Mark_w Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 Don't ever compare Adolf Hitler to Margaret Thatcher ever again He didn't compare them. He's just pointing out that you can judge someone without having lived at the same time as them.
BoneDog Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 DAFUQ?! I was just eggs-agerating on the tensions between the left and the right today!
Tempwan Yierban Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 Shouting about "Party packs" and "ding dong the witch is dead" shows a lack of class and to those who have done, shame on you, you should take a lesson from the leader of the Labour Party. You do realise that was just a Hefner song that very specifically came to mind?
FoxesAreBlue Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 I'm far to young to remember and far to uninterested to form an opinion, however in my house , the old dear and her partner are on two complete different sides of the fence. One loved her, the other thinks that she was the devil in disguise and I'm slightly surprised that he's not letting fireworks off in the garden. This may bring about WW3!
vandamman Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 I hate the internet, some bint on my facebook probably never even heard of MT before today raging on about how she killed the country. I only really have my dad to go by on Thatcher and he has always supported a state funeral for her, and I have to say I probably agree. Politics is a male dominated world now, cant help but admire how she came to prominence back then. Clearly a courageous and intelligent person, very sad to see these people celebrating the death of a great Brit.
Zingari Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 are you sure you're not just drying out all your pussy pelmets ?
Manwell Pablo Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 He didn't compare them. He's just pointing out that you can judge someone without having lived at the same time as them. He is comparing them, of course he is, and he is wrong to do so. It is possible to judge a dictator who killed millions, yes. To judge someone who for better or worse attempted to do what was best for this country when they had no effect on them, and was elected three times by the British public. No. Totally different. EDIT: Judge is perhaps the wrong word. I don't agree with going out and getting pissed celebrating her death when she had no direct effect on you is what I am getting at
The Doctor Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 Looks like a riot! You guys sure know how to party It's early hours boy, besides, I don't want it to kick off until about half eleven when I'm back out of the studio and able to join in. *insert subtle radio plug here - www.ramair.co.uk *
Haydos Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 We now have bunting! A pub full of under 25's 'celebrating' her death? Jesus that's cringeworthy.

You hate someone for judging Thatcher even though they weren't around at the time... despite the fact that you're doing the exact same thing?

Won't play on my iPad. What sort of stuff do you play mate?
Manwell Pablo Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 You hate someone for judging Thatcher even though they weren't around at the time... despite the fact that you're doing the exact same thing? Mark you've already admitted you know nothing about Margaret Thatcher, so I'm puzzled as to why your in here picking other peoples arguements apart. By the way it's April and Jermaine Beckford had more goals at this stage in the season than Vardy and Waghorn put together, in fewer performances than the two put together.

It will make my day!

Beck ford is a much better forward. The question is why has Vardy not been shipped out? Does no one want him? Or is he just managing not to upset NP (very rare ability) I want a shout out too but it's important you enunciate my name correctly.

Read up on some of the issues, I suggest Curise Missiles and a tactical nuclear war in Europe for a start and can posters pls stop claiming that there is still a Labour Party as that us the one thing she killed dead
Tempwan Yierban Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 Play the hefner song mate. the day that thatcher dies.

To be honest I'm probably wrong he ended up with nine at the end of the season.... It'll keep him busy for a bit while he shuffles off to check it all on whatever stats website he uses though.
Mark_w Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 Mark you've already admitted you know nothing about Margaret Thatcher, so I'm puzzled as to why your in here picking other peoples arguements apart. By the way it's April and Jermaine Beckford had more goals at this stage in the season than Vardy and Waghorn put together, in fewer performances than the two put together. I'm not saying I know nothing about her, I know that my parents who weren't particularly affected by her policies despise her, I know that she her government had a role to play in events such as Hillsborough and covering them up. I disagree with someone condeming someone for doing the exact same thing they are. Or in your case suggesting someone is comparing Hitler to Thatcher without reading (or at least understanding) the conversation they were having. It would have had the same effect if he'd asked what Webbo thought of Martin Luther King, we can judge these people without having lived through the time period because we have enough information about them and evidence of the actions they took. We know that MLK was a great man, we know that Hitler was a vile human being and we can see that Thatcher must have done something wrong to have created the animosity that is clearly shown to her by a significant proportion of people who actually were around at the time. Saying that we can judge those people based on the information we have is not the same as comparing any of them. Vardy and Waghorn have barely played since we last had this discussion. That makes it sort of difficult to judge don't you think?

Guest Bilo Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 He is comparing them, of course he is, and he is wrong to do so. It is possible to judge a dictator who killed millions, yes. EDIT: Judge is perhaps the wrong word. I don't agree with going out and getting pissed celebrating her death when she had no direct effect on you is what I am getting at Woah there, I'll speak for myself thanks. I was, as Mark W clearly says, posing a rhetorical question to make Webbo think about why his argument was flawed. It is clearly true that you don't have to live through somebody's time of influence to criticise them. If that was a valid argument, History lessons at school would become pretty fvcking irrelevant would they not? I'm sure the majority of us on here admire Winston Churchill despite none of us being born or indeed most of our parents. The reason we do so is because Churchill's legacy is well documented, he is part of the reason we're living in a modern democracy today rather than a dictatorship. Thatcher's legacy, for better or worse, is perhaps just as evident today and has impacted upon the generation born after her resignation in 1990. Her policies have therefore had an impact on 90s born kids, they are affected by her and are within rights to form an opinion. Anybody with even a rudimentary understanding of modern British history will be able to form an opinion on her tenure. I was only 6 when she left Downing Street but still know enough about her to form a reasonably articulate opinion. I'm merely making the point that telling somebody born in 1993 that they should keep quiet about Thatcher because they weren't born during her tenure is every bit as daft as telling somebody born in 1948 they have no right to judge Hitler. It's a non-argument.
Daggers Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 I was posing a rhetorical question to make Webbo think about why his argument was flawed. Good luck with that one, Tories aren't reknown for their cognitive abilities.
Webbo Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 I know Hitler was a bad person but I don't go into an artificial rage about him. When Mrs T stopped being PM before you were born don't you think it's a bit fake?
