davieG Posted 24 May 2013 Author Posted 24 May 2013 Doesn't the £60 cover the cost of wardens, without wardens the whole scheme is pointless because if that was known to be the situation people would just ignore the Resident's Only parking restrictions.
Rocky Dennis Posted 24 May 2013 Posted 24 May 2013 So I'm supposed to just sell my car because I can't afford this £60 fee then? because that's the choice we have. People are also failing to realise this dosnt solve the problem either, it just moves it to somewhere else. I take it the council are going to invest all this money into a car park for our ground then? Nope, they'll invest it into this Jubilee park they are wasting X amount of millions on just to make the queen happy the next time she visits. Admittedly I understand I don't have a right to just assume I can park outside my house when i want, but I'm seriously skeptical about the reasoning's behind it all. Most people I live near in the area understood the roads get busy on match days and just park a couple of streets up instead if they have to. It's an inconvenience, but I'd rather do that than have to pay a yearly tax. You've got it! In the future oxygen may well be taxed?

You mean the wardens who are already in the area? they don't have to employ anybody else to do this job, and they sure as hell arnt going to pay the wardens any more to enforce it

My son used to live in this area so know the problems and we often had to park a street or two away..
yorkie1999 Posted 24 May 2013 Posted 24 May 2013 Can you pay the 60 pounds and claim a parking spot for Saturday football if some people don't want it, certainly a lot cheaper than the rowing club plus you get you're own parking if your mrs wants to go shopping.
indierich06 Posted 24 May 2013 Posted 24 May 2013 I assume you reported these crimes to the Police? No, I'm not a grass. I'm pretty sure parking in front of a lowered kerb is illegal anyway, so if people are prepared to ignore that, park there anyway and block him in, then they get all they deserve IMO.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 24 May 2013 Posted 24 May 2013 I lived in Gloucester while at Uni right near their rugby ground. All the streets surrounding the stadium would be packed on match days. The bloke who lived next door to us was real funny about always parking outside his house and he claimed it was his right to do so, he used to put his bins out to "keep his space" whenever he was out. Anyway a car of Leicester Tigers fans moved his bins to park right outside his house on a Sunday game. He comes back fuming and slashed one of the tyres. Feeling a sense of loyalty to Leicester I told them it was my next door neighbour. To cut a long story short he had a trip to A+E and changed his view on parking down our street. Brilliant!!
rico Posted 24 May 2013 Posted 24 May 2013 i live off Narborough Rd but this parking permit has not been enforced on my road, surely this means there will just be more people trying to find spaces in my area?
separator Posted 24 May 2013 Posted 24 May 2013 When I lived in London, permit parking was restricted to one permit per house and you had to be on the electoral register for that address. This was in Shepherds Bush, not too far from Loftus Road. Not much use if you lived in a shared house. Otherwise it was £1 an hour pay and display. There's always parking on Tudor Road and a 15/20 minute walk down by the river to get to the KP.

It's an inconvenience, but I'd rather do that than have to pay a yearly tax. I haven't really got a lot of love for the council in my area anyway, they tried to fine me once because i didn't have a back garden to put my rubbish bin in because i live in a first floor flat, they told me I'd have to keep either my dustbin or bags of rubbish in my house, which i would have to carry up and down a flight of stairs, until collection day otherwise they'd take me to court. Ridiculous. If you can't afford the £60 how can you afford to run a car-sheer bloody minedness if you ask me!
Guest bss9401 Posted 24 May 2013 Posted 24 May 2013 I lived on Ridley Street for 5 years. I knew the issue when I moved there and couldn't (then) afford a house with a drive. I had no problem with it, just as I had no problem with the extra cars being around when the kids were being picked up from the nearby school. I lived with the inconvenience 10% of the time as I had no problem otherwise. When I wanted more convenience, I moved.
Guest Posted 25 May 2013 Posted 25 May 2013 You should be able to park outside your own home??? I should also be able to park on a road I have paid road tax towards!!! You haven't paid road tax, there's no such thing, you've paid vehicle excise duty. You should be given a space outside your own home for free, that's obvious. For us City fans, however, a proper answer from the council regarding where people CAN park at non-ridiculous rates for the football is needed. Surely a council backed multi-story on a grand scale is required? Brings them income, creates jobs, gives an answer.
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 May 2013 Posted 25 May 2013 I don't know about the West End. What I do know is that the Council are making a bus lane in Glen Parva (Lutterworth Road) for three buses which go down there every so often, at a cost of many English pounds, whilst the roads in the area are in a terrible state. I'm talking potholes you could lose a cycle in! Mistaken priorities again IMO.
Langley Posted 25 May 2013 Posted 25 May 2013 Or maybe, here is a thought, just have a sticker in your car and if you don't display one of those then you'll be slapped with a fine. You don't need to pay £60 for it. I used to live three streets from Wolves ground and that's what they did. No problem with parking and no charge for me parking outside my house.

I pay to tax my car. I pay how much tax filling it up every week. I paid how much in tax buying it. Everywhere at this rate will end up like london. No parking. Costs extra to drive into. Makes trying to work in this country difficult.

Whereas people using your neighbourhood as a car park makes it difficult to live. Where there is more demand for parking spaces than supply clearly one group needs to be given priority. Should it be the transient parkers who are using it because it's free, or should it be the permanent residents who pay just as much car related tax as you and probably more council tax? I'll admit it's a close one and in an ideal world you'd have sufficient parking available for everyone, but when a decision has to be made I think the residents edge it.

I get the point that it's not ideal. I unfortunatly have to live with neighbours blocking my garage. However as it is shared access i can only request they try not too. That or club them round the head. I do not outright own the access. The same as people buying a house without a drive, do not own the road any more or less than we do. You make a choice when buying. I like the fact i am on a pathway as it's safe for the kids to play. If you live in town you again make a choice it's once a fortnight you have a few people park outside. The football team has been around for a few years now so it's hardly a new problem.

Because some of us have to keep to a budget, we arnt all rich. What a ridiculous thing to say.
chop58 Posted 12 December 2013 Posted 12 December 2013 the residential parking scheme around the western rd (zone F) area officially starts 16/12/13, only warnings will be issued until 06/01/14.
Mapperleyfox Posted 12 December 2013 Posted 12 December 2013 So as a non Leicester resident where's the best place for matchday street parking now? Used to park off Narborough rd but obviously need an alternative now. Are the streets off Aylestone Rd near the british gas/clocktower ok?

You can use the tigers car park(the shit stand car park) for only £3,alternatively you can park on the leicester collage car park(just past the tigers next stand) on Welfird road on the right heading towards morrisons,it's free there?
Thracian Posted 12 December 2013 Posted 12 December 2013 Quite why the Soulsby council doesn't ban cars altogether from Leicester City centre and be done with it, I don't know. Just like sailors seeking the NorthWest passage, people will soon start dying trying to find a clear route into anywhere near the clock tower or market place. Ours will soon be the first City to have kalaeidoscope maps - where you have to shake them vigorously to see which few streets come up in colours as open and free from severe roadworks or building works on any particular day. Indeed if Leicester City was an animate person it'd be dead by now because the council have severed most each and every artery into its heart in rapid succession and apparently its the Belgrave Road flyover next - closed for 100 years or until they decide where to bury King Richard 111, whichever comes last! And if they don't sever the arteries completely they block em by half with a bus lane. How long before treatment is finished? Oh you should be out of the queues in six months! About the same as it takes to find a parking space near the Royal Infirmary. One bloke was whisked in there to be treated for dizziness last week - just from driving in so many circles past the front of the maternity unit. Meanwhile the local streets are often all but empty. If the many students who have digs nearby haven't gone home for their holidays, some don't have cars anyway and, of the other residents, many have driven off somewhere else to work. But no matter - the congestion can back up onto the main road by the Swan and Rushes with impunity - and you can get a decent pint there while you're waiting, although I've not yet heard of waiter service to the gridlocked cars! Best place for matchday parking? Don't know but if you find anywhere on the streets it won't be there next time you come.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 13 December 2013 Posted 13 December 2013 Residents have a good case, I wouldn't want the hassle if I lived in such a road.

Tudor Road area which isn't that far from Western Road is open to anyone.
