MPH Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Could have been an eccentric millionaire. Never assume. I can assure you the only millionaires that come out of 'the bottoms'( cracktown) don't drive around in the back of a taxi, they usually drive rented cars from out of state so they cant be traced
Guesty Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Does annoy me how every famous chef needs some sort of crusade to flog their latest cook book or TV show. If they're that ****ing bothered release all the recipes for free on the net or make some youtube clips so everyone can see it without the "Saint Chef" making any money. I appreciate that some may genuinely want to help out; it's just the pontificating sanctimonious attitude some take, crying their eyes out, making out they're one rung down from Mother Theresa. It's like... biatch, please; you're making millions off this.
Merging Cultures Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Actually, Jamie's recipes are pretty much all on his website. I felt quite annoyed to see I wasted money on one of his cookbooks.
MooseBreath Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Plus he's making a tv show being broadcast on a free-to-air station where not only will you get the recipes but also be shown exactly how to make the food.
Monk Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 The problem is not money, nor is it education. The problem is twofold: Widespread apathy towards cooking in this country Manipulative marketing by food & supermarket corporations

There is a non-political Food-bank Action day coming up on October 1st (FBA for Googlers) where in several cities there will be charities service providers etc. setting up foodbank stalls outside council offices. Maybe some celebrity chefs can set one up, although it is not meant to be self promotion so they wouldn't be able to use the day to flog their books just cook and promote healthy food. There may be some appearing already as there is a good response so far.
Steven Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 He can shove his mockney accent where the sun does not shine. He is oversold.
purpleronnie Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 I wonder if those agreeing with Mr oliver also agree with his comments that European immigrants are "tougher" than British workers who whinge about long hours.
Guest MattP Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 I wonder if those agreeing with Mr oliver also agree with his comments that European immigrants are "tougher" than British workers who whinge about long hours.Definitely. My experience of working with Poles is that they are far tougher in the workplace and never moan about getting their head down or doing long hours.
purpleronnie Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Definitely. My experience of working with Poles is that they are far tougher in the workplace and never moan about getting their head down or doing long hours. That's because you're sexy.
Zingari Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Lower class scum in can't cook properly shocker. Too Right. Why can't these fools be more like us and just use a bit of common sense, Even if you can't cook some of these fookers should realise you can get a good cheap balanced diet if they alternate regularly between KFC, Pizza Express, BK, The Kebab House and McIndians. There's even a bit of salad in some of the stuff. And you get plenty of excercise if you park in the car park and don't use the drive-thru. Those low class scum seem to need everything drilling into them
Parafox Posted 28 August 2013 Author Posted 28 August 2013 Several months ago I was driving along the road and this taxi pulled out of this road that came from a poor area. Nothing wrong with that of course... lots of people dont have cars. Well I was on The way to the chemist.. this woman took the taxi and went into the McDonald's drive through that was next to it!!!! Couldn't belive it!! got my sons medication in time to see her handed two large bags of food and a drinks tray. Getting a taxi to go to McDonald's drive thru!! Bet it cost a small fortune when you factor in the cost of the taxi. Could of fed a family for all their meals for a few days jamie style. so glad jamie didnt see it. Would of had a heart attack bless him! Maybe it was a one-off birtday treat that she'd saved for as she couldn't afford a "proper" birthday party... maybe???
Zingari Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Maybe it was a one-off birtday treat that she'd saved for as she couldn't afford a "proper" birthday party... maybe??? or she could be the wife / friend/ relation of the driver who wasn't actually working at the time .
Guest MattP Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Maybe she's a secret millionaire in danger so chooses to live there and eat shit to keep the illusion alive.
Zingari Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Maybe it's Jamie Oliver disguised as a woman sneaking out for a burger after throwing up his mangetout and vine tomato pasta surprise?
ADK Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 I wonder if those agreeing with Mr oliver also agree with his comments that European immigrants are "tougher" than British workers who whinge about long hours. Don't agree with that.
Guest MattP Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Maybe it's Jamie Oliver disguised as a woman sneaking out for a burger after throwing up his mangetout and vine tomato pasta surprise? Maybe it's actually the CEO of Macdonalds doing that undercover boss show for Channel 4.
Merging Cultures Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 I wonder if those agreeing with Mr oliver also agree with his comments that European immigrants are "tougher" than British workers who whinge about long hours. Definitely. Not everyone should go to university and get a degree. Especially if it is in some rubbish subject. Instead, get out and do ab apprenticeship. Full disclosure I have a BSc in Economics and an MSc in Financial Economics. My cousins are gas fitters and earn about the same as I do. They desrve it, they have specialised skills just like I do. They were better off doing a trade than going to uni. However, when some people go to uni and do a soft subject they leave feeling entitled to a desk and a good salary. I've seen it with some of my friends. They would have been better off doing a trade. One guy repeated year 1 of a sports science degree several times and at different universities. Never graduated. D'oh. The European workers that come here are looking to work. They do not expect a desk and big salary like some of my 'uni' going British friends.
Smudge Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 Fast food has just become a substitute for what the "common as muck" have always called food. The chip pan was always on the go. Sausage egg and chips was the staple diet, close run by beans on toast, bread and dripping, bread and jam followed by jelly and cream. All washed down with raspberry cream soda from the Corona man. Having said all that, people were not so fat in those days.

Having said all that, people were not so fat in those days. Happy memories. Can't remember the last time I had fried bread. And I am still fat. But I own it. I eat and drink double what my wife does. The key is energy out, as you alluded to. Last year I lost 40lbs and ran a marathon. Then I had job uncertainty, comfort ate and gained it all back. But I accept that and know how to fix it. It is my personal responsibility. But perhaps I am just a part of the 'chattering class'.

Grasping at straws a little bit! or she could be the wife / friend/ relation of the driver who wasn't actually working at the time . and he made her sit in the back seat? Harsh!
Parafox Posted 28 August 2013 Author Posted 28 August 2013 Grasping at straws a little bit! and he made her sit in the back seat? Harsh! Not really, just a way of highlighting the way people make sweeping assumptions based on thier own judgemental viewpoint just because they see something in a particular context that they assume to be what is actually happening as opposed to what it might otherwise be. Taxi driver Tourette's can affect them too.

Merging Cultures Posted 28 August 2013 Posted 28 August 2013 What a load of rubbish. No seriously, I have a BSc in Economics and an MSc in Financial Economics, family who are doing very well in a trade and didn't go to uni and friends who went to uni to do a pointless degree and failed many times. But please do go on and explain why it is a load of rubbish... I can, it was when Mrs Smudge went away for a week. Jealous. My wife is going away next week... I know what I am going to eat
