We'll see next week

ManU losing games against Nobody XI's is barely raising comment.

Really difficult to read anything into it.

Although I agree in principle, not scoring goals is worrying.

And there has been plenty of comment on United's pre-season failings.

What happened the season we tore peterborough apart in a pre-season friendly?

Scoring goals in pre-season gives us no advantage at Boro.

And plenty of comments on previous pre-seasons where we hit them in left and right and ended up having a mediocre or disappointing season.

Goals in pre-season are no indicator for the rest of the campaign.

What I find worrying is the two forwards are isolated, and that in both formations we've played today.

Haven't seen any other games other than the crappy webcam at Leamington, so not sure about how we played at York etc, although feedback from people who went was broadly positive

On our rise to the top of the table last season, we played with high tempo & always on the front foot, Vardy was working opponents and playing the midfielders in. Now our midfielders are dropping off, which not only makes opponent attacks more likely to be successful, but means there's too big a gap to the forwards when we do win the ball

For now it looks like we've got a mentality nearer that which saw us slide down the table, rather than climb to the top of it.

Hopefully it's just the malaise of a friendly rather than anything else, but it does concern me

I certainly don't think Zooom looks fit. He looks very tentative on the ball too. Early days though and difficult to get into. I like Jeff at LWB though. Growing into it and class player.

Gally not RB and too narrow for that goal. Oh well.

I think a lot of people are completely under-estimating the importance of pre-season here.

It's not the be-all and end-all by any means but 3 goals in 4 games doesn't suggest we've CURRENTLY got many ideas going forward.

As it happens I think we'll have a good season again, but there is an incredibly blasé attitude to these games.

Exactly. We don't look like scoring. That is a concern, regardless of the competitiveness of the fixture.

So...you disagree with the model set by the most successful side in this country??

You're so right..

Oh, I think no one on here is underestimating the pre-season, many people just see a different focus. And goalscoring is not part of that.

Also keep in mind that one of our main strikers (Nugent) did not play today and that we were using a somewhat new formation for a couple of our players.

Tisserand makes it 3-0 for Monaco.

Game over, match practice gained.

How much "match practice" have we got out of this? Our players have just spent 90 minutes tearing around in the sun chasing shadows. How often is that going to happen this season?

It's not remotely representative of how a real match would be. They'd get more "match practice" from an 11 on 11 game in training.

Well their attitude is even worse than ours......yet they prove time and time again that a poor pre-season can bring success.
