I've been obsessing over my salary a bit lately. Median salary figures for places like Leicester are about £18k in the city and up to about £23k in the countryside, but everywhere I go people appear to have more money than that.

So how much do you earn? No need to announce it in the thread (unless you want to), just answer the anonymous poll.

This year its been about $30,000. But money goes much further over here as petrol prices are about a third.. house prices are less than that.

Shift leader in the automotive industry - just under 25k basic but haven`t hit under 30k since 2006/7.

I`d like to add that money aint everything, I was a happier and healthier person before I was promoted and if I could go back to the days of less money and less stress I would...

Not going to disclose it. However, I am overpaid and underworked, whilst still enjoying what I do to an extent. Rather that than underpaid and overworked.

Not going to reveal but I do alright. One thing I will say is that the median wage in Leicester is due to the large number of call centre and warehouse type roles in Leicester. I worked in both when I was young before embarking on the career I have now. I will mention though that to get the salary I am on I have to travel outside of Leicester to get it so travel from Leicester 50 miles to get to work.

In the last year I've gone from just under 14k to just shy of 19k, I'm now at the top of my job, next step is a promotion.

Considering I've had 4 pay rises in a year, I'm hoping it'll be within the next 18 months, that'd see me to up to £22k.

My basic wage is the top end of one category but I work lots of overtime, extra shifts and on call taking me well into the next bracket.

It seems most of my friends earn more than me without ever knowing exactly what they earn.

£36k basic but I work in London, live in Leicester. I'm lucky enough to get cheap train tickets to London, and free travel in London thanks to my job, which makes this possible

I honestly don't know what I earn.  If I was more organised & kept a closer eye on my incomings & outgoings, I might have more of an idea.

When I was employed by someone to do a similar job, I was earning £20k.......which was pretty good compared to people working elsewhere doing the same thing (a council gardener).  The only way I would have seen my money increase was through promotion & becoming a manager (around £26k).  I had the offer of a manager's job, but it would have taken me indoors & away from what I enjoyed.

I'm now self-employed & all I know is I have more money than I did before.  As long as the bills are paid & there's money in my pocket that will do me.  I don't live in a big house, I don't drive a flash car & I don't go on expensive holidays.  I could charge more than I do & not do so many favours for my customers...........but I'm happy with how things are.

Re psinatra/ Don't you have to keep a record if self employed for tax purposes or should I not ask?

Early retirement so my income is not in the high bracket but I don't want for anything really. Non-smoker and driver so only basic bills to manage.
