Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 June 2013 Posted 2 June 2013 Does flying through their international airspace count as visiting?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 June 2013 Posted 2 June 2013 I think there should be a Country I have NOT visited for some of you. Done a bit of Europe and IOM but nowhere spectacular like America or Asia Austria Italy Bulgaria Germany France Spain IOW IOS Jersy Guensey Scotland Wales Holland Belgian Crete Majorca Teneriffe Malta Think that's it. I don't think Isle of Sheppey counts as abroad.
shen Posted 2 June 2013 Posted 2 June 2013 North Korea Iceland Interesting! How was North Korea? And would you recommend going to Iceland?
bovril Posted 2 June 2013 Posted 2 June 2013 Interesting! How was North Korea? And would you recommend going to Iceland? An aquaintance told me the beer in NK is very good, apparently during the 80s there was some kind of 'beer race' between the two countries, NK invited a load of East Germans to help set up breweries and SK got the Americans in. Whether this is true or not......

Lombok/Bali is another being spoken about.
Hollism Posted 3 June 2013 Posted 3 June 2013 England Wales (x4) France (x3) Spain (x2) USA (x2) Only ROI will be added to that list this year as it stands, still hoping to find some money and go maybe Portugal or Tunisia in the summer. I'm looking for somewhere that I can go as an 18 year old, with 2-3 friends and have a couple of drink, chill on the beach, but not go out clubbing every night getting my fingers wet in half of Europe. I'll ask around in the Holiday's thread if it becomes a possibility.
Finnegan Posted 3 June 2013 Posted 3 June 2013 Japan was fabulous, just be careful when you book unless you're hugely unphased by weather and heat. It has a tropical climate in the warmer months and a very stifling summer that even the locals aren't very active in. I'd aim to go between October and March but be careful to avoid monsoon season. The rain is spectacular and can be fun to experience as a one-off but everything shuts down, even in Tokyo, so you'll get a lot of just sitting around. Do your fair share of the touristy stuff, Asakusa, Kyoto etc are genuinely beautiful despite them being a bit "obvious" in sight seeing terms, they aren't quite as tacky with it as we can be here. They are very crowded, though, nobody loves sight-seeing more than East Asians and the Japanese, Taiwanese and Hong Kong Chinese flock en masse. We took an internal flight from Tokyo to Fukuoka and got a rental car at the other end. I'd highly recommend this, the contrast was fantastic and it's great to get a good look at both the mania of inner city Tokyo and more traditional, rural Japan. The latter is simply stunning. The internal flight was about £120 return and we went down to a place called Amagase to visit a sensational, traditional hotel on the site of some natural hot springs. I can't stress enough how beautiful this was, literally a little bit of paradise nestled in lush, green mountains. Men's and women's springs were separate and tattoos were frowned upon / possibly banned if that's likely to ruin it for you and your missus but if not, give it a Google. I would but my phone is shit. Lastly, Japan is not really for the fussy or the meek. The Japanese typically love to practice their English, especially the younger generation, but you can't rely on it and you're going to have to be a bit adventurous to get by. This is even more the case with food, if you're not willing to dive head first in to local cuisine you won't have even half as much fun there. Oh and try Ichiran noodles and MOS burger!!

Bobby Hundreds Posted 3 June 2013 Posted 3 June 2013 Why would you never go back to Aus? I'm planning a trip out there in a few years. Just didn't like the place. It all felt a little bit backwards, like a 1950's time warp of a hybridized America/Britain. Much preferred New Zealand, such a stunningly beautiful place.
MPH Posted 3 June 2013 Posted 3 June 2013 Hoping to rack up a few more europeans before im 21 and then USA (vegas) when im 21!. Take your ID with you everywhere... There is a thing going on here where they are being told to check the ID of anyone who looks under 40 when buying alcohol.. Some dont..

Another reason I didn't like Australia was because I couldn't stand most of the people I met and the outright racist attitudes I observed towards the aboriginal populace.
