justfoxes Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Gordon Taylor, the chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association, has thrown his support behind Football Association chairman Greg Dyke's call for urgent change to help the England team and wants to see quotas of at least four "homegrown" players in clubs' starting XIs. We should have done this 10 years ago like some of Europe's other football hierarchy that way our home grown youngsters could have been given more of a chance to shine other than being shipped off and denting there confidence and not reaching their potential ! Mind you the archaic FA are well behind in everything else football even the supplying of totally crap referees who have no clues of how to officiate and the crap FA who dish out trumped up crap charges to players and managers who try to reason with these egotistical officials !! God knows how long it will take is to sort out the England squad but it's about time Bert,Ernie,Kermit and the rest of the muppets at the FA opened their eyes and took a look at the state of our national squad and the diabolically poor officials they dish out and send to clubs to so called officiate football matches !
purpleronnie Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Now just to implement it........no chance.
hairy Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 I blame Rupert Murdoch and all those who have Sky TV.
tomtom Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 I'd go further! I'd change the term "homegrown" too, you should have to be eligible to play for any of the home nations not just have been in the youth system for 3 years like it currently is The top academy' s are full of foreign kids and these could be classed as homegrown if they've been there long enough

MattyFromLE Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 The thing that really angers me - is this guy has come in and practically stated the obvious. We all saw this happening 10/15 years ago, when Chelsea were full of Italians etc. No wonder teams like Hinckley and Kettering are going bust, big clubs aren't scouting in England's lower divisions because they can find someone twice as cheap with better skills abroad - English clubs needs to spend money in England on homegrown talent more than they have. Newcastle United had ONE, yes ONE english player in their WHOLE matchday squad at the weekend...
Jace Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 I always think the excuse of there is too many foreign players is a bit of a lame excuse, how does our players playing week in week out with the best players in the World in the Premiership make us play worse? Spain are World Champions and they have plenty of foreign players in La Liga. When it comes down to it our players just quite simply not good enough yet we are not far off though
Guest shearfox Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 This will help but don't the top clubs just stick foreigners in their academies now... we need to restructure our game from the ground up, stop going for the big strong hoof ball kids and go for the more technically gifted kids would be a start.

They have foreigners, sure, but they have a lot of Spanish talent plahying in that league too.

We have one of the worst percentages when it comes to U21 players playing in the premier league... It is bad

LDS Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 didn't the FA have a rule where you can't have any more than 7 foreign players in the starting line up (and bench)?
Captain... Spain are World Champions and they have plenty of foreign players in La Liga. When it comes down to it our players just quite simply not good enough yet we are not far off though Too many average foreign players, is the problem, no problem with the likes of Aguero, Van Persie, Ozil playing in the prem, it is the average, but cheap foreign imports that are the problem. Especially at the top clubs, Jon Obi Mikel being the prime example of a shit player getting played so much at one of the best clubs at the expense of a young English talent, when you think of Chelsea having the likes of Scott Sinclair, Scott Parker, Steve Sidwell, Shaun Wright Phillips, all players whose careers went backwards at Chelsea. Just look at the squads, in each team you've got plenty of no name foreigners who are taking the place of young English academy products. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2412068/Premier-League-squads-25-man-lists-team.html Park, Chu Young Kozak, Libor Gueye, Magaye Serigne Falilou Dit Nelson Bolasie, Yannick Amorebieta Mardaras, Fernando Gabr Who the fvck are any of these players?
Captain... Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 I honestly see the transfer window as being one of the biggest problems, clubs stack their squads to deal with injuries, loss of form or tactical changes in between windows so they need at least 2 players in each position capable of coming in and playing without weakening the first team, much cheaper to do that with foreign imports. Back in the day you had a couple of injuries you drafted in a youngster and gave him his chance, if a more long term replacement was needed you went out and bought one.
sylofox Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 My first love is LCFC yes would love my country to win the world cup. But like I'd give a toss if our squad was full of europeans and south americans if we pissed this league. Then sat top of the prem playing in the champions league. Very easy to sit where we are and moan but if we were top of the prem most would not care. Also someone said home nations players sorry english league english players.
Dan Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 I think the short answer really - there's far too much money in it for it's own good. The PL has that much more money than every other league in the world that it's become so complacent in general, because it can get away with it.

One problem in our game MONEY or the lack of it. Too much money at the top and too much to loose if you drop out.
Captain... Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 I beg to differ. One problem in our game MONEY or the lack of it. Too much money at the top and too much to loose if you drop out. But it works out the same, with a transfer window big clubs with money fill their squads with surplus players, average foreigners happy to earn lots and sit on the bench, and often don't lose their spot in the national side as they are at a big club, but go backwards in terms of actual development, look at Antonio Valencia, he hasn't improved at United, but will always get in his national team even at the biggest clubs English players are too expensive just to have bench warming, but when they do the same thing happens. Young foreign imports are always a much better gamble as they are so much cheaper. Without a transfer window, they would have a smaller squad and if they need to improve it just splash the cash at any point in the season. Teams regardless of money, would have less bench warmers so more chance of an academy product breaking through, and less of a chance of having an English player bench warming. The number of English players at premier league clubs is very low, but even worse is the number actually starting for their clubs. I do look at Scott Sinclair and think what a waste was never going to breakthrough at Chelsea, went to Swansea, was a star, on the verge of an England call up, went to Man City and just disappeared. making 3 starts among a meagre 15 appearances for the club.[44] In total, he played 190 minutes of league football, less than three full matches. Whatever the problem is that pretty much sums it up.
MrSpaM Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 They should make you have four players from your city in the squad.
Jace Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 Spain also have more top players playing abroad than we have English players playing abroad, Brazil have had this problem for years aswell with many of their top players playing in Europe do we consider this an advantage that we have over them then? If this was the other way round we would be using this as an excuse
AyewJoking Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 if you are good enough, you will still make it. Look at Bale, Walcott, Wilshere, Waghorn......................................
Guest shearfox Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 if you are good enough, you will still make it. Look at Bale, Walcott, Wilshere, Waghorn...................................... Not true someone mentioned Scott Sinclair, had an outstanding season for Swansea signed for Man City but doesn't get a look in...
AyewJoking Posted 6 September 2013 Posted 6 September 2013 he made it at swansea. up to him if he wants to get a fortune but never play.
