LDS Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 I don't agree in him leaving out Wood whilst playing Nuge. Lloyd is in form too so he should be started. You need to get goals in the first half against teams like charlton else they score and then settle in leaving you with a tough 2nd half. Also, what's Pearson's problem with starting Knockaert? Let him cause havok from the off. His often ball hogging will give the wingers time to get up beside him. He's a big player in a formation like 3-5-2.
MANFACE Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 NP did make a tactical blunder. We should have set a team to attack...attack !! Attack is the best form of defence. I don't agree in him leaving out Wood whilst playing Nuge. Lloyd is in form too so he should be started. Bettsj2 Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 This time last year we'd lost our first 3 away games because we were playing open attacking football. At the time, people said that we should be cautious away from home and that NP was 'tactically naive' for not doing so. Now, we are playing a defensive game to contain and again, NP is being called for it. I think the tactics are spot on at the minute. If it stays 11v11, we win the game today. We'll tear Wigan apart next game. Gaurantee it. Anyone who wants to disagree, £50 on it?
Jakemoore Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 Mate, do us a favour and go support united! Clearly that's the only way you'd be happy!
Manwell Pablo Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 Some criticism of Pearson is perfectly justified. We've been absolutely appalling everytime we've played this pathetic 8-0-2 formation, everyone knows it, and yet Pearson sticks with it. It really beggars belief and why he keeps playing it is to me a total mystery. I said during out capitulation last season that I thought Pearson had lost the plot in terms of formation. Nothing that has happened this season has convinced me otherwise. The drawing of the line between taking a critical view on some of his decisions and the wanting him sacked at all costs is where a lot of people struggle on this website.
morris1234 Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 Getting Increasingly scared for this club and its expectant fans. Worse every single year
smudger63 Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 No but it would imply that since he's only lost 1 in five with three wins that he's not 'clueless'. Some people on here need to take hormonal pills, they're embarrassing themselves really. So working to that logic, does the fact we only won three in the last 17 games at the end of last season mean he was clueless then?
Tielemans63 Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 Shocked to see some people are content with this.I don't think anyone is to be honest. People are simply not getting carried away either way.I think you make some good points to be fair but you shot yourself in the foot with that thread title.
morris1234 Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 Ermmm just a quick one....how many of you were calling for a 4-5-1 last year when playing away and cancelling out teams, like they do with us, and in some threads suggested the 3-5-2 away from home also in the hope they can counter attack and cause problems. Ever think the players just didnt perform? As I'm sure Pearson, who actually has a proven record like him or not, does not ask his players to play defensively or play like they did today. We can only speculate the reasons he has for starting certain players and leaving out others but I trust him because he sees them everyday. He may think one player can cancel out an opposition threat, he may want to leave somebody out as he feels they will be ineffective, some may have slight knocks, confidence problems, ilness etc etc he may play the 'defensive' players in midfield but maybe he has realised that going back to basics away from home is important. Trying too much will look good but how many points did we drop after playing brilliantly, last season. The thing is you all know this and I believe those who are 'kicking off' or 'moaning' are just frustrated as am I. I did not want to lose today let alone have kermit score again!! Speculate to your hearts content but why always presume the worst and be self sabotaging towards your own club. That's what I don't get. Averaging 2 points a game over the season is what we should aim for, and we are well on our way. That's my thoughts anyway. (Not really a quick one in the end)
buzzy Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 Says it all in the title. We go away to a side with 1 point, only scoring 3 goals all season and just off the back of a 3 goal embarrassment by Doncaster. So what do we do? Play 5 along the back. The most negative and defensive minded tactic possible. Another new partnership along that backline too, how can our defence be settled when it's being choped and changed constantly with different partnerships and formations. Now I understand we can't win every game, but surely we can at least try and set up to win them? First half I cant think of a single shot on goal. We know Charlton don't have the best defence in the leauge and certainly not a quick one so why are we not getting at them with pace? Dropping an inform dyer & knockaert when they changed the game for us last weekend & both scored mid week once again proves to me just how clueless he is and how little he bothers looking into the opposition. you have hit it on the head just beware of a backlash from the pearson lovers
Kyle_Le_Don Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 I'm chuffed with the start we've had but I do think we should have took the game to them more...
Monsell1976 Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 Getting Increasingly scared for this club and its expectant fans. Worse every single year Getting increasingly scared for this club as expectant fans are worried about the clubs finances and need to be out of this league sooner rather than later, and the longer we stay in this league the bigger the debt gets. The expectant fans want a manager that can achieve this, and negative tactics concern them, the expectant fans are fine at the minute as 10 out of 15 points is good, but for alot of expectant fans the jury is still out. Worse every year( yes the debt from being in this league).
Fox92 Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 I love Nige, will always defend him, but I do agree with this. I wanted us to play three up top like we did at Derby, where we looked dangerous, and especially considering Wood scored a hat trick in the week. I also think it gives the wing backs better options as well because Nuge and Vardy go wide for them, instead we reverted to long clueless balls today. Wasn't too impressed.
Essington blue Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 No but it would imply that since he's only lost 1 in five with three wins that he's not 'clueless'. Some people on here need to take hormonal pills, they're embarrassing themselves really. yes, & it's embarrassing how a lot of people know jack shit about football on here. 450 minutes of football played & about 90 minutes of decent stuff. Here's one for you! Blackpool have had a flying start to the season don't you agree? Do you think Paul ince is a good manager? The answer is no by the way, he's shit!
Corky Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 To be honest I don't mind him trying out new formations, too many times last season we were stuck with a rigid 4-4-2 (when it was going wrong). However, as much as I think they are good players, the three central midfielders don't have too much creativity and flair, I'd like to see Knockaert in for the Wigan game with James not available, ahead of the two CMs (so a 3-4-1-2 formation). 4-3-3 might work with Wood as the central striker, Vardy and Nugent are good workers in the channels and their running is crucial. Wood is a finisher and is better served being in and around the box.
Ricey Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 I like NP, I really want him to be the man that get's us up. However, my faith in him dipped in the second half of last season and as a result I'm finding myself getting easily irritated by him this season. I'm sure I'm not alone and if 4/5 games along the line we are still playing crap, I can unfortunately see the fans turning on mass. He has a lot of good qualities but my fear is that he isn't tactical intelligent enough. Todays set-up and team selection was baffling and there were numerous baffling tactical decisions last season. So far it appears he hasn't learnt very much from last seasons awful form, but let's hope I'm proven wrong about that.
theessexfox Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 In 3-5-2, the fullbacks need to be WINGBACKS and you cannot play a midfield three with zero creative players.

I'm hoping with Hammond coming in it'll convince Nige to play Knockaert as a more advanced CM, knowing that Hammond will be there to tidy up. However, if I was a betting man I'd stick some on a horribly negative Hammond/Drinkwater/King combination for Wigan.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 He's clueless because we've lost our first game in 7? Fvck off.
Flyfox Posted 31 August 2013 Posted 31 August 2013 Yep. 3 points off top. Totally clueless. Unbelievable.
Legend_in_blue Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 If yesterday's result is an early indication as to how he hasn't learnt an awful lot after his tactically clueless decisions made last season, then he's just as clueless this season. But, it's still to early to call him clueless at this point in time, so just hold station and see what happens. By which time it could be too late of course to turn things round again but the glass is half full people.
SmithyFox12 Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 First defeat of the season and you're crying? Absolute C U Next Tuesday.
