  1. 1. Regarding doggie doo-doo, which do you prefer?

Other civilians may enter the poll.

Which do you prefer?

A. The 80's/90's when you had to use your in-built 'coil radar' to try and avoid stepping in a stinking turd, but could happily let your dog launch an ass rocket any place they fancied - and that was the end of the matter.

or

B. The modern era when you have to bend over in a humiliating fashion and pick up your dogs logs, else risk collecting a large fine. (For other civilians - B. The modern era because there's less shit on the streets)

I personally prefer the old days even though I stood in my fair share. The feeling you get nowadays when your fingers grip that turd through that thin black 'hygeine' bag is oh so wrong. I'd prefer it if the law were changed to us having to stick a red/yellow flag on a cocktail stick into the offending object, which would help the council locate the mess so they could pay somebody to collect it every day.

What a golden thread this is lol

Well, while I absolutely hate the feeling I would much rather pick it up than step in it.

So i'm a 'modern era' man.

I've never owned a dog, but as a civilian, I prefer the modern era.

People taking dogs on sports fields annoys me so much. It's led to most fields being closed off from the public in my hometown now.

Bit of a compromise. It ****s me off that the same streets are constantly filled with dog shit yet actual, decent folk are feeling the need to walk around picking up dog shit in a tiny plastic bag from foot paths barely anyone walks down because they're paranoid.

Fosse Road is absolutely disgusting. My walk to work in the morning is an obstacle course, if you let your dog just shit everywhere on the pavement and you leave it for all to navigate round then you're a sub-human troglodyte.

That said, if my dog takes a dump in a bush just off a path I'll happily leave it. I don't LIKE picking up poo, I certainly don't WANT to pick up poo.

Amazed at what I've read there. I've no seen dog shit on the street for years.

If they don't pick it up they should be in court.

Modern definitely, dog turd is disgusting.

A side question, whatever happened to white dog shit?

Every dog should be electronically tagged, it's DNA recorded so that owners can be traced and fined and a licence fee paid to cover the costs of emptying the shit bins.

Having fines available obviously doesn't work because the odds on a warden, do they exist catch some one is next to zero.

I don't have dog but occasionally have the dubious privilege of looking after my daughter's dog, picking up the shit in a bag is bad enough especially if the bag splits like it did for me the other week but putting it in the bin is much worse the smell makes me heave and heave and stays in my nostrils for hours.

There's too many dogs in the world.

Don't you live in Glenfield? You obviously don't walk the same streets as me. Dog shit alley around my way.

Very rarely use alleyways. I'm the side of Glenfield near towards Kirby. It seems fine here.

Alleyways was just a throwaway phrase.

I'm the other end near the A50 so Glenfield has a dogshit  and a dogshit free end to it. :P

Does that apply to all shit. I mean, as you turnaround to flush do you shut your eyes. How about changing a baby's nappy, did you leave that to the missus? :P

I nearly mentioned white dog shit in the OP lol I'll never forget one of my family members in the 80's (aged about 6 or something) being forced to put a hard white turd in his mouth by a bullying, glue-sniffing NF member and his mates (or maybe he was a punk gang member, I can't quite remember). It was either that, or violence, so he chose to taste the turd. OH THE HORROR!

I agree with folk that turds on the streets are disgusting, which is why I think the council should have dedicated collecting teams. If they don't want to pay people to do it then they could force the community service villains to do it.

On a side note, I'm not sure if 'civilian' in the title and OP is the correct word. Perhaps 'citizen' is what I was looking for.

I'm with mattP, its disgusting, all dog owners should pick up their dogs mess, I would imagine most do as I rarely see any, back in the day that stuff was everywhere and playing football on park would often mean sliding into dog poo at least once.

Did plenty of nappy changing, dog shit bins are in league of their own, the stuff is in there fermenting all day and probably over several days as I rarely see them being emptied and the ones I've used always seem full.

...horses...

Good god. I'm pretty sure that there's a notorious stretch of road between Earl Shilton and Hinckley that always has a fresh lump of horse shite laying on the pavement.

Now you can't have it both ways, either the Glenfield Streets are paved in feces or the bins are full. :)

I assure you it's both, the streets are better than they were but there's still plenty there.

My grandpa would pay me sixpence to follow the Co-Op milk cart and pick up with a bucket and shovel for his roses.

I always pooper scoop when I walk my mother's dog. I hate it, you can feel the warmth of it through the bag.

lol I think white dog shit disappeared when the laws kicked in, the only reason it was white because it had been sitting there for 6 months.

Modern era for me too, its one of the reasons I don't have a dog.

I own a dog and we tend to pick it up. Occassionally me or my Dad will pretend not to see it or just assume it was a wee. My Mum does it religiously though, she even picks up other people's dog's shit.

There's plenty of dog shit at the park in Blaby, don't see much on the street though. Now horse shit, there's plenty of that on the street but horse riders don't have to pick that up do they?

I don't really remember the old days, but tbh I can't say we're reaping the benefits of picking up crap, because not many people actually do it. Fortunately my dog's is quite hard so it's not so bad. Feel for those having to pick up the other kind.

I think anyone that owns a dog should always pick it up, how would you like it if I came in your living room and done a big shit on your carpet and then just walked out the front door.
