In Leicester City you get a free bulk collection, once every 2 or 3 months (I cant remember which) which is up to 5 large items each time.

I've used it myself a few times and it is really handy, then yes, any in between that you have to pay for.

Some of these houses that line the roads off Narborough Road with mattresses, armchairs and chest of drawers lining their front gardens would do well to be reminded by the council that it exists though.

Maybe they're storing them there until the free collection is available.

Living in the area, it’s most definitely getting worse.

The connection between Raymond Road and Wilberforce Road is an absolute disgrace.

I think if they'd only been there a few months I'd be inclined to agree, however some of these items of furniture have almost achieved listed status the length of time they've been there.

Oh yes, the joys of the Lambert Wilberforce skip, as I now call it. Absolutely horrible.

It’s always been shitty, but in recent times the shit has intensified. As for Narborough Road itself, all these foreign supermarkets are absolutely killing it, the one that has replaced the shoe shop on Raymond Road, the overflowing rubbish they dumped out a few weeks ago was a disgusting disgrace.

And the city does **** all to enforce any kind of standards.

Turning into a slum in some parts. ****ing disgusting

I'm not a fan generally of brutal architecture pulling that down though does nothing for the environment. I'm all for restoring buildings unless they were made in the 60s/70 out of cardboard and cheap concrete.

Restore it and turn the whole area into a shopping destination, with on the spot parking  to the rival the Highcross bring some life back into this part of the City. There's lots of potential around there with a bit of imagination and ££s

It used to be a very busy popular spot with the Tesco and other shops plus the Bowling Alley. This was built when the City were leaders with the ground breaking carpark, central Supermarket and the largest single floor bowling alley, 36 lanes in the UK

Is Lee Circle Grade II listed? I'm sure I heard that somewhere before but there's nothing online.

It's always had goblins pissing in the stairwells unfortunately; I don't think it'll ever reopen as a car park, not one that can make any money anyway. But then what do you do with a massive concrete helix in an absolute pit of an area?

I was visiting a site there this morning and maintain that flattening this eyesore would be incredible for the area. If the centre of Lee Circle became public open realm space, then the outside of the circle will instantly become attractive regeneration space facing into the circle instead of away from it.

If I were at the council, I would prioritise its demolition over anything else in the city at present.

Looking up at it today, its in a poor state of repair, I suspect I could condemn it if I were appointed to do so. The concrete is very much on its last legs and desperately needs structural repair works to make safe.

If it has to come down that sounds like a good Idea but I suspect due to the cost of demolition it someone would want to build on the space probably a massive block of flats disguise as student ones so the can cram loads in.

As part of a Management training course I went on I was part of a small team that spent several does shadowing a small sheet metal business and advising them on how to improve efficiency and hence increase profits. It was located opposite what was the Tesco entrance, back of Wilco's although Tesco had been long gone even then.

Hardly the business you want in a city centre but there were lots of other small businesses there

You are probably right, but the council is very focused on open realm at the moment and this is ripe for it as all the buildings on the outside of the circle are grim.

You've got the massive old BT telephone exchange at the back of it. I see some newish flats have all ready filled spaces around it.

I visualise more of the same, housing itself is not a problem but they're all built on a shoestring and are so boring

Planning is in for the large building next to the job centre.

Fleet House is nearly complete which is a nice scheme and isn't as boring as the building in the link.

1990's brick/render Architecture is so boring and bland.

The director of a business on the street has said the litter is a 'disgrace'.

Jasmine Siddon Reporter

A business owner has hit out over 'embarrassing' litter problems on a street in Leicester.

Alex West has worked in Nelson Street, off of London Road, for more than 15 years with rubbish a part of a number of concerns during this period.

Despite repeated complaints to Leicester City Council, he said that the litter is a “disgrace” - particularly on a Monday morning.

Mr West, the director of chartered accountancy firm Somerbys, even avoids arranging meetings with clients on this day “due to the mess”.

Not to say this is linked with the problem, but apparently there are a lot of HMO's around there now.

I've moved into a co working space in town. Been over a decade since I worked in town.

What a pleasant suprise. I've been as guilty as anyone in assuming Leicester was lost. I've made an effort these last three weeks since working there to walk round town at lunch. It's very surprising. there's a low key continental cafe society vibe with the outdoor seating.

There's more white people than I thought.. I mean,. I assumed it was down to say 5%. It's probs more like 2O% (which lets face it, is still very odd for a supposedly British city) .....it just needs a few more middle.class white people to come back. The city isn't lost to India and Somalia. Yet.

Pleasant surprises have been

*Volume of cool cafes - must be 20 really quite stylish places. With all the options, im.amazed anyone uses the hideous cafe Nero at Irish menswear

*The art workshops around phoenix,.old mercury offices and curve.

*The apartment blocks near curve.

*The king Street cafe / co working area (forgot it's name)  and area bottom of new walk....the new walk little park sqaures

*Cathedral Square and the cobbled streets off shooting it

*Jubilee Square world cup screen and chairs

*Silver arcade & St Martins

*Just out of city but the apartments behind the old great central

And I mean this, although there are freaks about, I never, ever feel unsafe. Not once.

Been interested to hear whether Jubilee Square is any good for the football. Merchants Yard looks alright from what i've seen and is a similar thing too.
