hackneyfox Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 No good just flinging money at him at this point. Agree
Leicester_Numan Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 I've always said he's done a fantastic job sorting out the post-Sven mess but the aim is promotion. If we fail to get promotion this season but come close, losing in the play offs, I'd feel he's just about earned a new one. If the wheels fall off again and we don't even make the play offs, that wouldn't be good enough for a new one as far as I'm concerned. Would all of you wanting to give him a new contract now be happy if that happened? How many of you would want him sacked? Don't let a good start and a great result against a Prem team override your common sense. Wait and see where we are come the end of the season and don't worry about Pearson leaving us for another club because he's nearly out of contract, if he's going to do that, he'll do it regardless of whether he has a contract or not.

Leicester_Numan Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 @StringerSport: I've spoken to Nigel Pearson about the contract situation of players & himself at #lcfc - Tune into 104.9fm at 1:30pm for details

Agree 100%, a long way to go in the season, getting some of the players signed up like Wes, Nugent and Kasper would be better, wait towards the end of the season on Nigel.
StanSP Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 No question he deserves one at the moment, but if we don't get promoted (!), it'll cost more for our owners if they want to get rid. So as much as he deserves on at the moment, I don't think the owners will be in a rush to offer him one until the future of the club is sorted out. He's done a fantastic job so far.

Fox92 Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 Would be absolutely delighted if we managed to tie him down for a few more years. Absolutely this. I'm a bit young to remember Martin, Europe and all that... So aside from Micky Adams (who I have respect for), this is as good as it has gotten since I got my first season ticket ten years ago. I really do respect Nige for what he has done here, I'd love him to be the man that takes us back to the Premier League. Under his guidance twice, we have been a consistent and solid side in this division... I do believe that a trip to Leicester away isn't as easy as what it used to be, and the days of finishing 16th/17th in this division are over (touch wood).
hackneyfox Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 Agree 100%, a long way to go in the season, getting some of the players signed up like Wes, Nugent and Kasper would be better, wait towards the end of the season on Nigel. Depends on whether or not NFP thinks they are premier class. Whatever is signed now will be based on us being in this division, it would need to be amended should we go up.
Babylon Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 Absolutely not: The players don't like his man management style, players want to leave and lots are unhappy. He fields weak teams in cup competitions. He will get us relegated (there are great odds if people are interested in a bet). He falls out with players like Mills and Beckford. He's stubborn. His trainers are shit. But seriously, not sure there is much point just yet.
Webbo Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 I should imagine negotiations will start just after Christmas with half a season left on his contract. The owners will assess the situation then.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 We can't really just wait til the end of the season as it leaves the whole club and players in limbo. I would suggest if we are still sitting comfortably in the top 6 in the new year he should be offered a deal. Remember Nigel is a proud man and last time when he didn't feel wanted at the club and wasn't offered a new contract he left.
FoxTrott Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 For Nige, I think a year extension with bonuses and other options, extensions, available if we go up. You don't want to do a Newcastle and lock yourself in for 6 years or whatever it is, as well as NP is doing at the moment. Also worried a lower PL team might snap him up if we don't give him a contract. This team has been built by NP - if we get another manager in, it could unbalance what seems a settled and solid squad at the moment. There has been little turmoil for a while, all the players Nigel has "fallen out" with have been dealt with. I just hope it is quietly sorted sooner or later, talk of this can be unsettling to the team.

Long term contracts are pointless at this stage
Leicester_Numan Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 There is nothing wrong with having a contract ready for him dependant on promotion, and another one dependant on at least coming close. Giving him one now would not be a good idea in case we crash in dramatic fashion and end up mid-table
Leicester_Numan Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 He'll have bugger all to say. That will probably be his answer because Stringer has irritated him again
indierich06 Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 I think it's too early in the season to think about offering him a new one yet, but if we're still going strong in the new year then I'd start thinking about opening contract talks with him if I were the owners. Even if we narrowly miss out on promotion and decide to get rid of him, the list of managers to replace him who we wouldn't have to pay compensation for is an extremely depressing one.
Happy Fox Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 I would wait till we are promoted then offer him one.
hackneyfox Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 the list of managers to replace him who we wouldn't have to pay compensation for is an extremely depressing one. What else do you expect at this stage of the season? Decent managers get signed up quickly, pretty sure that should it be known we were looking that a few decent managers would let it be known they could be approached. Paying compensation is what we'll have to expect to do.
davieG Posted 30 October 2013 Posted 30 October 2013 I'd imagine like some of the players he's on a lucrative contract sufficient to attract him here that impacts on FFP, if we're still in this league next year he'd probably have to take a pay cut along with the players if no one in the PL wants them.
