Sharpe's Fox Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 What's the point? You never know when the bad weather will come anyway. Could be early December or late February. Football on Boxing and New Year's Day is a triumph.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 Absolutely not, Boxing Day games are the greatest. And I love a cold match with a hot Bovril
NewburyFox Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 I think local derbies should be played on Boxing Day. Local games, fans get home quicker etc Lincoln do that. They play Grimsby on Boxing Day and on New Years Day every year. It's become a tradition now, and it certainly makes sense as it draws in the biggest crowd of the season.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 I think local derbies should be played on Boxing Day. Local games, fans get home quicker etc Hinckley aren't in the Championship though.
Fox92 Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 Hinckley aren't in the Championship though. I meant local game, not necessarily a local derby. It would be better than Southampton having to travel to Sunderland, on boxing day or new years day, for example. Fans attend local games, it's easier for them and the players. It would probably draw bigger crowds as well.
Bert Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 No. Football around Christmas and New year is fantastic.
Finnegan Posted 4 September 2013 Posted 4 September 2013 Lincoln do that. They play Grimsby on Boxing Day and on New Years Day every year. It's become a tradition now, and it certainly makes sense as it draws in the biggest crowd of the season. Happens in the Celtic League (rugby) too. I like it, nice idea, good for travel and makes the occasion a bit more special. Plus I'd wet myself if the league pit us with Forest and left Derby out of the "East Midlands Derby." Which, actually, would be quite possible, given someone would need to keep Leeds company.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 , given someone would need to keep Leeds company. Barnsley.
Guest MattP Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 Have to send Leeds around every club I think year by year They are the football equivilent of the drunken, foul mouthed live alone uncle that every family has that gets tossed around each brother/sister year by year and you sigh and know Christmas is ruined that year when it's your turn to have him. Or just give Leeds and Millwall a bye that week to be caught up later in the year while the other 22 sides play each other.
Richard Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 Every year the fixtures come out you check 1st game of the season, last game of the season and boxing day. It's a no from me, boxing day games are always that bit more special
Captain... Posted 5 September 2013 Posted 5 September 2013 A big no from me, I would rather lose the league cup and see the number of the teams reduced in the league first.
Finnegan Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Barnsley. Barnsley - Huddersfield? This is quite a good game, actually. Match up the 24 teams as best you can!
Corky Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Barnsley would be with Sheffield Wednesday surely, and Leeds with Huddersfield?
Alf Bentley Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 NO!!! There should be 2 summer breaks, though: 1) Stop playing football so early in August, so we can pay proper attention to the cricket 2) Break Sepp Blatter's legs and throw him into the Qatari desert in mid-summer with no water bottle

foxfanazer Posted 12 September 2013 Posted 12 September 2013 Absolutely not! The international break is frustrating enough thanks
hairy Posted 12 September 2013 Posted 12 September 2013 I cant see any tournament being over Christmas. I just cant see the Christian church parts of the world being at all happy with having to compete with live football at the time of year. But it would be interesting to see if Blatter listened to the Pope as he only seems to listen if he can get $ per word. So Boxing day should be safe.
