Moto Hello Posted 23 July 2013 Posted 23 July 2013 Pearson has used this formation tonight and I personally like this formation for us a lot and would like our first XI to be: Schmeical Moore Morgan Whitbread De Laet King James Bakayogo Knockaert Nugent Wood I think this team is very strong for this league and would only need a couple of Defenders (Aké from Chelsea would be perfect where I have put Whitbread) and a central midfielder.
Aus Fox Posted 23 July 2013 Posted 23 July 2013 I think that 11 if everyone stays fit and on form goes up this year, I know injuries suspensions and form can be a problem, but don't think we are too far away
GorlestonFox Posted 23 July 2013 Posted 23 July 2013 Nige seems keen on the 3-5-2 says the players are comftable and capable. Said it gives us another option coming into the season. Bout time Nige!
Happy Fox Posted 23 July 2013 Posted 23 July 2013 We would need strength in depth to play that formation so another central midfielder and centre back and we would be sorted.
FoxesFan123 Posted 23 July 2013 Posted 23 July 2013 I'm still not so sure on this formation yet. I mean, it's so dated, are any clubs still playing this formation?
teblin Posted 23 July 2013 Posted 23 July 2013 I'm still not so sure on this formation yet. I mean, it's so dated, are any clubs still playing this formation?Hull got promoted playing it last year and Watford finished 3rd doing the same.
Legend_in_blue Posted 23 July 2013 Posted 23 July 2013 Are we more likely to play this with someone dropping back from CM to cover the back three rather than place the extra man in CM behind the front two? The worry for me is that with Pearson's attitude towards hoofing it forward the formation becomes 532 instead. We have to be in the opposition faces for this to work imo.

Bout time Nige! Let's hope it's Plan A and not Plan CEdit- Just in case people don't get it, Pearson apparently doesn't have a plan B

FoxesBoyChris Posted 23 July 2013 Posted 23 July 2013 3-1-4-2 is the formation we should play (basically an adaptation of 3-5-2. Chalobah would be the best man to play infront of the CB's and behind the two other centre midfielders.
Grewks Posted 23 July 2013 Posted 23 July 2013 Formations mean relatively little. Real madrid play a 4-2-3-1, barcelona play a 4-3-3, and Manchester United usually play a 4-4-2/4-4-1-1.....yet they all still dominate opposition.
fatboy Posted 23 July 2013 Posted 23 July 2013 Wigan played many games last year with a 3 man defence, as did Juventus and Fiorentina. Used in the right way it can be very attacking.
Chilwell_Fox Posted 23 July 2013 Posted 23 July 2013 We had a fair bit of success with 3-5-2 during the O'Neil years. Key is having a few players comfortable with playing in a few different positions like Savage and Callum Davidson. Your full/wing backs have to have some stamina though.
DanTheFox07 Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 Do Watford play 3-5-2? Or is it a 4-3-3...? If Pearson is planning on a Watford style of football then I'm up for that, we do have pace in the side, will be interesting to see how we adapt to such a system and see if he get's playing as a counter attacking side or the opposite where we pressure the opposition.

I don't recall Steve Guppy getting up and down the pitch and rarely did he take the full back on,he did what Lloyd Dyer cannot... Cross a ball in the box.

Cross a ball in the box. To be fair Guppy did have stamina and used to put a shift in, but your bang on about him not needing to beat a man just getting the cross in
Tielemans63 Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 Might take is a while to properly adapt to 3-5-2 and be successful at Championship level - we might take a couple of beatings before we start to understand / look comfortable playing it. It'll be interesting to see if the fans are still happy with 3-5-2 if we lose 2 of our first 3 games for example. I think NP is right to try it though. We need another CB definitely but otherwise we have the personnel for it.
Leicester_lad_92 Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 Went to port vale last night and the formation seemed to suit us well could maybe do with another centre half as not too sure about whitbread, distribution is awful:/ Got to say Jamie Vardy looked sharp and showed pace in behind!! Marshall looked comfortable in behind too:)
fleckneymike Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 I think Watford played 343 at times (as did Wigan). Bielsa still uses it at Bilbao http://www.zonalmarking.net/tag/3-4-3/ It's certainly been all the rage in Europe http://www.zonalmarking.net/tag/3-5-2/ but as has been said, formation is largely immaterial unless you alter your style of play
Loggy88 Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 It's good to see Pearson trying something different, and I like 3 5 2 I think it will give us more width and we will more expansive and cause the opposition more problems when were attacking. Hope he starts with it at Middlesborough.
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 To be fair Guppy did have stamina and used to put a shift in, but your bang on about him not needing to beat a man just getting the cross in But he never looked happy back tracking, but a great player
davieG Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 Well I doubt any game of football will see a team maintaining a static 352 formation surely the concept is to be more 334 when you're all out attacking more 532 when you're under the cosh defending and only 352 when you're building up an attack/cruising. The whole idea should be to be flexible. You should even be able to slip into a 442 or 433 if the need arises. What we need apart from the skills is intelligent players.
