Guest Bilo Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 Another fantastic old terrace is lost to 'progress.'
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 I would have agreed that this was a shame up until last time we went there. A toilet block with a capacity of about 12 when there were 4,000 in the away end which lead to people openly pissing against the wall at the back of the stand, about 3 turnstiles for those 4,000 to get through which lead to a half an hour wait to get in the ground and people reporting crushes in certain sections of the terrace. I'm all for a terrace and standing but that had become unfit for purpose.

Corky Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 They have Wolves tomorrow, surely they'd wait until Wolves had visited, with their away following, before pulling it down?
Simmo86 Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 They have Wolves tomorrow, surely they'd wait until Wolves had visited, with their away following, before pulling it down? Don't think anybody has been in it all season.

GingerrrFox Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 I feel sorry for the bloke in those pictures. Look's like he's the only **** doing work on it.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 The away end has been shut all season, dont know why it has taken this long to even start work on it.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 Great fun wasn't it! No different to some gigs then That was old style and that is part of the fun. Wasn't really that much fun. Don't get me wrong, I love and terrace and I've not sat at a Leicester game home or away for about 5 years now but I'd rather have standing in a way that I don't have to queue up half an hour to get in and can go to the toilet without having to wait 10 minutes when bursting for a piss. There was loads of space behind that stand that they could have built a new toilets, a new wall and turnstiles and kept the terrace. If they're not willing to do that then knock it down and start again because it honestly wasn't worth the hassle last time and, nostalgia aside, I can't see why anyone could claim it was.
Donut Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 Why the sad faces people are posting? Ive stood on this terrace. And yes, the atmosphere on it has been brilliant. But people, come on. This is 2013. I for one would certainly rather watch a game in more modern surrounds than a 3 turnstile, piss soaked, one concourse, overcrowded, exclusive to children who probably find the whole ordeal uncomfortable terrace like this. If people can generate the atmosphere in places like this, they can do it in modern stadia too. Theres no reason they cant.
Bert Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 Good. It's a shit hole and a dangerous terrace too.
BHAFC Braders Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 Where do the away fans go then The Block to the right hand side I believe Shame really , seen some bloody good games from that terrace

There is a reason people can't do it in (some) modern stadia, it's because in all seaters people are often programmed to sit down. Terraces create a mentality among the group, that no amount of effort from each individual can create. I can sing my heart out al I want but if the people around me have seats to sit on, often they'll choose to, and they won't get involved. Anyway, I really wanted to go to Peterborough when we played them before. Now I probably won't bother.
Dan Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 Speaks volumes that they averaged the highest away gate in the Championship at their ground.
Harry - LCFC Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 How can people celebrate the loss of great terraces like that? All it needed was rail-seats to make it 100% safe.
Kitchandro Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 Good. It's a shit hole and a dangerous terrace too. Based on what? You're a little crammed in? Calm down Grandma!
Bert Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 Grandma? Sorry moany bollocks. It's unsafe for children, and small women who don't have the ability to protect themselves from being crushed during a surge, and just remember these people do go on the terrace so lets not say "well they could go and sit somewhere else" because evidently that didn't happen.

That's got nothing to do with the terrace being unsafe then has it? That's about certain women and children being two weak to stand in crowds. And as such, by your definition gigs are dangerous, walking to the ground is dangerous (have you seen Raw Dykes road after a big game?), and standing in an all seater away end is dangerous (I was next to an old woman at Blackpool and she was (happily) amongst the carnage after King's goal). Maybe there should be an age restriction on terraces/standing areas. If it was up to me I wouldn't let children under 12 even in a safe standing area - it's just asking for trouble. It's always been about common sense. People confuse lack of safety with being an idiot.

Why can't we say that? You can't just pass the blame onto someone else who isn't responsible for what happened. If people choose to go in the terrace that's their decision and they are responsible for the consequences of that decision - not someone else. If any children got injured then they have some very irresponsible parents given that the seating area wasn't full last season.
Donut Posted 29 November 2013 Posted 29 November 2013 The mere fact that there is the heightened potential for injury indicates that terraces are unsafe for starters. I really dont get it, im sorry. Im in the minority, and thats fine by me. Ive stood on terraces, ive sat down. My own personal opinion is that modern stadia are more conducive to an enjoyable matchday experience for the majority of people. You would never see a modern stadium that was so inadequate in virtually every facet. And for one, i think its a good thing.
