January19th1974 Posted 22 October 2013 Posted 22 October 2013 To answer Hairy's question 'How do we know it was for standing and nothing else' here is the answer: It was my son, a supporter for 22 years, who was ejected for persistent standing. Nothing else. It appears N block has been targeted by the club as they do not like the idea of another standing area developing, especially in the Family Stand. I will be there on Saturday, my son will not. He has a 3 match ban. No refunds. Discuss.

Guest Bilo Posted 22 October 2013 Posted 22 October 2013 It's not that simple though, is it Col? There is no standing area in the King Power Stadium. Apart from Huish Park, there is no standing area anywhere in the top two tiers due to legislation that tackled a 1980s problem with a 1990s solution. If we ostracise and successfully bar all standing fans from the top two divisions; you're effectively destroying any remnant of an atmosphere, taking a hammer blow to away support and slicing thousands from every attendance. The reality is that the KP, without anybody standing at all, would have 17,000-18,000 rattling around inside with next to no noise bar groaning from every misplaced pass. Football cannot afford to ignore those who wish to stand, to suggest it can is dangerous.
Guest Col city fan Posted 22 October 2013 Posted 22 October 2013 I like your posts Bilo, as you know, but really think about it mate. People are paying a few hundred quid for their season tickets, not cheap you would agree. Now if people are paying, expecting to sit and watch a football match, like myself (cos I'm older with a dodgy back), how can it then be right for anyone to think they could stand up in front of me? That would force me to stand too, which I don't want to do now. That can't be right.... No, the only way to rectify this issue is to have separate areas for people who want to sit and for those who want to stand. That's fair, right and proper. HOWEVER, until that day comes, if it comes, then people should abide by whatever rules are in place at present. I can think of lots of people... Older fellas, kids, women in some cases, who might want to sit at games of football. To be forced to stand, simply because someone had chosen to stand in front of you is no better than forcing people to sit IMO. It needs sorting, but it needs sorting properly to benefit and be fair to everyone going down to the KP.

Did you attend any meeting or complain to anyone? The big question is will you be standing this Saturday...

It needs sorting, but it needs sorting properly to benefit and be fair to everyone going down to the KP. You've the argument to yourself mate. I also believe knowingly standing in front of people who wish to sit is selfish. However; I do feel it should be pointed out that, apart from L1, the standers deliberately find empty seats at the back and work their way forwards only if their numbers increase. The standers in N Block do so, the Fosse Boys did so and so too do the singing section in SK1. This is precisely because they don't want to stand in front of fans who wish to sit, and this is a point I feel is far too frequently overlooked. If a bunch of fans were to pitch up on Row A of the West Stand and expect everyone around them to stand, it'd be totally selfish. They aren't doing that. They're either going as far out of the way of other fans as they can in N Block, buying tickets in existing areas where standing is commonplace such as K or finding sparsely populated areas of the ground such as SK1. If the current arrangements were actually fair to all parties, this situation simply would not arise. I've already said that we can't ignore fans who wish to stand, especially in a climate where 90% of fans support the choice to sit or stand, so I think a bit of compromise should be had. The standers compromise by going as far to the back of the stand as possible, that so far as I'm concerned is sufficient.
5waller5 Posted 22 October 2013 Posted 22 October 2013 Fair enough. Doesn't want his kid exposed to constant swearing. I agree. But did not like the way he made his point. And his point, is based on incorrect analysis of what actually goes on in N block. Yes there is the odd swear word and apologies the odd one has slipped out by yours truly. But as stated eloquently by few others on this thread, the amount of swearing is grossly exaggerated as many of us in N block are very conscious of the youngsters in front of us. We are indeed looking to create a bit of an atmosphere and enjoy a bit of banter with the opposition without that bloody drum. Yes I hate the sanitised version of the game that is generated by clubs like ours. And if you ask me if I preferred the way things were undoubtedly I would say yes (don't jump down my throat I don't mean hooliganism). Grown up enough for you. That's grown up enough for me!! I've been in the family stand 3 times ... every single time I've been astonished that there's a few idiots seemingly revelling in the fact that they look hard in front of the 10 year olds by hurling a foul mouthed barrage of abuse ... either at a player or the ref ... and seemingly doing it as a total over reaction to the actual events in front of them. I don't mind the odd swear word, and I'm not talking about that ... this is the real world and in the real world kids hear some swearing. I'm talking about the idiot that "entertains" the 14 years olds around him by shouting a volley of abuse that's just cringeworthy. It actually seems that they feel safe to be such a knob in the family stand and wouldn't have the bottle to do it anywhere else. Every time i've been in the stand I've thought how awful the experience is in there compared to everywhere else in the ground. That includes Director's boxes, corporates, KOP or J/K block .... I've been in them all and find the family stand to actually have the least family friendly atmosphere. And yes I prefer the football grounds of old. An idiot would have been challenged in those grounds and told to shut his foul mouth around kids.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 22 October 2013 Posted 22 October 2013 This idea that standing and signing = incessant swearing is nonsense to be honest. When You're Smiling We Love You Our Boys in Blue EIEIEIO, Up the Football League we go Leicester, Leicester Those five must be the most common songs in the Family Stand and there is not a single expletive in any of them. I can't help thinking that a lot of what is being said is stereotyping of fans who stand and sing by those who don't, which seems rather hypocritical when you consider the latter are the first to get their knickers in a twist when stereotyped themselves as the 'flask army' etc. "Flask army" eh. That says it all. They must be really be a bunch of trouble makers. There is no place in football for this type of person. No swearing and sitting in their seats no doubt. Chuck em out for behaving in this way.

I'm talking about the first half of the book, obviously.

I will be there on Saturday, my son will not. He has a 3 match ban. No refunds. Discuss. I feared this would be the result with the standing attempts in N1. The club clearly don't want this to happen, which makes no sense to me because you're all clearly standing from the back down, not blocking the view of sitting fans. It's harsh for your son to be treated like this. I moved from the family stand to K1 2 years ago because the atmosphere was rubbish there most of the time. A few times this season we could hear the singers in N1 quite loudly and could've been a big help for the atmosphere. With your small group leading the way I reckon the family stand would've got more involved with the singing. The people I know who are still in the family stand have said nothing about excessive swearing, aggression etc since the group started this season.

Manwell Pablo Posted 22 October 2013 Posted 22 October 2013 Find this hard to believe I was ejected for standing up at half time about what must be 5 or 6 seasons ago now at least against Watford when we beat them 4-1, best thing was I wasn't even standing I was leaning against the back of the stadium. on the back row, in the kop. It happens, mainly on the odd weeks the club try and make an example of people. One thing I don't get about it is people call the club a joke, persistent standing is against regulations in all all seater stadiums, they don't make the rules.
LCFC FOX Posted 22 October 2013 Author Posted 22 October 2013 Would love some sort of a little protest, even something from L and K block to stand up and sing stand up if you Leicester or "stand up for the N1 boys"

I think the reason above sums up why this is said. They decide to make an example of somebody and once that happens; a supporter need only belch out of line and they'll be ejected, banned for a period and forced to sign a behaviour contract. The appeals process is worthless too when you consider it's headed up by the man in charge of the 'example' process.

Or at hinckley united - he can do what the hell he wants there.
ACF Posted 22 October 2013 Posted 22 October 2013 If everyone who wanted to stand moved to one area and stood there, surely that would stop the club coming after you and would improve atmosphere. They're not going to stop everyone from L1 and N and K if they're in one section. And why does t have to be next to the away fans? I thought the idea was to support Leicester not bait the opposition.
lestajigs Posted 22 October 2013 Posted 22 October 2013 what about L block, I will be going down tomorrow but I'm guessing a lot of tickets in K block would have already been for general sale for this Saturday mind L1 is st holders only, yea k is normally about full about now for Saturday, you should be okay in j3 though
