Know its too much. There are occasions though where any moral protest should be forgotten for one day. If you think 30 is bad now it couod be our cheapest price next season.

And its quite hypocritical moaning about prices etc to then say youll sit and watch it on tele thus funding the culprits!

erm...the culprits are the club. What have Sky got to do with our ticket prices? If anything, the opportunity for people to watch the match on TV should persuade the club to make the tickets cheaper.

People have just spent a load on Christmas. Imagine you're one of those many fans who aren't proper hardcore, sitting in the cold, hating Derby with a passion people. What are you going to do? Go for the cheap option or say 'hmmm the club won't budge, so I might just let them rip me off'?

Don't you think people are more likely to say 'hang on a minute, these stupid cvnts think I'm going to pay that when I can watch it on the telly? W*nkers'?

Furthermore if we did go up there'll be loads of games on sky. You just know itll be, 'Arsenal v Leicester 4pm on a Sunday? **** paying 50 quid a ticket I'll watch it at home'

We need to be careful what we wish for (promotion) if we arent prepared to pay over the odds.

Back to the derby game, we could be looking back at this game and see it as a real cornerstone of our season.

We won't have nearly as many games on Sky I'd guess. And fvcking hell, no I wouldn't pay £50 for that if that's what you're suggesting.

You have made my point for me. If everyone turned up to see us play Derby for £30 just because people went because it's a big game and they want to show everyone how much they care, how does that convince the club that £30 is too much? What's to stop them charging £50 if they know people will turn up for it regardless? Isn't now the time to tell them there are certain prices we won't pay?

I think it's a bit hypocritical to think a price is acceptable for one opposition but not another. People shouldn't be judged for not paying £30 because it's Derby.

I'm judging noone mate. I'm just saying I'm sure there are some who could easily afford it and won't bother and im sure there are some who could save a bit between now and then and they also won't bother. Then there are those who don't have Sky, but would've gone if it wasn't a platinum fixture. So they were prepared to fork out £25 (im guessing) but are unwilling to fork out the extra £7? They'll spend probably £10 minimum in the pub.

I see your points and you're right. Any other game in any other circumstance and I'd be agreeing 100% with you.

As for the possibility of next season. Think how often Cardiff Hull and Palace have been on. It'll happen more often than you think. And as for the prices you'll have to get used to them unfortunately.

There's a weird grey area between being a fan and being a customer that crops up time and time again and this sort of game falls squarely in that area.

As a business you have to offer your customers what they want at the right price but football clubs have that added luxury of almost insurmountable brand loyalty. The only people that really benefit in any material way from us winning and then getting promoted are the owners and the club. We as supporters only really benefit from the experience of seeing better players playing for us and playing against better clubs etc. If the club truly believe that a large home crowd can influence a better performance on the pitch, it would be a no-brainer to lower ticket prices for games like this and therefore increase the chance of it paying off later when we hit the EPL windfall.

The onus certainly isn't with us to dig deeper as customers. If you've got competition, compete!!

Supporters, not customers.

When they can justify charging 'Platinum' prices at all I'll start considering paying them. I had a season ticket for 14 ****ing years and ALL that happened was slow and incremental rises in the price, whilst the quality of the product dropped steadily. That's not fair. At least the punditry and technology of Sky is getting better.

**** them.

Totally agree with you mate, ill be there for sure. This is when you separate the real fans from the plastics!!

I've refrained from using those terms as i hate them. But 3 points over these HAS to be more important than the 6-8 quid difference in ticket prices.

People can boycott other games. Has anyone botheted moaning about prices to the club or just on here?

This is a difficult one as I definitively see both sides to this discussion. Yes it is a massive game between East Midlands rivals and the current top 2, however Friday night and on Sky imo the club have missed a massive trick by getting the price structure completely wrong. As a ST holder ofcourse I will be there, I can fully understand people, who aren't, making an alternative arrangement. If only the powers that be, who make these decisions, seized the opportunity, adjusted the prices and looked at filling the place. The benefits would far outweigh the hassle and prevent what potentially could be a shocking attendance for a game of such magnitude!

At £16 a game a season ticket works out at superb value IMO. Spread over the year it's about £32 per month, or just over £1 a day. I consider the entertainment value to have been generally good. Should we play in the Premiership next year, expect to pay significantly more for your platinum ticket, at no guarantee of a better game. Whilst I fully appreciate that 30 odd quid is expensive and Sky are televising the game, it would be great to have a really healthy crowd, because what ever happens we'll be top of the league when this game comes around. Think of it as our Play off final and ask would you pay to go to that. If so, perhaps consider it.

You have to think about the individuals mate. Every individual will be thinking this will never sell out. Hence, they won't see filling the stadium as a reason to go. We might win with 20K there, and then won't the people who haven't gone because of the price have been justified?

Now, there is a theory that a full stadium will help the team. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. The club obviously don't believe in it though.

I don't think moaning to the club about ticket prices makes any difference. They would take literally no notice. Believe me, I've tried discussing things with the club before. People could boycott other games but the bigger ones will be the higher priced ones. It would mean little to boycott Reading or Bolton if you were going to go to a more expensive match like Derby.

It's not a play-off final though, it's a top of the table clash in January. There are 4 more months of football after. It's not the be all and end all.

I'll be going for the record.

I'm just trying to get people to consider going, Kitchandro - would they find £60 for a play off final ticket, if so, spend it now and help push the promotion charge?

We're on a hiding to nothing here. The shit kick off time combined with the even shitter pricing means this game won't hit 25k and it should be an absolute sell out.

But give me yesterday and boxing day's support over that horror show against Man City.

Posted

Can't see a sell out. Poor kick off time, and pricing for home and away fans (£32 for Derby I think!) is poor. Add that to the fact it's on tv.

Yeh i understand and i honestly see both sides of the argument. bluetintedspecs' analogy is bang on though. This could be the equivalent of our playoff final. Thats also televised incidentally, with tickets more than 30 quid

Didnt realise they had made this platinum, what an absolutely ridiculous decision.

Would be nice to see people make the effort but I can't blame anyone for not shelling out 35 quid for a game on Friday night let alone one that's on tv as well.

There's a difference between a play-off final and a game on $ky in January on a Friday night, even if it is against Derby in a top two clash.

This game just proves to me there are some absolute morons at this club who will never learn. Absolute greedy non-football fans.

It's a shame that supporters feel they have to take it upon themselves to rile up an attendance for a big game. The sentiment is great but the onus really shouldn't be on us to do that.

A televised game, a Friday night, and a couple of weeks after Christmas!! You don't need a Masters in Economics to work out how you could get the turnstiles clicking.
