Thatcher Dies

To be honest I'm probably wrong he ended up with nine at the end of the season....

It'll keep him busy for a bit while he shuffles off to check it all on whatever stats website he uses though.

It's better than talking out of your arse 24/7.

I know Hitler was a bad person but I don't go into an artificial rage about him. When Mrs T stopped being PM before you were born don't you think it's a bit fake?

I wouldn't say so - she may not have personally been in power at the time, but her political legacy is still going strong with Blair and now Cameron, if naziism was still at that sort of level in modern europe I dare say hating Hitler would be understandable.

I'm not saying I know nothing about her, I know that my parents who weren't particularly affected by her policies despise her, I know that she her government had a role to play in events such as Hillsborough and covering them up. I disagree with someone condeming someone for doing the exact same thing they are. Or in your case suggesting someone is comparing Hitler to Thatcher without reading (or at least understanding) the conversation they were having. It would have had the same effect if he'd asked what Webbo thought of Martin Luther King, we can judge these people without having lived through the time period because we have enough information about them and evidence of the actions they took. We know that MLK was a great man, we know that Hitler was a vile human being and we can see that Thatcher must have done something wrong to have created the animosity that is clearly shown to her by a significant proportion of people who actually were around at the time. Saying that we can judge those people based on the information we have is not the same as comparing any of them.

Vardy and Waghorn have barely played since we last had this discussion. That makes it sort of difficult to judge don't you think?

I've read and understood entirely and have already answered that in previous post.

I think you'll find opinion on her as about as split as it gets, some love her, some hate her, you on the other hand have no idea what your talking about, no background knowledge about her role Hillsborough incident, and to be honest even with this new "investigation" the Liverpool fans who turned up late. pissed, and without a ticket, making policing the situation a nightmare, are still or not entirely innocent if you ask me.

Well I told you they wouldn't but you seemed so confident they would and that they'd get 8 goals each......guess even your wrong sometimes eh.

I loathed the woman's politics and the way she created a greedy 'look after yourself, I'm all right jack society" but I will not celebrate her death. She made some terrible decisions and had some awful policies, sold the silver and destroyed industry but it doesn't matter as the rich remained rich, you don't have to look far to see where our current Tories get there policies from but remember we are all in it together.

I do feel slightly uncomfortable with the notion of people celebrating her death if they weren't directly affected by her policies, such as ex-miners and Hillsborough families for example, but how would that be any different to people mourning the death of Nelson Mandela when he goes?

I guarantee there'll be thousands of white liberals RIPing on Facebook and Twitter and holding vigils; but white, middle-class British kids have far less of an idea of apartheid South Africa than they do about the Britain their parents grew up in.

I dare say that if Nazism was still at that sort of level in modern Europe you'd have to choose between speaking out and living. At least we're lucky enough to be able to bitch about Thatcher.

True - however I feel you've rather missed the point.

Woah there, I'll speak for myself thanks.

I was, as Mark W clearly says, posing a rhetorical question to make Webbo think about why his argument was flawed. It is clearly true that you don't have to live through somebody's time of influence to criticise them. If that was a valid argument, History lessons at school would become pretty fvcking irrelevant would they not?

I'm sure the majority of us on here admire Winston Churchill despite none of us being born or indeed most of our parents. The reason we do so is because Churchill's legacy is well documented, he is part of the reason we're living in a modern democracy today rather than a dictatorship.

Thatcher's legacy, for better or worse, is perhaps just as evident today and has impacted upon the generation born after her resignation in 1990. Her policies have therefore had an impact on 90s born kids, they are affected by her and are within rights to form an opinion.

Anybody with even a rudimentary understanding of modern British history will be able to form an opinion on her tenure. I was only 6 when she left Downing Street but still know enough about her to form a reasonably articulate opinion.

I'm merely making the point that telling somebody born in 1993 that they should keep quiet about Thatcher because they weren't born during her tenure is every bit as daft as telling somebody born in 1948 they have no right to judge Hitler. It's a non-argument.

If you've got an informed opinion then yes you can judge.

Unless you lived through her tenure you shouldn't be going out on the slash celebrating her death.

Your Churchill comparison shows, how well informed your opinion is, as I've said already Thatcher and Churchill are politically about as similar as you get, only difference is one is remembered for WWII and one was remembered for closing mines by those who don't know better.

I don't care whether people love or loathe Mrs T. This thread is about what I expected it to be when I heard she was dead. Allow me a little chuckle at the bandwagon jumpers though.

The thing I'll remember about today is the lovely piece of lemon meringue pie I had this evening

Overrated dessert.

Needs crumble on top (did you have a biscuit base?)

Jam role poly.

Artificial rage? lol

Fake emotions because it is about something you liked and struggle to understand why anyone wouldn't, hypocrite?

Brilliant. You really are limited aren't you.

I thought you didn't care what I think?

Nonsense. Anyone who understands what a cvnt she was can celebrate her death. Drink?

Normally I'd agree with you, but this one had a lovely pastry, so it did.

Mind you, I don't get many puds these days so maybe I'm less demanding than I was

I don't give a shit what you think. I'm enjoying laughing at you.

Go on, be abusive again, I love it when you're abusive.

I could, if I could be bothered, give a full analysis of Thatcher's legacy but I was making a simple analogy. As for going out on the lash, you seem to be confusing me with others. It makes me feel uneasy in spite of my distaste towards her policies while in office.

Haha cleared the cookies on my desktop and it turns out that my IP is not banned, only my old username. Sweet.

Desktop action again.

Anyway back to the important issues:

1) Jam Roly Poly (plus custard)

2) Syrup sponge/treacle sponge (plus custard)

3) Something involving honeycomb, perhaps cheesecake.

But nothing beats a cheeseboard and port.

Bored of thatcher. Lets talk dessert.

Doesn't seem like that. Now when are you going to get a job?

THATCHER FOR MANAGER!

That's what we're doing now right? Hiring zombies for managers?

Err zombie isn't very PC mate? I can't believe I'm reading this.

Wish I knew some zombies so I could be all offended on their behalf.
