Voll Blau Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Might get to use my Monday ticket at this rate instead of sitting in Shambles Square all day drink Sam Smith's beer at £2 a pint.
Guest MattP Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Fair play to the Aussies, played with a straight bat and some patience. Still hard to see them taking 20 of our wickets on this surface though, draw looking nailed on.
Guest MattP Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Bob Willis going mad on the umps on the verdict.
Guest Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Got absolutely smashed and pretty sunburnt down there today. Heard some of the worst (by which i mean just poor) sledging of Trott I've ever heard by the Aussies in front of us at which point he basically offered them out if anybody clocked a load of blokes building a massive snake of empty pints in D block on TV near the end that was us lot Cricket wasn't much to write home about from an England perspective but we kept ourselves entertained.
Guest MattP Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Saw you!!! Aussie sledging is generally shit. Only good one ive ever heard was to Phil Tufnell. "Tuffers, can I borrow your brain? I'm building an idiot"
Guest Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 The people behind us absolutely loved us when we built that I can tell you They were basically doing that Darryl Strawberry slow chant of 'Darrr-ylll' to him. Which had a nostalgic Simpsons vibe to it but was generally crap
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Still reckon we could get rolled for under 400 here, it's just how we are. Can't see us doing enough with the ball to get a result in this test. Steve Smith is frustratingly shit. Alot of Aussies think the same divides opinion of alot of people.

Smith is a funny one, I really like him and always have, I think a lot compared him to Warner when he was younger and he never was or will be Shane Warne, but he is a fantastic cricketer good with bat and ball and his fielding skills would get him into many teams alone. I got laughed at at work when I suggested he would be one of Australia's best on this tour.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 How come the Aussie PM isn't mentioning the decision against Smith where he knocked the cover off it?
surrifox Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 How come the Aussie PM isn't mentioning the decision against Smith where he knocked the cover off it? ha ha - because he's Australian. They have a rather one-eyed way of looking at things - like they like to pretend we are whingers when they are world class at it
Guest MattP Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Smith was out three times yesterday so frustrating he is still there. Need some early wickets under this cloud today.
Captain... A bit of a Jack of all trades master of none, but always seemed to contribute in the IPL, I remember one great bit of improvisation, ball going for a six, he jumped over the rope flicked the ball up in midair, landed, got back onto the pitch and caught it, in the end it was a six as he touched the ground over the rope whilst touching the ball, a great effort....but he just has one of those faces that you would never get tired of punching, I mean seriously hours of pleasure just punching that weird sort of play-doh in a condom baby face, it would be so soft and pleasurable on your knuckles.

That was always going to be a disadvantage of the review system though. For any side. Use then all up and you're bound to think it's sod's law that he should be out, not given, can't review. It's happened to Australia already and now England, and it'll be sure to happen again! I do admit though it must be hard to gauge for a captain when to take a review and how worthwhile it is.

StanSP Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Pietersen off the pitch already . Was he jokingly pushing the camera away?

Yeah you can't knock Cook for his reviews even though they were wrong, Swann's was knocking the middle of a stump and went umpires call and Smith nicked the second one clear as day. Third one was just gross incompetence by the worst umpire in World Cricket, if he doesn't give that he shouldn't be out on the field.
StanSP Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Beefy getting very irate at the no ball for knocking the stumps as a bowler. I find it ironic that he says it's only one bowler doing it (Finn) and the rule was brought in because he was the only one. But then Anderson just did it... So it's more than one person then .

But his point was that it always used to happen on occasion and there was never any rule, it was only because Finn did it so regularly that they brought the rule in.
StanSP Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Yeah, I know. But someone else has done it now and I presume it puts the batsman off (bails flying off) just like a slight movement in front of the sight screen would. Anyway, good tactics by Cook there to almost get Clarke out!
Captain... Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 This is why I said yesterday that I would prefer Tremlett, Bresnan is very similar bowler to Jimmy, and if it ain't swinging for Jimmy, then it's not going to swing for Timmy. Tremlett would have offered something very different, especially at Old Trafford.
StanSP Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Have they ever had mics on players to talk with the commentators in test matches? If not, does anyone think it would be brought in?
Captain... Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 It's never very insightful in the IPL, can't see them doing it in a test match. So as the cricket is not very exciting, what would you do as Clarke? When would you declare? Stories of showers, the pitch pretty flat and offering very little assistance, must win game or they won't win back the ashes, Clarke has a reputation for aggressive declarations, so when would you declare?
Bobby Hundreds Posted 2 August 2013 Posted 2 August 2013 Boycs of Steve Smith - "There are more brains in a chocolate mouse".
