Can we not do better than Hobbs & Fryatt?

A yes to Hobbs he is better than Whitbread and St Ledger imo, a big Fat no to Fryatt: Nugent/Wood/Schlupp are much better.

I'd like to see us improve on Whitbread or SSL, I'm sure Hobbs is a better player but I still have nightmares about the pairing of him & Morrisson, in particular that first game under Sousa.

As if he is, compare their scoring records in the Championship and have a word with yourself. Fryatt is a much, much better player than Jeff Schlupp. At the minute, Schlupp's got potential and not a lot else.

Fryatt would be a great option off the bench, Jack Hobbs - when fit - is a fantastic defender at this level and Pearson knows how to get the best out of them both.

If we're going to lose Kasper and we're not going to get our full asking price, then we may as well get a couple of good players out of the deal. Fryatt would score at least 10 from the bench, 16 goals last season and then out injured for most of this season, but a good bench striker is exactly what we need, and Hobbs and Morgan would form a great partnership IMO.

If someone offered me Fryatt or Schlupp though at the minute you would be stupid to pick Fryatt

Thought we'd learnt from when Fryatt was here before that he needs a good run to actually look like a striker, he won't be getting that from the bench.

I'm sure we can do better than either of them.

And why's that? A young lad who's never scored more than 3 goals in this league, or a proven Championship striker who can probably bag about 10-12 goals a season off the bench?

I know which one I'd prefer.

What makes you think he can score 10 goals from the bench, I can't see anything in his history to back this up.

I certainly remember him improving the more games he played but I wouldn't want him in our first eleven again.

I agree, much rather see us sign someone like Simeon Jackson who has come off the bench to score goals for Norwich if I remember rightly

My keeper shortlist

transfer fee applies:

Given (Aston Villa)

Steele (Barnsley)

Loach (Ipswich)

Federici (Reading)

Loans:

Butland (Stoke)

Westwood (Sunderland)

Frees:

Camp (Norwich/ Forest)

Turnbull (Chelsea)

I'd take Westwood & Steele but the others are either not good enough or unrealistic. Butland's massively over-rated for me.

Add Fulop to the list of Keepers available on a free... come to the end of his contract...

You ask the top teams who they would prefer lol Fryatt was good for us yes, But now Schlupp beats Fryatt any day of the week. You just go ask Manchester United who they would prefer

Was he intending to carry on playing when he's recovered then?

Well, one of the top two teams in this league already had him this season.

I'm not even saying that Fryatt's that good - just that he's a better championship striker than Schlupp, as his record proves, so no - Schlupp doesn't beat Fryatt every day of the week. Schlupp is massively, massively overrated on here, and for what? A few average performances and less than 10 goals in three seasons? He might have potential, but that's all it is at the minute and quite frankly, a decent player would usually start to show signs of living up to that potential by now.

And as for which would Manchester United prefer, that's a bizarre and ridiculous comparison - the only reason they'd want Schlupp would be because they think he has the potential to be a very good player. They would be taking a gamble on him becoming a lot better than he is now. Still, they've hardly been beating down our door to sign him this summer, have they? Maybe their opinion is that perhaps he's not the real deal.

I want Schlupp to come good, but I just don't see it unfortunately.

Schlupp not realising his potential is no reason for us to sign Fryatt.

It's certainly a reason for us to sign a striker. I like Nugent and Wood as first choice, but what do we have beyond that? Waghorn, Schlupp, Vardy, Futacs... None of them prolific or even that good really. We need a good striker who can come off the bench and I think Fryatt would be a decent, realistic option, especially if part of the Schmeichel deal. The manager's worked with him before, knows how to get the best out of him, and IMO he's better than what we've got in reserve at the minute.

Fryatt has a big injury problem now, yes he did well for us first time but now I would sooner have Schlupp. Who actually has potential

Would you sooner have Wellens over Drinkwater because of his performances for Leicester? Or even Brown over Keane

If we play around 15 friendlies over preseason with Waggy playing them all, come August he'll be raring to go!

I'd take Drinkwater and Keane because they put in consistently good performances and have been very important players in our side - but that's not something Schlupp has ever done. He made his breakthrough under Sven and that was three seasons ago - what's he done since then? More or less nothing. When you compare Andy King's breakthrough into the first team, where he was consistently good from day one, Schlupp just doesn't look that good.

Potential is all well and good, but he's 20 now and he wants to start showing some signs that he's going to get better, because at the minute he's a jack of all trades and a master of none. He can just about do a job in most positions he plays in, but not very well.

Fryatt is average, if we want a back up striker Simeon Jackson is someone that would do the business in this division.

Another good, realistic option.

I see your point but 20 is actually still very young. This may be the season Schlupp looks very good if he plays often in his correct position. You didn't see Andy King break through and then start playing CB as cover

I certainly agree with you on the first part but you've yet to convince me, and others, how Fryatt is good off the bench, his history with us shows the opposite I believe.

Looks like Kasper might get into the starting line up for denmarks next game... they lost 4-0 at home to Armenia yesterday!  lol. He was on the bench.
