Tom17LCFC Posted 4 June 2013 Posted 4 June 2013 Honestly, are you still bothered about losing to us in the play-offs? I'm over us losing in the final, and that was a week ago. Anyway, the plan was for the players to sign permanently in the first instance, but as the takeover went through so soon before there was no time to scout and sign, hence getting a load of players on loan and being told to play whichever ones suited. Second of all, a bit of harmless research on sites such as Twitter will show that players such as Pudil, Anya, Abdi and Battocchio would be (in their own words) happy to stay at Watford. It wouldn't hurt if some of you guys had a crack at that. Thirdly, a lot of this is agent talk. A couple of days ago, Vydra's agent said that he'd probably stay at Watford. Fourthly, who can deny a player a slot in the Premier League? Remember, nobody knew who Vydra was this time last year, so it didn't seem that remarkable that we were getting him. Fifthly, for those of you who question us getting these players on free transfers, why wouldn't we? We're both owned by the same guy and it's not going to take him long to negotiate deals with himself. It is within his best interests that Watford become as profitable as possible. He's been doing this since 1986. Finally, for God's sake, get over it. Not even I carp on about running on the pitch and hurdling over Knockaert any more. If you're finding it difficult to do so, I know a couple of good therapists. lol

Guest MattP Posted 4 June 2013 Posted 4 June 2013 I have no idea why people listen to them anyway, Watford fans know nothing about what their board of directors have planned for them, exactly as ours don't really either. They will do what they want and what suits them, if selling Watford and leaving them in the shit looks a good option in two years they won't think twice about doing it. How English fans have been duped into thinking these foreign owners seriously care about our football clubs I have no idea. If they could make a fortune on it whilst sending you or them bust they would do it a shot with no care whatsoever.

Super_horns Posted 4 June 2013 Posted 4 June 2013 Whilst you are right to be dubious about anyone who comes into football the Pozzos do seem to be more long term in their thinking than your average make a quick buck businessmen type owners but guess you never really know. I don't think we will be over-spending though - that doesn't seem to be their model. Everyone will have to just wait and see - nothing is certain either way. Its all up in the air which maybe isn't a good thing for Zola regardless of what the outcome is. Sooner the situation is sorted and potential contracts are signed the better.
Fox92 Posted 4 June 2013 Posted 4 June 2013 i didn't rate him when i saw him live twice! bit lightweight and go found out a little! I don't think he would score many in the prem! Maybe 5 to 10! Rodney Marsh said this about Kevin Phillips.

Pozzo may have been steering clear of any potential scandals or tampering with given rules or presiding officials, but you'll find this passage rather interesting, because it shows Pozzo's interest in business... or football... or wasn't it just all about business? This arrangement also works well for the players, who accept low salaries in return for further development, experience in one of Europe’s best leagues and the opportunity to put themselves in the shop window. Although Udinese’s policy of acting as a stepping stone for their best players may not make their fans happy, there’s no doubt that the profits from the regular sales makes a huge contribution to the club’s financial self-sufficiency. http://swissramble.blogspot.ch/2011/05/udinese-selling-their-way-to-top.html Watford are nothing but another profit center for Pozzo, who buys cheap and sells with a profit. You may have periods of success, but never longer-lasting, because the majority of your loaned players will leave or will have to leave after a short phase before being sold on. Not just one, two or three players - a lot more than that. Every. Single. Season. Without additional funding by TV revenues, the Watford model is fragile and bound to explode. Namely, when the centrepieces, the players, fail to perform and cannot be sold for a profitable margin.

Fair point but we were relying on buying players or bringing them through and selling them on anyway - its how clubs like ours have always worked expect for the odd occasion when we've tried to spend a bit of money and failed!

So making a profit is a bad thing is it? and if you are making a profit surely you're going to have a better long term future than by spending bigger and bigger and becoming more and more in debt. The Pozzo model has been working for 25 years so they are no fly by nights and know what they are doing. Yes players will come and go but that's the same for any club.

The question here is not the fact that a profit is made (which is splendid, after all). It is the question how Watford will profit from those sales directly. Besides, as much as player rotations are inevitable on a regular basis, I'd place a bet on Watford going through much quicker changes during a season and at the end of each season compared to the rest of the Championship clubs. Players won't stay longer than a year with you, then they're gone.
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 The loan thing is ultimatley something for the football league to address, this summer, if they don't it's a don't hate the player hate the game scenairo for me.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 After the 'poor Swansea' movement I instigated and joined in with a few seasons back after we poached Sousa and they appointed Rogers - ending up with egg on my face -I'd love to keep quiet. BUT:POOR WATFORD
