does nigel deserve a new contract?

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this thread has been created already, just wondering who thinks nigel should be rewarded with a new contract? I certainly do, he has had to get the wage bill down and not had a great deal to spend this season, and still made us compete as a top championship side, which we are. He clearly has the respect of the players and theres such a good spirit around the club, I for one would be over the moon should he get a new one.

Ooooh you've opened a can of worms here lol.

I'd be delihhted if he did, he's done a fantastic job.

Not just the results but trimmimg the wage bill, getting rid of the trouble causers and lazy fookers, bringing in young and hungry players with better sell on value and keeping hold of our key players.

No decision will be made now though. I still feel its promotion or no new contract in the owners eyes, would be a huge shame

I'm a Pearsonista.

However, I think no. In the same way I think a manager should be judged on a season if a team goes through a bad spell. I think a manager's achievement should be based on a season too.

I also have the feeling that this current good form maybe because Pearson has little to lose.

Would be absolutely delighted if we managed to tie him down for a few more years.

Yes. Absolutely.

One day he will enjoy the same legendary status as MON.

He's got a lot to do yet and to be honest too many teams now take the League Cup so seriously once it gets to the semis that it's unlikely we'll appear in 3 finals in such a short span of time again.

100% yes. Best side we've had in years, great team spirit, players who want to be here, wage bill trimmed.

If only we'd kept him first time around, we'd be a mid table Prem team by now I'm sure of it.

When does his current one expire?

Personally, I don't like these long contracts in football. What's the point in giving him a new contract for years if he doesn't take us up this year or does awfully once we're up?

It's fine if there are clauses/bonuses/options in place as contingency but obviously we don't know all those details.

I fear if we fail in our promotion bid then the owners will look for a fresh face and unfortunately all the good work on and off the field Pearson has built up during his second term in office could go up in smoke. We have a good, energetic squad at present with a good blend of youth and experience, with players really showing the true Leicester fighting spirit, no big time Charlie's disrupting the camp and a togetherness that shines through on the pitch.

So if we don't get promoted I hope the Thai's look at all of the good work Pearson and his backroom staff have done and rather than firing him for a second time, look at what could have been if they had retained him the first time and had given him the sort of budget Eriksson was granted. I sure if Pearson had stayed we may well already have been in the Prem!

Wait till the end of the season and see where we are and how we've played over the entire season.

If we gave him a new contract now and a Premier team came in for him the contract wouldn't be worth the paper it was wrutten on.

deffinetly, play offs seasons, league 1 title and going strong this year? deserves a new contract fully. been up there ever since nigel took over

As much as I'd love us to get promoted I think the owners should look at the bigger picture regarding Pearson. How he has maintained the level of performance and competitiveness whilst lowering the wage bill fairly drastically. He seems to have learnt his lesson from last season and the players seem to love playing for him.

We seem to have a plan and if we lose NP I feel we'd have to start again. That involves the new manager bringing in his owm players and the merry go round continues

The answer to the question is there.

We are a Championship club whose managers contract expires soon who would almost certainly be interesting people of a higher level.

Get him signed up.

Even if we didn't achieve promotion this year and say for example just missed out in the Play Offs he deserves a new contract. Personally I don't think we have seen the best of him I think if we achieved promotion he would be excellent as a manager for a team looking for survival in the Premiership

Why, he'd still leave should a decent Premier side come in for him this season, if we didn't go up he'd go should any premier side want him.

Judge him at the end of the season.

Compensation for a start.

I'd want him here for another season even if we don't go up this year. I think that would be the cut off for me.

A one year extension at this point should be offered regardless, with 2 drafts: one for Champ and one for Prem. Obviously they'd include relevant bonuses and such.

No good just flinging money at him at this point.

The compensation is minimal and what happens should we implode like we did last season, we'd then have to pay him compensation should we wish to teminate his contract.

If we keep this form up and start/continue to play decent football in the majority of games, both home and away then perhaps he could manage in the premier, currently I'm still to be convinced BUT I'm getting there.

Just can't get last seasons run out of my mind.

We need him to sign up for another 2 years if the owners have any idea of what he has done for the club since the Sven episode.

We also need him to stop beating Premiership sides in cup games, he's gonna create his own job vacancies at the rate!!

ok the rough patch last season was not great, but hey florist and watford was fun. The players now look like they want to play for him and put last season right.

Oh sod it I say let him walk his goats threw the mayors office.
