The Call Centre

If ever you needed proof that deep down the Welsh and English are the same: Welsh call-centres are full of stupid cvnts as well.

Why watch someone do an impression of David Brent for a half hour when you can get both series of the Office for a few quid and have a better time?

Because I can't bear to watch anything with Ricky Gervais in it.

Is/was the American Office anygood? Never saw it. How many seasons was there and is it worth a watch? I love the British one.

I loved the british one, didnt find the american one funny at all, but many love it.

I loved them both.  The US Office was a bit shit when it tried to be the British Office.  Once it found an identity of it's own - it was great.  Steve Carell was excellent.

As for 'The Call Centre'...........I couldn't possibly work for such a twat.  He's having a mid-life crisis & wishes he was 18 again.........the average age of his staff.

The American Office was good for the first 4 seasons. In some ways it's better than the British version.

I couldn't work for him - or at least it would take a lot of getting used to. He's obviously very unorthodox but at least he's different. Overly different, but it's a change from what you'd see in a lot of dull, boring, coma-inducing call-centres.

Sounds like he's just trying to have a little bit of fun after having it all then hitting rock bottom. I don't see anything wrong with that concept. And I also don't see anything wrong in the concept of giving youngsters a job and giving them a job to look forward to.

I can't decide whether Nev is a bit creepy or he really does just care a lot about his staff and company.

I guess the programme is a condensed version of his antics, I'm sure 80% of his time he is doing admin, sorting out new clients and doing all the other stuff that any normal boss does, but he is just a character and takes a bit too much interest in his staff's personal lives, but none of them seem to mind and most of them seem to enjoy it. I would also imagine he is playing up a bit to the cameras.

I really don't know how I would react to working there, I'm not an all singing and dancing type, and wouldn't want him prying too much into my private life, but I'm sure he knows his boundaries and which of his staff won't appreciate his antics.

This,  The american office failed in its attempt to be like the UK office, BUT, once it found its place, i thought it has been brilliant, just had the final show after 9 seasons.

Of course after 150+ episodes there are a few duds, but i think as  a stand alone sitcom its one of Americas best.

My only suggestion is to watch it from season one to develop an affinity with the characters and grow with them.... loved it and one of the few US shows i will always recommend to friends.

Admittedly I only watched The adverts to The Call Centre but I get the gist and have worked in a similar place myself. From the very minimum that I've seen it does look a tiny bit put on - exaggerated maybe for the cameras, but I don't doubt that it is all mad and crazy like that in reality.

I know in my old job we always said we should have fly on the wall cameras because every day was a bit crazy. If it wasn't a fist fight over who owed who money in bets on the pool table/darts board it was a stripper for someone's birthday (eithe hired or one of my colleagues), eating competitions or whole company's holidays to benidorm - all bought and paid for - they were very messy.

I worked for someone like Nev when I lfirst left eft Uni, basically will be happy to laugh and joke but the minute you stop playing his game I bet he sacks loads of people. He isn't really providing a career but then why would he want to? He knows he can move people in and out probably on extremely low wages too. I think if you're someone that likes to have all their social life wrapped up with work colleagues then you could be happy there if call centre work was your bag.

The boss I'm referring to spent a lot of cash on employees to make them feel like they were special but in reality the average was of the place was ballbags and the turnover is staggering.

ps thanks for the review, i will order the first season :)

The Office was one of the greatest comedy shows of all time at a point before Gervais had had the opportunity to piss you or anyone else off so this is a bizarre statement.

Saw the advert for this show and thought the guy was a right annoying bastard. Never worked in an office though so no idea if this is the norm.

Like most US sitcoms/shows its been dragged on far too long. Most good british sitcoms finish after a few series, Only Fools And Horses being an exception which had 7 good seasons then endless xmas specials just dragging it out. The british office was fantastic.

A lot of sales environments do look for call-centre work. So he may not be providing a career in call-centres, but he's providing the employees with skills and confidence to boost their careers.

It's not the norm. But it's different and a much more livelier way of working!

Watching it now for the first time. Don't think it's funny.

Used to work in the IT bit of a call centre. Was mainly female in the call centre bit itself though.

It's quite funny, loved the parking in the bush that was hilarious.

Wouldn't say it's particularly funny and a lot of it, like the bush parking, is clearly staged for the cameras, but it is entertaining. Between that and the valleys you really have to wonder whether the Welsh are having a bit too much of a jolly at the English tax payers expense. Either that or - fully isolated from more civilised parts of the world - they are in the midst of a severe regression back into a more animalistic form of human. Wonder what the average IQ is in Wales? 40-odd?

Yeah the parking in the bush bit was staged otherwise he'd have stopped when he realised his bumper was hanging off. Idon't usually watch these sort of shows but I've watched every episode of this and the Greggs one. I'm a bit worried about myself...

Where will it end, though? Watching human interest shows about mundane jobs? Will there be a show with binmen? Scratch that, there probably already is.
