City Player Ratings v Charlton ?

Recommended Posts

Schemiechel 8 - World class save kept us in the game second half, another great save, but struggled a bit against their set plays

De Laet 5 - Not his best game, didn't offer anything in particular, and lost Morrison for their first goal

Moore 7 - Looking more and more like a quality centre back

Morgan 7 - Usual

Miquel 6 - Can play a bit, but also looked vulnerable at times, ridiculous free kick led to a free kick and then the corner from which they scored

Schlupp 5 - Struggled

James 5 - Like all the midfielders didn't have a great game before sending off

King 5 - Not his best game

Drinkwater 6 - Give him an extra bit for getting in the box to score, and played ok first half, but tailed off in second

Vardy 7 - Tough to play up front in the system, but he really worked hard, got a decent assist, and it was a surprise he was subbed

Nugent 4 - Terrible

Subs, Knocky 6 tried to make things happen, Wood and Dyer 5 neither got into the game

Putting this as a 5-3-2 cos that's what it was, depressingly negative.

Kasper - 6 - Would have been a 4 but for some magnificent saves, he's dreadful from crosses.

RDL - 6 - Ineffective.

Moore - 6 - Did quite well, poor distribution.

Morgan - 7 (MOTM) - Solid, played well.

Miquel - 6 - See Moore.

Schlupp - 5 - Did nothing, offered us nothing.

King - 7 - Played well.

Drinkwater - 6 - Didn't do a lot except a well taken goal, cupped his ear again.

James - 5 - Did alright, stupid to give dissent when already booked, despite the fact his first wasn't a booking.

Vardy - 6 - Worked hard, didn't contribute much.

Nugent - 6 - Same as above.

Knockaert - 7- Tried to make things happen.

Dyer - 6 - Same as Knockaert with less effect.

Wood - Won a few flick ons.

Schmeichel - 6 - Should have dealt with the first goal, got crowded out for the second (maybe fouled). However, made a couple of quality saves afterwards.

Moore - 7 - Really matured this season. Solid performance

Morgan - 7.5 - Glad to see him back, adds a level of steel to our defence. Didnt get beat all afternoon

Miquel - 6.5 - Often sloppy with the ball, and didn't look convincing to me

De Laet - 6 - Didnt really get going at all today

Schlupp - 6 - Fail to see where he made an impact today

Drinkwater - 6.5 - Took his goal well, moved the ball fairly well, but was one of the main culprits of the slow play in the 1st half.

James - 5 - Wasn't having a bad game, but lost marks for his stupidity in the way he approached the referee for the sending off. (He was fouled, and had a point, but went the wrong way about it)

King - 5.5 - Almost the return of the missing man Andy King at times. Some nice touches here and there, but didn't make a major impact

Nugent - 6 - Touch was missing again, worked hard, but lacked that quality in the final third.

Vardy - 6.5 - Started very brightly and work rate is immense, but didn't get any service to make an impact. Great dribble and cross for the goal.

Subs

Knockaert - 6.5 - Played in between the lines well, and looked to try and create something but never created anything clear up or make a major impact

Dyer - 5.5 - Went on at left back and had no impact at all. Maybe not his fault as deployed a lot deeper than normal and this wasted his main asset

Wood - 6 - Added a presense up front, but didn't give anything of major note.

Kasper 7 - made one world class save and another few to keep it respectable. He thinks he was fouled for the second, so give him the benefit of the doubt with that. But he should've at least came out for the first. People can't slate him for not coming for the first and then slate him for actually coming for the second.

De Laet 5 - A shadow of last season. Struggling without having someone to overlap. Seems short a yard of pace still yet.

Schlupp 5 - Didn't have a hell of a lot to do, but didn't get forward enough and when he did nothing came of it.

Miquel 5 - Initial foul lead to the free kick, that went on to go out for the corner. Needless challenge really. Sloppy on the ball for someone who has came through an Arsenal academy but he did improve as the game went on.

Moore 7 - His vast improvement continues. Someone that can now be deemed as a reliable defender in this league. Bombed on when he could, tried clattering Yann as well.

Morgan 8 - Solid as you'd expect. Won pretty much every single challenge, destroying Yann in one of them. Seemed to take a knock late on but just got on with it.

Drinkwater 6 - Got us back in it with a decent finish, and was the pick of the midfielders. Wasn't helped with the lack of width meaning he had to go backwards or sideways most of the time. Getting very annoyed with his petty ear culling goal celebration, didn't do it when he missed his one on one.

James 5 - In reality it was a harsh sending off. His first booking was very harsh, considering they got away with a very similar one. But, with a petulant ref and being on a booking it was silly to do what he did, but he'll learn from it. He was obviously very annoyed about something. Someone mentioned a handball from them. Everythjng happened so quick so I'll have to watch again.

King 5 - Seemed to bottle a few challenges today which is unusual. Other than a few tidy defensive clearances it was a pretty muted performance.

Vardy 6 - Was living on scraps today, spent most of his time chasing pointless long balls on a road to nowhere.

Nuge 6 - Always wanted to get involved even if it seemed his head was elsewhere, like Vardy had little service.

Knocky 6 - Yet again, we looked better when he came on but it was when we were down to ten. Found space very hard to come by but was always trying to find a way through.

Wood 6 - Looked fired up and determined when he came on, but with most of the ball being hoofed to him again he couldn't do all that much.

Dyer 5 - No impact on the game.

Schmeichel 8 - Made 2, possibly 3 world class saves. Unfortunately the ref didn't protect him at all which led to both of their goals.

De Laet 5 - Very poor. Gave us no width, scared to take his man on and looked vulnerable when taken on. Disappointing.

Moore 7 - Won almost every duel he had but distribution was poor, the whole point of having a back 3 is that the centre backs are allowed to carry the ball!

Morgan 7 - As above.

Miquel 7 - Very impressed with the lad. Good touch, classy on the ball. Much better option than Whitbread and an improvement on Keane imo. Time will tell.

Schlupp 7 - Defensively sound and did well on the ball without doing much of note attacking wise. Surprised he was subbed.

Drinkwater 5.5 - Captain slow.

James 6 - Just like at Derby, hampered by an early yellow card that should never have been.

King 5 - Anonymous

Vardy 7 - Good again. Very good work to set up Drinkwater and another cracking run from nothing to put Drinkwater in one on one which was saved. Always looked lively.

Nugent 5 - Back to his usual self. I really don't get why our fans rate him so highly.

Ref - ****

Schemiechel 6 - Made some good saves but I think he should have been more dominating for the goals, although Church was just stood in front of him,

De Laet 5

Morgan 7 - Man of the match - Solid at the back and did well in attack as well.

Moore 6

Miquel 6

Schlupp 5

James 5 - Shouldn't have been booked for his first 'foul'

King 6

Drinkwater 6 - Maybe should have scored before he did if I'm being very critical

Vardy 7 - Caused a few problems, shouldn't have been subbed imo

Nugent 5 - Worst I've seen him for a while

Thought miquel did alright today tbh, not as good as moore and Morgan obviously but has potential and didn't get done in too many physical battles as people would stereotypically expect from a spanish centre back although he did miss a fair few headers at the back.

Our problem I thought was that our wing backs didn't want to run at the charlton defence incase they got caught out of position, which effectively left us with less width down the wings, meaning we had to play through the middle where there weren't enough options etc.

However our failure to defend set peices has nothing to do with our formation whatsoever.

Schemiechel 7- some absolute class saves but his hoofing too quickly does piss me off

De Laet 5- just couldnt get going

Morgan 8 - MOM- beast and clattered twatty yann

Moore 5- 1st half ok 2nd half going forward wasted possession in good crossing positions

Miquel 7 - i thought he did alright - closed down well

Schlupp 5 - didnt get into the game as he's not a wingback either

James 6 - before he got sent off he was looking ok - still can't get my head round his sending off!

King 6- did ok but look knackered in the end

Drinkwater 5 - even though he scored - he NEVER looks fricking forward for a pass so frustrating

Vardy 6- no support made some good runs

Nugent 5 - made a couple of good runs but didnt get the service

Knocky 6- looked lively no end product

Wood 5- couldn't get on the end of any balls

Dyer 5- looked lively in the last 10 mins but again no end product

Pearson 5- 3-5-2 looked obvious in the first 20 mins that we had no width whatsoever - should of changed to 4-4-2 for 2nd half but James sending off ****ed that up!

Ref 0 - absolute disgusting performance and the FA have the cheek to say respect the ref! not after that - pretty much every decision against us was wrong - Shakey at the end summed up all our feelings

If Drinky hasn't got a forward pass on which 85/90% of the time today was the case, would you rather him keep the ball or lose it?

Again, the worry for me is Father Ted's description of 'anonymous' for Andy King.

He's the fulcrum of the central midfield, in the words of Fleckney Mike, our 'best player'. He cannot be 'anonymous' in any game. If King is as good as most people think he is, this just will not do. Home and away, Andy King must run that midfield area, or at least be influential every time he plays.
