When do you know when to quit gaming?

Whenever you want.

You play less as you get older but I still whack on an old game of Championship Manager sometimes.

I had a Playstation 1 and 2 from the ages of about 8/9 - 18 when my family I moved away from where I grew up. This was just about the time the PS3 came out and I couldn't afford one anyway.

I found myself just using the PS2 less and less and now I don't have anything (I'm 25 now). I always only played the "big" games (FIFA, GTA, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid) but did enjoy them. I don't really miss it and doubt I'll get a PS4 either.

I played on GTA 5 the first time a few weeks ago around my mates house and was bored after about 20 mins, I felt quite disappointed in myself really as I wanted to enjoy it. My "skill" had gone though, my now 15 year old brother will have me up next time I play him at FIFA!!

Didn't realise there were rules about this kind of thing.

I don't play as much as I used to, but I still enjoy the right kind of game (usually something with a strong story like The Last of Us or the Elder Scrolls games) and I'm in my mid 40s. My dad plays games on the PC such as Civ, FM and Total War.

I've recently really got into playing board games again - there are many good ones beyond the traditional Monopoly, Cluedo, Scrabble that most people have - which are great fun as they bring people together socially.

One last thing though. Cap PF is 100% right on MMOs!

So which one was it Trav, or is that a clue, were you a fellow Travian victim?

As for board games, discovered Ponte del Diavolo recently, worth checking out if you are into these kind of games.

I very rarely play on my PS3 now, I just don't find the time or motivation (if that's what you need) to play on it, I'll always buy the new FIFA when it comes out and play for a week or so but then I will become bored of it. Started playing Footy Manager again but I quickly become bored of that.

When I was younger say 10-16 I was mad about my PS2 and Xbox 360 but when my weekends started getting taken up by playing Football, going Football, Poker, parties and what not you just lose interest in a games console, I think anyway.

My PS3 now is used now for Netflix and Blu Rays.

I find time to have the odd game, but my major gaming finished about 5 years ago when I started to buck my ideas up and became aspirational,

Safe to say I have grown up a huge amount, and found time to dedicate myself to a career in business, and without having let go of the staying up all night with mates gaming phase, I would not have experienced the things I have been so fortunate to experience,

Like having runners at royal ascot and beating the queens filly in the ribblesdale, Being invited to the house of lords, and watching a dear old friend of mind purchase a world record "Picadilly circus" for £6,000,000 (with buyers premium) happily telling people he wanted to stop bidding at £4m and I egged him on to £5.5m lol

With the same man, opening up so many options for me in my future...

Now this is not down to just hard work, I was MASSIVELY fortunate to meet him,

But there was a time 3 years before where i'd rather play on my ps3 than anything else, and I would get home from my first job at 5pm and play until 12 knowing I had to be up at 5...

Taking that leap to stop matured me IMO,

and I found greater things are there for you to explore and see and do without it...

It's quite an extreme example tbh, But it's one that I am proud of, not many people have experienced what I have at my age, And I cannot stress how lucky I was in that.

But it takes a lot of hard work and DEDICATION, and that cannot be achieved on a ps3...

My Ex bought my PS3 for me, and I wont be getting a PS4, there are plenty of better things to invest into!

My theory is this... Give up my early manhood fun, give up parties, give up friends who are not worth your time and focus on the few that are, Give up holidays, Work hard... work very very hard, and the real holiday starts in an early retirement..

You see most teens nowadays with the same old shit "Im gonna go college and do beauty" then when they've done that "Im gonna go travelin" then "im gonna take a gap year"

Before they know it they are 23 and have a beauty qualification, and have hardly any options to make a career... then end up having to work to the age of 65+ (It's the same with most males too) - Which is each to their own and whatever makes them happy, not me personally

I saw a good quote from T.I "You see these young teens now, They have nothing in their life to be proud of, no career. they're going out every weekend, my question is this, What are you all celebrating?"

Again all extreme examples, but my point is this,

I used to game all the time in my early teens, giving up that and focusing on my career and earning money, was the best decision I ever made, Now I can afford to spend a few games on fifa...

You'll miss a lot of opportunities playing it!

My focus is money, if thats greed, then its greed... I want more all the time, so thats me personally, you want to learn history? LEARN IT, you want to learn about politics? LEARN ABOUT POLITICS.

That's all personal choice though. Give up parties etc...? I don't see the point. Money ain't the be all and end all.

This topic for me is one of those things that you shouldn't feel obliged to do. If a 55 year old enjoys playing FIFA then good luck to them.

Changed my mind. You should quit games when you start picking the grass type over the fire or water type.

I don't get it? This isn't me having a go either.

I understand what you're saying BUT you're constantly in the Football Manager thread posting about playing that? For a young 'aspiring', 'dedicated' and 'focused' young lad, you seem to have an awful lot of spare time to be playing Football Manager and posting on FoxesTalk.

To me that doesn't add up with anything you've said in your post.

I go through periods as others have said, I will always have something to play games on in my house whether I am into it at that point or not, pretty much like I will always have a blu ray player and book shelf, no different to me. You can aspire to achieve or learn what you want but unless you sit down and chill out at some point you're going to go mad. If you need to sell your PS3 in order to "quit" because you're "afraid" to play it then that's a bit odd.

I also don't really agree with the new improved multi millionaire business man Lee has turned into over the last 24 hours, I've achieved plenty and still can play more than 10 hours of games a week occasionally. Obviously if your 5-12 ever night you've got a problem, you're problem isn't gaming though it's the lack of other things in your life.

I play Criminal Case and Township on Facebook but no playstation type games. I only need to go on once or twice a day. Have though about getting a second Xbox or Playstaion but the games can be pricey and I could lose interest. Not into shoot em up types.

I waste my time in other ways. A bit old for them now anyway.

Yeah like most people have said, you naturally stop playing as you lose interest. The only game I've been playing on my 360 is Fallout:NV, and I've been 'playing' it for about 2 years now, because I only seem to go on it once every couple of months.

You should never truly quit gaming IMO. You never know when a spare few hours comes about and you just fancy taking your mind off day to day boring stuff. Ive been a massive gamer all my life (im 28 now). I have just brought PS4 but to be honest havent really played it as just havent found the time now im home with 2 kids.(used to work away so would play games some nights a week to keep me out the pubs and save money). I brought the Ps4 out of habit but now i have a new job and home everynight i hardly touch it. That being said i wont 'quit' gaming as im sure when my son is older he will want to 'try' and beat me at FIFA. He is 3 weeks old so got a while to wait but i cant wait to play games with him.

I dont know if you have kids but i say never fully 'quit' gaming.

It always nice to have it there if you just fancy having a blast on something. Knowing your luck you will quit and sell everything then a week later a game comes out you really want to play and you will be gutted

I don't agree with this to be honest, yes work hard but don't give up things you enjoy. What's the point in working hard and earning money if you aren't going to enjoy it. I've had a lads holiday every year with my friends since 2007 and the laughs, stories and memories money will never be able to buy.

As much as I'd like to think i'll be going Magaluf with my friends when I'm in my mid 60's I very much doubt it. Though you probably will find me walking down a beach in Pattaya with a 20 year old Thai girl.

As others have said, he's also on here talking about Football Manager a fair bit for someone who claims to have dedicated himself to a monastic/hermetic existence free from all gaming or other pleasures...

It's easy to say how that you're "aspirational" or "dedicated". Anyone can say it. The hard part is actually doing it.

I work in a fairly all-consuming job (and at the moment in an interesting part of the World). But, I like a bit of gaming in my time off, often instead of watching TV or a film. It's nice down-time.

A life completely dedicated to self-improvement is no life at all. Do what makes you happy.

Everything in moderation and all that.

Spot on.

I've been lucky enough to travel a lot of the world while young and have memories and stories that will last me forever.

I'd rather do it young that old, you won't be out until 4am having shared a night on the piss with so and so when you are 55-60.

P.S I'll see you in Pattaya. lol

The memories I have had of holidays and my social life in general I wouldn't swap for anything, I can't imagine to start living my life at the age of 50+, that's not a life, that would just be an existence to me anyway.

Same situation.

Just been on FIFA, played one game and turned it off due to getting bored. As I said on page one I've never been a massive gamer, and I rarely watch tv either, but it's got to the point where even when I have a few spare hours I just naturally find other things to do.

As with everything, it'll just be personal preference etc.
