Brighton 3 - 1 Leicester POST MATCH THREAD

Defence was shocking today, and seems from last season's defeat to Watford in the play offs, we still haven't learned how to defend against a counter attack.

I don't know why Liam Moore was dropped but he needs to be back in the team.

De Laet played some of the Under 21 match the other day and said afterwards he feels good and ready to play again, so he can't be far away from coming back too.

                                           Wood                         Vardy

                  Dyer              Drinkwater                   King              Knockaert

                Konchesky          Morgan               Moore                      De Laet

                                                      Schmeichel

Would be my team for the next match if everyone there is fit and good to go.

Very poor day at the office. Pearson's selection was all wrong and we obviously didn't turn up.

I'd be interested to hear what our travelling support says, but it sounds like we started very slowly and we usually struggle in that scenario. We are at our best when positive and at our worst when trying to sit back and soak up pressure. We didn't get out of the blocks and were beaten very quickly.

The second half was too little, too late. We need to start our best players. Just because we're playing away it doesn't mean we have to drop Knockaert and start poorer, physical footballers like Hammond. We need to be positive to win games, end of story. Like at Watford, for example.

Against Burnley we need to stick to what we've been doing at home.

4-4-2.

Put Knockaert back in from the start. Drop Hammond.

Bring Wood in for Nugent.

Make sure Wasilewski never plays at right back again. Bring Moore back into the starting line-up.

And at QPR, I want to see the same sort of thing. A positive starting line up, with some good footballers, flair players and our best back 4. I don't care if it's away, our best  chance is to play the best way we know how.

Nigel needs to learn a lesson from today. Sadly that is not one of his strengths. But it's the only way we can shake off these last 2 performances, so let's hope he does.

What is clear is that Pearson must set us up to look less susceptible away from home. This will make or break him. I said this last season and am saying it this.

Finally, we had King in the middle again today didn't we. And it made little, if any difference.

Not that losing was any individual's fault. Collectively we sounded very poor.

I said what I'd like to see. A bigger tougher bloke as a DM away from home. Anyway.. we move on

Before the season started, if offered this position at this stage of the season, you would have snapped someone's hand off...

All to play for.

Some serious changes needed for the visit of Burnley. The team, formation and set-up was a shambles today and Pearson should (he won't obviously) apologise for getting things clearly wrong, we went into an away game with such a negative stance and were punished for it, simple as that really.

The old phrase...attack is the best form of defence.

Wasilewski is a shit right-back, said it last Saturday, nobody listened, called me stupid and an idiot as per usual, yet I was right, because he has been terrible in the last three games.

Hammond is a boring signing, what did he do today, fook all!

Nugent despite Ipswich is still in pathetic form, atm I wouldn't be bothered if we didn't give him a new contract.

They did alright in parts of today's game, but there's major questions to answer about this team's mental state, and the way they handle pressure, two back to back losses is very poor.

I get called an idiot for that!

Don't worry King, I agreed with you from the start

Missing De laet,

Dyer was same old Runs fast but we get nowhere with it,

Nugent was shit,

Vardy trying but shite,

King shit until we changed formation

Wes shakey,

Konchesky beaten on that wing so many times,

Was not a right back,

So many problems with recent performances, and can be rectified, but how? How can you rectify 178 problems in 1 game?

It was a nightmare for us, and it's worrying,

Was happy with drinkwater, He didnt have the best game, but for the first half, he was the only player that wanted the ball

We are one point from top, I'm glad we have Burnley and QPR coming up, a chance to really get things back on track. I have a feeling we are going to beat Burnley and start to move forward again...

433 has failed almost every time we've played it, surprise surprise it failed again. Switched to 442 and looked an entirely different proposition. Even then Pearson couldn't help but take off Dyer to create a weird, unbalanced version of 442 that left us solely reliant on the superb Knockeart to create chances.

Let's not pull any punches. Last season Pearson completely lost the plot tactically and with his team selections and it resulted in a collapse. This season, he is making exactly the same mistake again and only a fool would expect a different result.

We're well and truly on the slide now and I have no confidence in Pearson brig able to turn it around.

We have the players capable of achieving promotion from this league, but we don't have the manager. Another play off failure beckons, that is if we can muster enough of a resistance to stay in the play offs, after which Pearson won't be offered a new deal.

It'll be his own fault too, he is his own worst enemy. I believe his arrogance gets in the way of basic decision making. Starting with a formation that fails almost every time and without your best player and with two old and slow full backs, one of whom isn't even a full back, and expecting them to provide width is just basic, inexcusable incompetence.

For me, Pearson should take a lot of the blame for today's performance.

His team selection was terrible. We should have learnt our lesson from Tuesday night - where many things were learnt. Our back 4 needed changing, and most vulnerable there would have been Wasilewski. Wasyl has not had a pre-season and he's 33 so it was inevitable that sooner or later he should be rotated out of the side. He was arguably the weakest link on Tuesday where he had a poor game and looked very sloppy and tired. Unfortunately, he carried that in to today and it cost us 3 goals. To add insult to injury was Pearson's decision to move the tiring Wasyl to centre back and Morgan to right back towards the end - which ultimately cost us a penalty and totally killed the game off. Brighton would not have won that penalty if that switch wasn't made, Morgan's positioning was all wrong and Wasyl got his header all wrong too.

Secondly, Pearson's decision to drop Knockaert amazes me. He was our only hope and bright spark on Tuesday night until he was 'TACTICALLY' substituted - go figure that one out. He should be the first player on the teamsheet, no matter what formation we play, we need to build our team around him and if we were to get promoted, which is the target, then Knockaert is a player who will hopefully stay with us for years and keep us up there and to build in the future. He is the best player in the Championship in my opinion and he's starts on the bench. Ludicrous. Did Pearson not learn his lesson on Friday night by playing Vardy wide right of a front 3? He didn't drag wide out enough and Wasyl would have no support going forward or backwards, same again today. We looked much more dangerous when Vardy was put up top and Nugent out wide as Vardy actually closes defenders down.

As for Nuseless. He really is hopeless, mind you he scored 2 against Ipswich so I'd better keep my mouth shut, the Nugent lovers have a free reign over foxestalk for at least the next 3 months until he scores again. When's Burnley away? Isn't that another one of them grounds he scores at? That's your next hope boys. His touch is garbo, movement poor, work rate pathetic and finishing diabolical. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE SMILE GUYS.

We'll beat Burnley.

I am going to get abuse for this I am sure, but if we lose againt QPR and Burnley, then it will be good bye Nigel.

Must get tactics correct, and to bench our most dangerous player is insane,

Did you see the difference when he came on, I did and I hope Nigel has seen this too.!

Maybe that was the desired outcome? Maybe NP sees what his players are doing in training and just maybe decides he knows best. Perhaps if Knocky ha started he'd have been swanning around and not been as good. Know one knows, but hey, let's slag them all off again. We must be shit.

Well he did score...

The issue was the flanks, zero protection for either full back first half and Was (just as on Tuesday) was culpable.

MooseBreath or MooseBrain? (haha, see what I did there?)

If 2 losses in a row, taking us from top to 3rd, 1 point behind the leaders, is us "truly on the slide" then we may all need to wonder how we've all avoided suicide this long as LCFC fans.

RELAX!

We lost to Brighton - as did Burnley earlier in the season. QPR only managed a 0-0 draw at home to them. They're not a bad side and many other sides will drop points to them. It's not ideal going into a tough few games but if we all start panicking now that will feed into the team and a bad run becomes inevitable.

I agree with most of that. Apart from Nugent.. I still believe the problem is a lack of supply primarily.

I also don't think we'll beat Burnley.

just need to get back to basics none of this 433 crap. we need de laet back to be honest as wasyl isn't really quick enough to be a rb although fair play to him he can certainly play better football that most of our defenders. 442 next game please nige!

Team selection was poor and let's hope hasn't damaged the team spirit.  When we took Nugent off brought on wood and Knockaert for Hammond we were very unlucky not to get it to 2 2.  Go back to the normal team and bring in De Laet as soon as possible.

But you're totally missing the point.

The league table says we're better than them, regardless of their one off wins. Barnsley beat them on Tuesday, does that mean we're worse than Barnsley? Of course it bloody doesn't.

They're a midtable side and when I've seen them this season they've been very average. We should be a better side than them. Today, they were better than us because we didn't play to our best.

Can't people just accept we were shit and Pearson fvcked up? I don't like people getting carried away with our defeats but then there's others who just ignore the issues and blame it all on luck or the unpredictability of the championship.

We were shit, we're better than that, that's it. Now let's just hope we play well in our next match rather than absolving the team of blame.
