whoareyaaa Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 yeah. The teams that top the groups will play a team that finished second in another group Thought so, will be interesting to see who we draw.
broughtonblue Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 Anyone saying Cole should be dropped needs to give their heads a wobble. He is easily in the top 3 left backs in the world. Baines is very good, but he isn't as solid as Cole, i think he is more of a left winger IMO. Problem is with Cole is people don't like him because he is an utter cvnt off the pitch, if he was a decent bloke he would be idolised in the same way as David Beckham.Cole left back, Baines left mid? Think this could work, if cole ventures forward we would still have quality cover at left back for him
Uncle Albert Posted 16 October 2013 Author Posted 16 October 2013 Anyone know roughly what date in November the Germany friendly will be? Very tempted to use my last 2 days holiday at work on this! Think it will be either November the 15th or 19th mate, same dates as the play off games.
Fox92 Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 In the past 10 years Ashley Cole has been our best/most consistent player. I agree he does come across as a bit of a tit but on the pitch he is fantastic. I'd say he's probably the best left back I've ever seen I don't think he comes across as anything like that, I just think he's one of those people that the media hate/always pick on, influencing people that read the story. He's a great left back, which matters, easily one of the greatest in my life.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 Thought so, will be interesting to see who we draw. Be interesting to see the seeding, if you go off FIFA ranking alone Uruaguay (should they see off Jordan) Colombia and Belgium will all receive a top seed. Uruguay got the the Semis of the last tournament so they'd defo be top seeded. Our two wins should see us climb comfortabley in the top 16 and into the 2nd pot. Looks like France, should they negotiate the play off, will be in pot 3 at best, given their horrendous World Cup in 2010 and their current ranking of 25th. So theoretically we could get a group that looks like Brazil England France Nigeria

Manwell Pablo Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 How the actual **** are Switzerland top seed? I don't think it's quite as guaranteed as Alex makes out, just because their ranked in the top 8 doesn't guarantee you a top seeding. For example I should imagine the Dutch will get a seeding instead of someone in the top 8 due to previous finals performance. I also don't see how their latest two results are going to take them from 14th to above Italy in forth but there we are.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 Oh dear. But on the flip side at the moment you could theoretically end up with something like. Switzerland England Japan New Zealand

I'm pretty sure we will get out of the groups but I think we should be setting up similar to the last 2 games in terms of attacking threat.
Guest MattP Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 How the actual **** are Switzerland top seed? Exactly what I'm thinking. The top 8 should be Spain Holland Germany Brazil Argentina Uruguay Italy Colombia. No idea how the Swiss are even being mentioned.

marko Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 Uruguay haven't even qualified have they. No. I was just going to pull this up as well. It was even possible that they might not have qualified for the playoffs.
Alexikokopops Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 Australia have been invited to play at Wembley next month, but with OZ not having a manager, they are yet to confirm they want the game. Mind you, no-one in their right mind is going to turn down a chance to play against England at Wembley....are they? .....and 3-0.... i think you are being a little kind there....last week lost 6-0 to Brazil, 2 days ago....... lost 6-0 to France.......... (managed a scrappy 3-0 over Canada today) and no manager . An aging team and some disharmony. Ohh and England in Rio YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to the Canada game with some Aussie friends last night. Spent a lot of the 90 minutes laying into Carney - they were at the 2011 Asia Cup final and are still bitter
Uncle Albert Posted 16 October 2013 Author Posted 16 October 2013 http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1584307/switzerland-seeded-world-cup-draw-sweden-woe?cc=5739 Explains it all here why Switzerland will definitely be top seeds at the World Cup. If Uruguay fail to beat Jordan then Holland will have their spot. I think.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 Just rejoined Englandfans for some reason. Sounds like we could have warm ups in miami and washington. Typical.
MC Prussian Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 How the actual **** are Switzerland top seed? If I'm not mistaken, the seedings are based on the FIFA rankings and those in return reflect the status as of 17th of October. Switzerland have not lost their last 14 competitive matches. You may argue about the strength of the countries we've played against, but 14 unbeaten is 14 unbeaten still. It's a similar case with Belgium who have also performed really well over the course of the past few months and are now in the FIFA Top Six.
Beliall Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 But on the flip side at the moment you could theoretically end up with something like. Switzerland England Japan New Zealand thats probably a harder group knowing england
Guest MattP Posted 16 October 2013 Posted 16 October 2013 Uruguay haven't even qualified have they. Assuming they beat Jordan, which let's be honest they are going to.

Holland have cruised through their group winning 9 and drawing one, after last time where they qualified winning 9 and losing 1. In between that they lost in World Cup final last time out and they get shunted to the 2nd pot for Switzerland because a man in a suit has decided to rank the Swiss higher? It's crazy.

Yes but you can **** off with that as we've not lost in 22 odd competitive matches, dating back to the last world cup including two visits to Ukraine.......yet we're 17th......makes no sense at all.

I can understand France's stance when it comes to the qualifying stages and points awarded per game. Nations competing in a group of five thus have less points to play for than other countries in groups of six nations: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/oct/14/france-world-cup-seeding-ranking It already starts there.

If I was you just I'd just take your seeding and run with it, no point trying to justify it in any way as no one from outside Switzerland will hold the belief it's fair or earned.

Tell that to Brazil who - thanks to being limited to friendlies only - are down to 22nd. If you want a list where things are still the way they ought to be, the World Football Elo rankings will do you the world of good. http://www.eloratings.net/world.html
