should we strengthen in Jan?

Let me give you an example.

I like and rate Chris Burke.

Say we bought him for £2 mill, he played well and helped us get promotion. Even if we had signed him on a 3 yr contract, so what? We'd continue to pay his wages, sign someone better, then use him in the Prem as a squad player.

80 million for 2 million (plus wages)......

You do the math...

lol

Say we brought him for £2 mill, he came in and proved to be a pretty average Championship player, we fail to get promotion and we've thrown even more money we don't have at trying to get in to the Premier League. Sven did at least make it blindingly obvious to everyone that throwing money around and assuming that you're going to be promoted and that that will cover costs, is a very, very, silly move.

I do agree that we can't go out and buy proven Premier League quality players at the moment, but spending £2,000,000 on a winger who's almost 30 and would probably be on pretty hefty wages is not the kind of thing we need to do in January.

I knew you'd see this in a concrete way Mark.

I used Chris Burke as an example, though I do like him as a player. But just as an example.

To focus merely on the player mentioned is to miss the point.

That's the risk isn't it. Speculate to accumulate, stick or twist?

I'm glad I don't run a football club...

I think spending £2,000,000 on any player who doesn't basically guarantee promotion right now, taking our financial position into account, would be a big mistake.

No player guarantees promotion. As I said, that's the risk. Spending now on the right player COULD get us up. And end over ten years of playing in the Championship. But it might not too.

Stick or twist.. Fair enough, that's your shout. Personally, if what I thought the right player came along, I'd take that gamble.

Chris Burke is out of contract in the summer. He would cost no more than £500,000 this jan. A good player as we saw earlier this season. A win tommorow would pay for him, so a strong team tomorrow please.

Yes, something many on here have forgotten

Can't see any big signings in Jan, would expect any business to be loans instead. IMO that's a sensible balance of risk/reward to get us over the line if we maintain our position near the top.

If we splash the cash and fail then don't we get an FFP transfer embargo for the following season?

What constitutes 'splashing the cash'?

As far as I can see this season, all we've done is sold? Beckford, Marshall for example. Are you saying that none of that money is there to be used to replace them?

Genuine question as I really don't know?

If the club is serious about complying with FFP I think Beckford/Marshall and the loans out allowed us to get Hammond, Wasil and GTF. Would need Danns, Gallagher at least off the books in Jan to do any permanent  business

Which would make signing someone else, with a decent transfer fee and on decent wages even more of a gamble I guess. Would you take the gamble? The rewards are huge, like really huge. It's a tough one.

Sounds like it's either make or break for Leicester come May! Sadly i can see Nigel having to sell a few in January to balance the books and perhaps a small amount of the sales will go towards some new signings.

The players that i think will leave in January are Andy King!, Sean St Ledger, Neil Danns, Paul Konchesky! & Paul Gallagher. Unless we get promoted i think Wes, Nuge and Kasper will follow in the summer allow to leave on a free!

On one side, I wouldn't, the downside is just too big. What's done is done but the opening years of the new ownership were financially disastrous and with that massive debt still on the books now is not the time to go for broke - we just might go broke. If we do it, it's got to be on a relative shoestring.

However! The only way to clear that debt is to get to the prem, so maybe a few extra million now would save us from what might be a decade treading water in the championship with a massive debt around our necks, we might not be this close again for a good few seasons! The manager and half of the first team are out of contract in the summer as well.

Summing up, glad I'm not making the call either!

I was just popping in here to suggest Burke. Just the sort of player we could do with.

More concerned with the six regular 1st teamers who are out of contract in the summer,

Nugent

Dyer
Konchesky
Wasilewski
Morgan
Schmeichel
Taylor-Fletcher
St Ledger
if we get bids for them in January will the management be strong and reject the offers?

Out of that lot, I'm certain Taylor-Fletcher won't be here either if we're promoted or not.

Personally I wouldn't gamble, £1 million+ is a lot of money, things have changed with FFP, if we need some quality to get us over the line we there are good loan options out there, such as Michael Keane last season, Yakubu, Spearing from previous seasons. We can get someone in, who we could sign should we get promoted, or send back if we don't without risking FFP penalties.

Does anyone know if Shakey's mate at United left with Fergie? Hopefully NP or the DoF has learnt from the Kane loan last season not to put playing clauses in loan agreements, we don't want to be forced to play someone who is not required.

I wouldn't be worried about GTF or Was, they will get offered a contract if they prove themselves, nor would I be worried about SSL and Konch both can be replaced for cheaper and younger.

Dyer would only leave if he was surplus, Morgan is on NP wages and not a "big name" so we should be able to give him a wage raise to keep him.

Kasper and Nugent, would be disappointed to see them go, but if the do at least we will finally be playing only championship wages in the champ, I think Gallagher and Danns would be the only Sven wages left, and I can't see them still being here next season.

Please tell me your joking? Couldn't get in the Bayern Munich team above Ribery, Robben and Shaqiri so must be shit....

Wow! I know sarcasm is difficult to get in text but please tell me YOU are joking?! I don't think even the most deluded of fans would suggest that Leicester are better than the current European Champions!

But in all seriousness, Jennings is the kind of player that I would have gone for 2 years ago or even at the start of the season but he had a torrid time in Germany and it's so unlikely that he'd be able to make any kind of impact here especially as he has hardly featured for Barnsley and we want proven quality to help get us up, not future prospects.

Oh, and you forgot Muller, Thiago and Gotze

Just read on F365 that Chris Brunt has only played 120 minutes for WBA this season. Would take him in an instant.
