l444ry Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 Great Club? Our fans really are a bit above their station, we've never won a League or an FA Cup. How big do people think we are? Or perhaps they weren't around for the great Matt Gilles sides that reached three cup finals in the sixties, Bloomfield's entertainers in the seventies or O'Neills League Cup wins and top ten Premiership finishes. The older amongst us know our place in the football world........and it's higher than making excuses for an average manager with average players.

No real achievement there then. Calling Bloomfield's team 'entertainers' means fvck all, Blackpool were 'entertainers' in their solitary PL season and what place in the football world did that give them? Yes MON won League Cups and finished top 10 but that doesn't give us any right to still be there. I agree our place in the football world is probably in the top 20 clubs, but just because we have been good in the past it doesn't give us a divine right to be there now. In fact whole your whole point is unfairly skewed against Pearson. Our spell of being regularly outside the top flight from 2004-2009 is nothing to do with him. It's not about making excuses, you're trying to make it sound as if we lost and can't regain this mythical place at the table solely because of Pearson.

Times change unfortunately, it's a totally different game now and you can only try and achieve what's relevant to what current ambitions are. I bet Gilles never had to trim 21million off in a season I doubt Preston fans are demanding Premiership football because they won the league and cup in the 50's.

Our place in the football world is roughly where we are, either in the top flight or chasing promotion to it. We are traditionally around the top 25-30 clubs in the country, Pearson is not putting us in an unknown position in the pyramid.
Babylon Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 What a pretty pass it's come to when the expectation levels of a great club like Leicester City FC drop so low that some people feel the need to defend Nigel Pearson's managerial record as a badge of honour. What a crock of shit. People are defending him in a thread about being relegated, a place perfectly fit for such a thing considering we've never gone backwards under him so far. People are also defending what he did at Southampton, where he did improve them and their fans do appreciate what he did... They would know better than anyone criticising his time there.

Well I think it's a crock of shit that expectations are that low, yours included evidently. So that's 1-1 on the insult stakes. So, argument wise, where has that got us?

Mine for thinking it's utter plop to suggest we will get relegated, or the Pearson boo boys who think we will.
Matt Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 Great Club? Our fans really are a bit above their station, we've never won a League or an FA Cup. How big do people think we are? League One?

Mine for thinking it's utter plop to suggest we will get relegated, or the Pearson boo boys who think we will. They expect a relegation battle, they have low expectations. Those of us accused of taking average and mediocrity have talked about finishing in the top six at least. But we're not ambitious apparently.
suffolk fox Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 League One? Won league two a couple of times too before the premiership ever came into exsistence.

His record at Southampton was 3 wins out of 14, he's a clown
Guest MattP Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 His record at Southampton was 3 losses out of 14, he's makes a team hard to beat and along with a big performance when it mattered on the last day that's what kept them up.
BNET Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 What the Fukc ? and it was 4 losses, distorting facts eh !
Guest MattP Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 and it was 4 losses, distorting facts eh ! I'm not including a game where he didn't pick the team, didn't enter the dressing toom and wasn't really in charge. Even if you want to include it his points ratio is still an improvement and it still kept them up.
Corky Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 His record at Southampton was 3 wins out of 14, he's a clown He did the job he was asked to do, unlike the legend we had in charge.
Guest MattP Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 Just realised Nigel has the best winning percentage of any Leicester manager in history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Leicester_City_F.C._managers

It seems a large number of the older chaps demand these past glory days every season. I'm almost pleased I never experienced them because it means I can watch my club without spouting out how disgusted I am with our status in the Championship or how much I hate our manager and the shit squad we have. Call my expectations too low and whatever but I can at least say I enjoy watching Leicester City and get far more out of being a fan than those privileged enough to watch times gone by.
BNET Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 He did the job he was asked to do, unlike the legend we had in charge. You happy if we carry on with a win percentage like that then, because i'm not, and thats all you are going to get from the idiot. If Southampton thought he was any good and he had done a good job they wouldn't have slung him out, like we should before we waste another season with his stupid tactics, team selections and substitutions.

Did I say that? He did the job he had to do then. His win percentage with us is far higher, if you hadn't noticed (which you probably hadn't). They got rid of him because they couldn't afford to keep him, and went down the next year. If he had a win percentage like that here he would be gone, so don't go crying about it. But it's better, so he's still with us.

But he as had a win percentage worse than that, was it 3 in 17 and he is still here, god knows why ! l doubt very much that the reason that Southampton got rid was because they couldn't afford him, he wouldn't have been on much money as really he was a nobody in managerial circles. l would say that they looked at his ability, or lack of it and his record with clubs like Carlisle which really was guff, l know people don't believe this but the stats are there to read, if you really want see his actual record and not distort it to fit your point of view.

That's not his whole reign though is it!? Which is exactly what you are doing. I've not distorted anything mate, I've left it to you
