Weather warning for Leicestershire as severe storm approaches

Recommended Posts

Cold, windy and raining here. Normal day really.

Feel for the people that have had it bad though. The gas explosion looks bad.

Couple of branches down in the park up my road and a load of leaves, but nothing major.

They were probably there last week.

A friend of mine has had some bad luck in the storm. He parked his car under some trees and they got blown over .

They all feckin well missed his car and he was furious as he  hoping to get the old jalopy  written off by the insurance and cash in . He had to tow it there too , now he's got to go and tow it back unscathed

lol

My lad drove up from Paris to see the game in Leicester and after I read this I sent him an email about the impending tempest. i was thinking he needed to get back home toute suite (notice the bi lingual there).

Anyway we chatted about the game this morning and about the storm; he said it wasn't any big deal which is confusing since you are near the coast aren't you?

Always comes across that the media do hype all this up. Just look at when it's snows. But then again, I suppose they do with everything because it's their job.

Not saying this severe storm won't happen, or anything like that, but the Country always seems in shock when we have a touch of severe weather approaching.

Had to laugh at the forecast earlier though for up here. It said 'Manchester will remain normal' - which I take means cold, rain and wind as usual lol

This.

More OTT and extreme predictions in Britain then.

Where's this 'storm' then? Yes it was raining heavy, yes it was windy but was there really need for a song and dance about it, It certainly wasn't 'severe'.

Besides raining? Wind? About normal weather for this time of year isn't it? Any more than usual - I don't think so really, certainly not round this area of the country like was being predicted anyway.

Nothing like over-egging things is there?!

A heatwave in the summer, storms now, i'm can't wait till people/media go into panic overload with the thought of snow. :banghead:

As for the people who post things on Facebook such as 'What the weather like then?', 'How are the roads?', 'Is it safe to leave my house?'...Look out the window, leave the house, bore the fuck of and maybe take a fucking risk for once in your life, stop being so bleeding lazy.

Normal if several deaths is normal I suppose. The met office did their job well. The media maybe went a bit ott because they had nothing much else to talk about. But clearly this was abnormal weather.

Drove home from work in Brentwood at 7am and it was bad.  All the way home there were things bouncing off the car and rubbish was strewn all over the streets.  Traffic was going at about 20mph all the ay home and at one point half of a trunk of tree blew off about 10 ft in front of me.  Must have been rotten though as it smashed like a piece of glass as it hit the road.  Also part of a tree had blown down and blocked the road. I had to get out and move it.  Lucky no one was underneath it when it hit otherwise it could have been carnage.

I saw numerous vehicles destroyed by falling trees today and that was on a short drive to work. Maybe 3 miles. Locally there were simply no train services at all, thousands of homes had no power. It could have been a lot worse but quite clearly it was severe and abnormal weather.

My in-laws live up the road in Hornchurch and they were out in their jim jams at 7am trying to secure a fence panel. It blew my mother-in-law off her feet. I shouldnt laugh but  lol

I think you'll find it's normal weather just further along the scale towards extreme. Raining camels would have been abnormal. and to be honest 4 deaths in a day is not much. more than that die on the roads in the UK everyday.

I'd say that the met office did their job well but exaggerated the storm as they always do now. I'm sure they'll be doing the same with another storm before the end of the year if not the end of the week.

So if back in October we witnessed a 'severe storm' how are people describing the storm the UK is current experiencing.

Like I was saying in October that was nothing, overracting again, this i'll agree is severe.

Yes, certainly seems like some of the coast has been hit hard. Saw some of it on the local news and have been following it on twitter. Hemsby lifeboat station has gone, apparently.

Yes it has AoWW and a cafe on beach road caister :(

Beinit hard round here but I guess you know that.

The big one is it did not breach the wall in yarmouth but they saying the morning tied could be bigger :(  :(  :(

That could finish hemsby :(  :(  :(  the beach went at the beggining of the summer.

And after the station a lot of low lying land is not good.

I drove down to brighton in the early hours of that monday morning. Whilst the sea down there was a sight to behold driving conditions weren't that bad. I'd definitely say my van felt much more precarious going down the M42 this morning.

Much of Lowestoft town centre is flooded, too. I've got friends who live on a houseboat at Oulton Broad. >_<

It might have moved when they wake up tomorrow morning.

Suppose this is closest thread to put this in as it would be wrong to put it in the amusing news thread.

Man taken to hospital after gale-force winds bring down 'feeling under the weather' hospital sign

A man was taken to hospital with head injuries after an NHS sign asking people if they were "feeling under the weather" was ripped down by violent winds and came crashing on top of him.

Gale-force winds pulled the heavy 15ft by 30ft NHS sign, which advised people to see their GP if they were feeling unwell, from the top of a building in Leicester yesterday afternoon.

First aider Nick Pridden was on the scene when the solid wooden board was blown on top of the unidentified man, believed to be aged in his 40s or 50s. He told The Leicester Mercury: "He'd gone into the chemist to tell them the sign was flapping about and came out to look at it with the owner.

"As the two of them were standing there it came down and hit him – it missed her by inches. She was very shaken afterwards and very lucky, too.

"He had a nasty gash on his head and was treated by paramedics and taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary."

The man's condition remains unknown.

The incident follows a series of freak weather events as stormy conditions continue to wreck havoc across Britain. Storms, floods and gales were followed by a slightly more unusual 'bog fire' in Borth bog, Aberystwyth this morning.
