Leicfox Posted 4 May 2015 Posted 4 May 2015 Took on an allotment back in November as a complete beginner but I'm really enjoying it especially now the weather is getting a little better. It's great talking and learning from the more experienced owners who've been on their plots for years and hopefully I might get some nice home-grown fruit and veg in a few months. It's taking shape nicely, Before & Now photo below, excuse my old man in the background lounging about.

I've actually today got my hands on 35 2x2 paving slabs, although I don't know what I'm gonna do with them yet I might make a patio in front of the shed for BBQ's and probably put a path down the middle. What I do know though is that I'm shagged, it was back breaking work lumping them all with a wheel-barrow one by one.

I've often been in your situation. Worse when you take no money and desperately need something sugary to propel you home. Horrific

I have some cracking trails/tow paths on my doorstep for the mtb (Hicks Lodge is about 2 miles away) and some wonderful countryside and pubs to hit on my roadie. I`v got 3 bikes and they all do a job. The mtb is for fun, the hybrid is for commuting and the road bike is for getting out into the countryside.

Yeah I'm not too far from Hicks Lodge, biking there and back plus a lap is about 25 miles all around, it's a nice length. There's some nice trails in the local woods too.

Me neither but I've started to appreciate the tranquility of the places and the craftsmanship that goes into building and decorating them. I'm working on an exhibition and small article on the subject that I can shamelessly plug on here if you like!
