davieG Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25609127 They're quite happy to give out ribbing and abuse but can't take it when a player returns it.
Raj Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Good on theo ...we fans love giving out stick to players but are quick to whinge when they dish it out.

Aint that the truth and if that had been Soldado doing it to Arsenal fans Spurs fans would be lapping it up, Spurs forums would be full of fans wallowing in the glory of it and no doubt we'd have seen the Arsenal fans lobbing coins.
Benji Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 There's a business venture in here somewhere: An Arsenal matchday steward holds some of the coins allegedly thrown at striker Theo Walcott
bovril Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Absolutely right. I heard an interview with Beckham once when he said one of the things that sets professional footballers apart is their ability to deal with abuse from the stands... and Christ did he have to put up with some appalling abuse.

Saxondale Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I was going to make a joke about jews and throwing money away but I've decided against it. Instead I'll just state how much I dislike Spurs fans.

I heard an interview with Beckham once when he said one of the things that sets professional footballers apart is their ability to deal with abuse from the stands... and Christ did he have to put up with some appalling abuse. But not as much abuse as Adam Lallana suffered the other week.http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25589958
Out Foxed Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 must be north london if people are chucking pound coins

Benji Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 More than he got in wages Should be enough to buy a pair of nail clippers.
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 There's a business venture in here somewhere: An Arsenal matchday steward holds some of the coins allegedly thrown at striker Theo Walcott There's a joke regarding the religious beliefs of Spurs fans and throwing coins of such value in here but I wont make it for fear of getting banned
Jimothy Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 There's a joke regarding the religious beliefs of Spurs fans and throwing coins of such value in here but I wont make it for fear of getting banned I'm amazed there wasn't a scramble from the stands to try and get the spoils!
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I have no problem with players giving stick back, they cop enough the other way, but my main thought when he did that was "one of those guys carrying that stretcher is about to get hit by something". Bit stupid of him to do knowing what the likely reaction would be, and inconsiderate to the guys carrying him on a stretcher at the time. Any support up and down the country has got someone/some people in their group that will throw something if taunted by a player, as wrong as that is. If one of those guys had been hit by a coin I think Walcott would have felt at least partly responsible so he should have been wise enough to consider what he was doing and how it may affect those around him. Fortunately it didn't happen.
Daz93 Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Who is throwing pound coins about? Exactly what I thought. They'll have to start adding "Throwing coins at a matchday: £2" to the price of football.

Corky Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Or perhaps the idiots throwing the coins should have been more considerate and responsible, it's not as if he was being abusive. They should be more considerate but unfortunately morons who think it's perfectly fine to give abuse, hurl objects etc do not like players giving a harmless response to the bile directed their way. You'd like to think grown adults can take a bit of mick-taking and not resort to throwing coins around and act in a more civilised fashion but it doesn't happen. No wonder people outside football look down on the supporters when one response to taunting elicits a totally over-the-top reaction.

It also provide ammunition (no pun intended) to those against safe standing. I know these were 'sitting fans' but the view will be if they do that when they're supposed to be sitting how can we trust them to stand.
bovril Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Exactly what I thought. They'll have to start adding "Throwing coins at a matchday: £2" to the price of football. Well I suppose when you've paid 60 quid for a ticket and 20 quid for food and drink at the Emirates, one extra pound doesn't seem too much.

But are you telling me that a player in a local derby didn't think 'if I taunt these fans now, one of them might be stupid enough to throw something in my direction'?! If I were just a fan walking along in front of A Block at The City Ground and we were beating them 2-0, I would know full well that, were I to taunt them about the score, things could be thrown at me. The responsible thing for me therefore to do is to not taunt them. In that example I would only be putting myself at risk by taunting them but if I were being carried by four guys on a stretcher who had nothing to do with it....

And that's why a lot of the fun and repartee has disappeared from the game. No I dont think he should have considered that, it was a harmless fun action that I liked to see more of and if that exposes these imbeciles and creates debate then there's a better chance of fans learning to take like they used to and laugh at these incidents respnding with humour instead of hate. We can't continue to takethe fun out of life and place restrictions on people, that's how we ended up with all seater stadiums and fans being treated like scum. Get rid of the scum don't punish everyone because of them.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Tbf the Spurs fans have given Walcott £1.50 wheras Walcott in return just gives a hand gesture, no value for money so I understand their frustration.
Mack Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I sincerely hope those 2p coins were sharpened, what a bunch of arseholes On a serious note having been hit by a coin many moons ago it's no bed of roses, and if Walcott had caught a few of those on his head he would have been quite within his rights to do a lot more than to remind them of the score. It's these parts of the bad old days we should never allow back.
