Can't believe some idiots are actually questioning if it was racist...really get a fcuking grip of reality.

I just think branding someone as a racist because they used the word 'black' in the context of an insult is possibly premature. If you're going to ban him, do it on the grounds that he's a confrontational, aggressive man.

The amount of over the top apologies on here is remarkable...The guy is clearly a c*ck and skin colour shouldn't be brought in to things, but its hardly like he was burning a cross and with a white hood on.

If a white guy at the ground gets called a white pr*ck by an Asian or black guy, would this many people be out in force? I seriously doubt it, especially as I've actually seen it happen down the city.

Incredible. What an absolute bellend.

Incidentally, I must have been standing next to you at the game, I was KK and standing two seats away from the barrier.

Hope the right people get back to you and something is done about this cretin.

using adjectives is standard language, especially during periods of emotion.

And calling someone a black cvnt is standard racist language.

If I could like this post on my phone I would.

Anyone would think the guys been killed or something lol!

Whether you say 'black c*nt,' 'white c*nt,' 'fat c*nt,' 'gay c*nt' or whatever other type of cvnt, it's fairly clear you're using any of those adjectives as part of that insult. I'd argue that claiming otherwise is just being obtuse.

You are spot on. That is the legal implication. It's all about adjectives in these examples.

Ladies and gentlemen, living proof that this country still has a way to go (in 2013 FFS) to eradicate racism and racist sympathisers.

Astonishing ignorance.

you'll never eradicate racism, every human being is racist to varying degrees, whether you admit it or not. this isn't about that, it's about the use of language and labelling someone as racist for describing someone with a darker skin colour as "black". I'll say it again to you, it's not automatically racist.

Calling someone a black c*nt isn't designed to describe someone it meant to abuse someone. It's racist by law! I'd rather trust the laws opinion on this matter.

For those who doesn't think it's racist. If the poster had come on here and said I was called a "cunt" and I think it was racist, people would be right to say it probably isn't because how can it be proved?

The fact that the person has used the persons skin tone in the insult, clearly insinuates racism .

Don't agree at all, and am heartened that people react with shock and outrage at this behaviour. If you don't get why it's such an issue then I can't help that but the very fact that the law exists indicates you are in a minority in thinking this was a minor thing.

You see, I'm a bit of a sceptic and I don't actually genuinely believe that half of the people replying in such a shocked and overly sympathetic manner are actually really feeling that way. They are doing it because that's what you should be seen to be doing. Racism is unfortunately still around, and although there has been a lot of good work to eradicate and educate, there will still be some idiots. We all know that. I still stand by my post though, that it hardly the most extreme of cases and although it's wrong, it's not exactly extreme or worth crying over like some people appear to be. God knows how some people would react if they ever actually saw some seriously harsh racism. I think they'd literally explode

.

You managed to kindly leave out the next part of my post though. If a white person came on here and said that they had been called a white c*nt by a black or Asian guy, would there be this uproar and over the top sympathy? We both know the answer to that is no.

Calling someone a 'white' anything isn't likely to cause offence because there is no power, history or generic connotations associated with the term. The opposite can be said of the reverse.

Yes but you're forgetting the history of racism that black people have had to endure, and that a lot of Asian people still get today. Living in a country with a large white majority that have had little to no history of racist abuse, a lot of people would probably laugh it off indeed. It is still racist but obviously people are going to react differently due the nature of it.

Beat me to it.

I've been on the receiving end of racism from Asians before (I'm white) during a cricket match and it's a horrible experience which left a 10-year-old kid who was with us in bits.

Racism is wrong, pure and simple. The lad who started this thread deserves all of our support in getting the vile **** who abused him dealt with.

Watson, for some reason it won't let me quote you..

I'm well aware of the history etc and know where you're coming from with that, but it doesn't seem like any direct feeling towards that was meant or implied by the idiot who threw the insult. I'd be surprised if the first thing the OP thought when it happened was to think of slavery or the history. Instead I'm assuming that they were at first insulted, then thought, hey, you're not supposed to do things like that and use someone's skin colour as a way to put them down....which of course, is correct.

Coming from a college where I was literally one of only 4 or 5 white people there, as well as playing cricket against the Leicester Caribbean and Asian sides, along with playing against 100% inner city Asian football sides, the racial abuse aimed towards myself and other whites is actually horrific, and would make some of the people on here explode in sheer disbelief, or jump to the offenders side to say it's ok, because they're historically a minority and have suffered it, therefore making it alright. Ok, maybe they won't actually say that, but that's the way some people have come across from previous racism threads and I'm sure I'm not the only one to have noticed it.

The thing that annoys me most wasn't/isn't the abuse from them towards whites, but the fact that it gets easily brushed off and the way society is going, is to give effective immunity to anyone who isn't white. Racism isn't a one way street. I know someone who suffered terrible treatment at the hands of their employers as they were the only white person there. They were effectively forced out of the business and when a call was made to helplines to see if action could be taken, they were simply told not to bother because courts would laugh it out and it would be a waste of time. This, to me, sets alarm bells ringing and it should for others too.

At the end of the day, the guy that said it is wrong to have done so, and seems like a nasty piece of work and a tw*t from what others have said, regarding his violent nature etc too. I don't condone it, but in the grand scheme of things, it hardly scratches the surface of how bad racism can be. I'm sorry the guy got offended, but there will always be a couple of morons.

Sorry for the essay, there's probably a few mistakes in there, I'm just putting forward another side to the ole' racism discussion. I'm also braced for a backlash lol.

I don't think anyone thinks that only white people can be racist, and that they never receive it back, if there are cases of racial abuse towards white people it should be dealt with in the same way. Nobody anywhere should be made to feel inferior because of the colour of their skin.

I don't get the point you're trying to make here. Should people only express sympathy if there was a spot of Paki bashing?

And for those of you that seem to think that, in this context, being called a black c**t isn't racist, I wonder whether you actually appreciate what it's like to be racially abused?

I'm not trying to speak for the OP here, but having also been abused by fellow City fans for the colour of my skin I can tell you it is a horrible, horrible experience. It's not the same as being called fat, lanky or anything else. The meaning behind it is to suggest that you're not welcome because of the colour of your skin. I fail to see how even the stupidest person in the world can't grasp such a basic fact.

Racism by any person or group towards another is wrong. That includes racism by ethnic minorities towards other groups.

I don't think shade knows what racism is.

probably something like discriminating or acting discriminatorily to somebody based on their ethnicity?

are both these statements racist then?

you're a black man.

you're a black ****.
