cambridgefox Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Got back only recently (live in cambridge) and that was simply the worst first half performance I have seen from us in a long long long time. I personally thought for the first few minutes of the first half we looked good (introduction of knocky) but after that it went flat until we brought Wood and GTF on (yes i know we scored before they came on). Anyone who says that GTF is a waste of a signing is a moron. He looked really good today, looked like nige game him a free role and he spread balls across and genuinely made us tick in attacking areas. I also noticed that our lack of form recently has coincided with a lack of form from drinky, coincidence i think not. That's all. Bring on Burnley. Whereabouts in the city of Cambridge.i could have given you a lift if I had known, had to pick the kids up in Fenstanton.
Riot Van Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Whereabouts in the city of Cambridge.i could have given you a lift if I had known, had to pick the kids up in Fenstanton. In cambourne pal, about 8 miles outside what about you?
cambridgefox Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 In cambourne pal, about 8 miles outside what about you?Sutton these days. That would have only been 8 or so miles out of my way from collecting the kids.
Callabinho Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Did any find Pearson's and Morgan's interviews interesting? Nigel sounded completely worn out, I've never heard him sound so deflated before, as for Morgan, Sussed out? Slightly alarming thing for your captain to say?
Riot Van Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Sutton these days. That would have only been 8 or so miles out of my way from collecting the kids. oh it's no problem, love a good train journey including 4 trains after a 3-1 defeat!
marbelladave Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Today was quite worrying because it was so similar to last season. We have been playing pretty well but a couple of poor results and we revert to the kind of negative 4-5-1 setups that so thoroughly fooked up last season. It is not just the formation, it is the cautious, hold your position, keep our shape style of play that we have seen before and with the same results. our fullbacks are not released quickly in transition, the wide men are 'tucked in' and concentrating so hard on their defensive duties they forget to get forward, leaving our midfield and defence with no options but to pass sideways or give it the hoof. Today we mostly resisted the hoof, but with no options our defence and midfield were closed down and either lost the ball in the tackle or gave it away trying to force a pass. All so obviously familiar. Last season when this started to happen we went even more defensive and just made things worse, be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks.

Except that it wasn't a 4-5-1. We never had two attacking midfielders on the pitch today. Pearson started with a 4-3-3, then reverted to a 4-4-2 in the second half, which made things a little bit better.
marbelladave Posted 8 December 2013 Posted 8 December 2013 Except that it wasn't a 4-5-1. We never had two attacking midfielders on the pitch today. Pearson started with a 4-3-3, then reverted to a 4-4-2 in the second half, which made things a little bit better. If you have Dyer, Drinkwater, King, Hammond and Vardy, in a line about 15 yards in front of the back 4 and Nugent 30 yards ahead on his own, that is 4-5-1. I was not behind the goal, I was in the main stand, sideways on, and it was plain as day. Rigid, negative with our supposed wide men tucked in and concentrating on defence. Sure we switched to 4-4-2 second half and after 10 minutes or so started to get on top. When King scored I thought we might do well and get at least a point but after the substitutions we lost momentum and let Brighton back in. A lack of composure at the back did the rest.......
ScouseFox Posted 8 December 2013 Posted 8 December 2013 Kingy's goal was boss. Knockaert is our best player and the fact he was dropped is just horrific. Drinkwater was a major flap artist in the build up to their second, completely bottled a 50/50 and they scored about 20 seconds later. Bullshit penalty decision. Pretty sure Knockaert was the most mentioned player in those FLS highlights on either side and he only played half the game. It amazes me that he isn't the first name on the team sheet. The only disappointing point Pearson-wise so far this season I reckon is his use of Knockaert. Maybe it'll pay off come March/April/May and he won't be tired etc but right now it's making Pearson look a bit silly. Never mind. Didn't expect anything today really. 1 point off top. On we go.
ScouseFox Posted 8 December 2013 Posted 8 December 2013 For me, Pearson should take a lot of the blame for today's performance. His team selection was terrible. We should have learnt our lesson from Tuesday night - where many things were learnt. Our back 4 needed changing, and most vulnerable there would have been Wasilewski. Wasyl has not had a pre-season and he's 33 so it was inevitable that sooner or later he should be rotated out of the side. He was arguably the weakest link on Tuesday where he had a poor game and looked very sloppy and tired. Unfortunately, he carried that in to today and it cost us 3 goals. To add insult to injury was Pearson's decision to move the tiring Wasyl to centre back and Morgan to right back towards the end - which ultimately cost us a penalty and totally killed the game off. Brighton would not have won that penalty if that switch wasn't made, Morgan's positioning was all wrong and Wasyl got his header all wrong too. Secondly, Pearson's decision to drop Knockaert amazes me. He was our only hope and bright spark on Tuesday night until he was 'TACTICALLY' substituted - go figure that one out. He should be the first player on the teamsheet, no matter what formation we play, we need to build our team around him and if we were to get promoted, which is the target, then Knockaert is a player who will hopefully stay with us for years and keep us up there and to build in the future. He is the best player in the Championship in my opinion and he's starts on the bench. Ludicrous. Did Pearson not learn his lesson on Friday night by playing Vardy wide right of a front 3? He didn't drag wide out enough and Wasyl would have no support going forward or backwards, same again today. We looked much more dangerous when Vardy was put up top and Nugent out wide as Vardy actually closes defenders down. As for Nuseless. He really is hopeless, mind you he scored 2 against Ipswich so I'd better keep my mouth shut, the Nugent lovers have a free reign over foxestalk for at least the next 3 months until he scores again. When's Burnley away? Isn't that another one of them grounds he scores at? That's your next hope boys. His touch is garbo, movement poor, work rate pathetic and finishing diabolical. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE SMILE GUYS. We'll beat Burnley. Good post. I've often considered putting you on ignore because (imo) most things you post are akin to the stuff that comes out my arsehole but agree here. Which makes you wonder if I even find myself agreeing with you re Tony K, what on earth is Pearson thinking?!
Father Ted Posted 8 December 2013 Posted 8 December 2013 Good post. I've often considered putting you on ignore because (imo) most things you post are akin to the stuff that comes out my arsehole but agree here. Which makes you wonder if I even find myself agreeing with you re Tony K, what on earth is Pearson thinking?! Miracles do happen! On a side note, I wish people would stop harpering on about these contract situations. I do wonder if it has began to unsettle the players and as Pearson has correctly said, they will all sort themselves out if the performances are there. For me, this is Stringer stirring the pot. Woo, 10,000th post, time to re-assess my life!
Matt Posted 8 December 2013 Posted 8 December 2013 Right, I was quite relaxed last night saying we need to see how we bounce back, we need to move on, e.t.c, but now i've had time to reflect the pessimist in me has surfaced. (Come on people admit it, i've been very positive over the past month, maybe more, you have to admit). Obviously we have to see how we react and see if we bounce back on Saturday before we hit the panic button but i'm slightly worried, I fear deja vu might be setting in and the wheels might be coming off with the run in we have, I fear this may be our blip and whilst there is never a good time to have a blip this is one of the most crucial parts of the season, with some of our most important games coming up. We have Brighton away on Saturday, before you know it we'll have Burnley next Saturday then Man City in the cup (Which would be nice to win, but lets focus on the league), then it's QPR, before you know it we're into the Christmas period, games coming thick and fast, January appears and god knows where we'll be. Whist it may not be 'must win' time of year I feel a win on Saturday is very important just to calm us again, settle us, good to bounce back, but I think it'll be very tough on Saturday, if we do lose Saturday alarm bells will be ringing in the distance. Like I said last night hopefully we'll write last night off, move on, bounce back but i'm cautious and fearful of our next 4 games. We can assess it more on Saturday night I guess. Right i'm not gonna say much, I'm not gonna say 'haha told you so' because there is nothing more than me wanting to be sat here celebrating a win, call me pessimist all you like but I think this is where our season goes south, I've enjoyed being top, now it's back to normality. Once again City, for another season, prove me wrong, I dare ya.
sylofox Posted 8 December 2013 Posted 8 December 2013 well at least youve confirmed what most on here would think regarding your motives. Well done Im pleased you have had a good day. Not having a go and don't agree with KF a lot but I think you have took it the wrong way he's not happy to be right. His point was Wasyl was not a right back and people called him an idiot. We all have points of view and if this was a pub the people that call people idiots would not do it. Easy on a keyboard I could call you a tw@ for your comments but I would not. Some of the abuse on here is laffable if it was face to face it would not happen. KF has some funny points of view at times like we all do and I don't know him but he is a City fan. He made his point and praps would have been happy (with out abuse to be proved wrong) But is having a laff back at people that abused him. (does that make him a bad person) willy puller he may be (joke) but he had a point of view whether right or wrong. Ps in leicester monday if anyone wants to tell me I'm a willy puller
ozvaldo Posted 8 December 2013 Posted 8 December 2013 Wes' positional play has been shit lately. He hasn't shown much fight or desire either. I'd expect a bit more from our captain. We seem to lack that level of grit and endeavour which other teams have shown against us. I wonder if things would be drastically knocked if Wes took a seat on the bench for a week? - Moore Was Iggy and Konch as a back 4 against Burnley?

Lcfc Jordan Posted 8 December 2013 Posted 8 December 2013 well over 150 pound spent in 5 days to see Leicester, 350 mile round trip to Sheffield, nearly 400 mile round trip to Brighton, both matches extremely poor, our first halves in both games have been disgusting, and in both second halves we have huffed and puffed but have just had no joy, only bright spark in both games was knocky and yet somehow he didnt start yesterday, defence as poor as ive seen all season, oh well we go again on saturday!!
Dan Posted 9 December 2013 Posted 9 December 2013 Absolutely horrific display from Leicester and it's the first time we've not bounced back from a failure to win, with three points. If anything, we were even worse. Tend to agree with the majority that the selection was horrific, cautious and defensive. We have never once played well with 4-3-3 because we don't have the players to do it - not buying that Wasilewski isn't a right back, he played there for years at Anderlecht. However, he is aging - you won't get away with him in a 4-3-3 where he's unprotected. It was a naive set-up to say the least. I think De Laet's about the only full back we have who'd get away with it in that system, even Moore isn't the quickest. Dean Hammond's starting to worry me a little. I've seen so little from him to convince me he's any good. Granted, he can tackle, better than any of our other midfielders - but he still doesn't really impose himself on a game. From a technical point of view he's a poor footballer. Not the sort of player I'd start. Taylor-Fletcher continues to look good every time I see him. I honestly wouldn't be against starting him against Burnley. Maybe he isn't the fittest, but I'd be very intrigued to see him and Vardy start, with Nugent maybe to come on - Nugent yet again didn't look good enough. The supply wasn't great, but that never used to stop him. I appreciate he's playing a slightly different role, but he isn't doing enough in front of goal for me. Overall, the worst performance of the season. No surprise that we were beaten as Brighton were comfortably the best side we've played this season, by an absolute distance. I'm amazed they're where they are and I'm amazed that Barnsley won there. It begs the question if it was them on a good day, or Leicester making them look better than they are - I'd say it's a bit of both. I do have to laugh at some of the over-reactions on here as usual though. I'm convinced we've the most fickle fanbase in England. Literally, 7 days ago you had people talking about going up - now there's talk of Pearson going, again? Seriously? Come on. Far, far too early to say any of that. We've bounced back far more often than not this year. The main lesson to learn - bin 4-3-3 off until we've got the players who can play it. We aren't one bit suited to it. If Pearson's learned that then I'll be happy. Made it very tough for ourselves (as usual) but I do think we'll beat Burnley.
marbelladave Posted 9 December 2013 Posted 9 December 2013 The next 5 Championship games are, for me, critical. All tough games in their way and how we handle them will be pivotal to our season. We are in a poor run, losing 3 in 5, so do we have the bottle to take it to the opposition in these games or will we use it as an excuse to consolidate and go on the defensive as we did on saturday? If we do set up cautiously then we will get turned over, we are hopeless when we try and sit and defend, whether from the start of after we go a couple of goals up. This was the problem last year and we need to make sure it is not the problem this, if we get to 2014 in the top 2 then we have a real chance of going up, get it wrong and it could be a struggle.
Silverdaz Posted 9 December 2013 Posted 9 December 2013 It was crazy to drop Knocky. Crikey this chaps not undroppable you know

Completely agree with this mind. If we go to QPR and completely fold I'll be fuming.
Dan Posted 9 December 2013 Posted 9 December 2013 Crikey this chaps not undroppable you know He isn't - but it's a mistake Pearson's made twice in a week. We hardly looked like scoring in the two halves that he wasn't on the pitch. He's easily our best attacker and I fear that one day we'll be looking and thinking... why were we not playing this lad...
Unabomber Posted 9 December 2013 Posted 9 December 2013 Crikey this chaps not undroppable you know I know, I am all for dropping him when he deserves to be dropped, but at the moment he is playing well and is by far our most dangerous player.
