RobHawk Posted 3 April 2013 Posted 3 April 2013 Established middle class! Not really surprising - although it would have been alot different 5 or 6 years ago.
Finnegan Posted 3 April 2013 Posted 3 April 2013 Emergent Service Worker. Uh...? I'm culturally and socially rich... but skint.
Zingari Posted 3 April 2013 Posted 3 April 2013 Precariat, or precarious proletariat !! Why do they have to give us a class name we can't even understand ?
Finnegan Posted 3 April 2013 Posted 3 April 2013 Precariat, or precarious proletariat !! Why do they have to give us a class name we can't even understand ? To keep you down! Note how you can't mistake the meaning of elite!
davieG Posted 3 April 2013 Author Posted 3 April 2013 It's a bit of a silly poll/measure any way far too much of it is based on who you know. Therefore I think the main reason i come out as Traditional working class is because I'm now retired and most of my socialising is with my family and footy going friends. If I'd have filled it in a year ago I'm sure the result would have been quite different as I used to socialise more with work colleagues Not that I'm bothered by the classification happy to be Working class.
Finnegan Posted 3 April 2013 Posted 3 April 2013 I think who you socialize with is relevant to a degree, class is as much a cultural distinction as it is an economic one.
Alexikokopops Posted 3 April 2013 Posted 3 April 2013 Elite... I'm currently buying a house (I say currently, I'm at the looking stage and know how much I can borrow) and if that goes through then I'm catapulted directly from Emergent Service Workers to Established Middle Class!

ESW five! \o (until you buy a house, then you're bourgeois scum.)
davieG Posted 3 April 2013 Author Posted 3 April 2013 I think who you socialize with is relevant to a degree, class is as much a cultural distinction as it is an economic one. I'm sure it is but it's dictated a lot by your circumstances, I don't see why your class should change significantly because you retire, I'm still the same person with the same thoughts, same political views, same interests and outlook on life. It's almost saying that because I now spend more time with my family than with transient work colleagues that my 'class' has changed.
Alexikokopops Posted 3 April 2013 Posted 3 April 2013 ESW five! \o (until you buy a house, then you're bourgeois scum.) I've done it again - I removed "Go to the theatre" (because thinking about it I don't do it that much) and artist (my cousin) from the socialising bit and I'm now Technical Middle Class

Guest Posted 3 April 2013 Posted 3 April 2013 Established middle class Surprised me too. Established middle class for me too. Which is clearly nonsense.
Captain... Posted 3 April 2013 Posted 3 April 2013 People always go on about a lack of social mobility in the UK, but it is easy, just listen to more Jazz and go to the theatre, you shoot up the social ladder.
MooseBreath Posted 3 April 2013 Posted 3 April 2013 Emergent service worker according to the BBC calculator. Those classes are nonsense though.
danny. Posted 3 April 2013 Posted 3 April 2013 I'm elite according to that!? But my other half is technical middle class - random!
