actually care?
