Guest Bilo Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Leicester Foxes would be the end for me. Leicester Fosse is the only acceptable name change, even then it would be grudgingly.
Corky Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 I fail to see how it would bring extra revenue. You need sustained success on the pitch for people to notice you as a club abroad. Absolutely no point in doing it.
Voll Blau Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Straw and camel come to mind. Would be the end for me and English football. Snap.
Finnaldo Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Foxes I couldn't stand. American sports are fun to watch in their own way but by no means does it mean we should switch, it'll suck the tradition out of English football. Fosse I actually like. Whereas City obviously has got historical influences (turning to a city around the time of the name change) but Fosse was the original team name and it is completely unique to the club. I'd feel no shame in changing back and in fact I'd welcome it with open arms.
Finnaldo Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 TBF the Leicester Tigers have been called the tigers long before America started influencing any of our sports... I'm not 100% sure it has any relevance but wasn't the Royal Leicestershire Regiment's badge a Tiger? I think members of the regiment were called 'Tigers'. I might has something to do with that though again I'm not sure.
midland_red Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 absolutely against, just as I was when it was proposed to change the name back to Leicester Fosse. We are a city - not some miserable town like Reading - and should bear that status with pride
Bilbo Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Jesus another thread on this. It's safe to say that nobody would want a name change.
Manwell Pablo Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 The owner's aren't stupid enough to do that, thankfully.

Think your right Think that's were the Everards beer gets it's name from as well.

hesapeepingtom Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 i would personally gouge the name changers eyes out and then rip his ball off,i would marinate his eyes in my own piss! and then pop one bollock into each empty eye socket! i would make him chew on his own empty baggy ball sack before popping his ripped out eyes into his anus! then lay a foot long on his bonce before telling him to promptly change the name back!

So I guess you'd be against?
Danno Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 I don't see how changing our name to Leicester Foxes will bring in more money, the same for 'Hull Tigers'. Absolutely pointless.
promised land Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Foxes I couldn't stand. American sports are fun to watch in their own way but by no means does it mean we should switch, it'll suck the tradition out of English football. You're right about Americanism, next thing you'd know, we'd be competing in a World Series cup tournament. If we did change, I'd still go, just wouldn't buy anything with the name on it. I'd even scratch it off my season card.
Langston Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Thank Christ our owners haven't proven (yet) to be anything like some of the cretins you read about. On the face of it we really have struck absolute gold with our lot. Sensible, patient business on and off the field, a seemingly genuine knowledge of the sport in this country and in general (post-Sven) and no media circus a la Fawaz, Madaric, Tan, Allam...
Captain... Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 I agree I would walk out if they changed anything about our club, if we stopped playing in chocolate brown and light blue, changed the name from fosse, changed our nickname from the filberts, played anywhere other than filbert street, and god forbid they change our club badge.
Langston Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 changed the name from fosse, Isn't it a little different changing the name for "commercial" reasons as opposed to merely changing it due to the City status Leicester was given in that particular period?
Dan Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 I don't get how the Cardiff and hull fans are just lying down and accepting it, if it does ever happen to city, I would expect Demo's and people to vote with their feet, if not city or fosse I wouldn't go, our clubs have history and not to be undermined by some publicity stunt, or because the owners think red is lucky, again I think our owners appreciate tradition and don't think they will change anything Because they're more arsed about seeing Van Persie than having a club to be proud of.
Captain... Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Isn't it a little different changing the name for "commercial" reasons as opposed to merely changing it due to the City status Leicester was given in that particular period? So what if it wasn't for commercial reasons? What if the club wanted to change the name for other reasons, such as change it to Leicestershire Foxes, as really the fox is representative of the hunting tradition in the county and not the inner city urban foxes, and they want to be more inclusive of the county and attracte more fans. What if they wanted to change the kit colour to red, because it is "proven" by scientists that it is the easiest colour to distinguish and could actually help us on the pitch. Or what if they did it to significantly increase revenue so we could be more competitve on the pitch in light of FFP restrictions. I do think we are all a little precious over something that has changed since our inception, Our club, like football in general, has evolved over the last 125 years, changing its name, nickname, stadium, shirt colour, badge, and pretty much everything else along the way. The only thing that hasn't changed and can never change is the location, that is the onlt thing that matters to me, we represent Leicester, the name and the colour don't really. I'm not saying I want them to change, and that traditions aren't important, I just wouldn't get all upset if they did.
crisp packet Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Just no. We play in blue and we are called city . End of!
