Flare in N-Block

Mildly bemused that a guy gets a 3 match ban for calling a shopkeer an idiot...and someone else gets a 3 match ban for throwing bomb

:dunno:

People still go to the back of N Block and think they're some form of casual? Oh dear. Most pathetic area of the King Power.

Even worse that smoke bombs are being set off in a 'Family Stand', not the smartest of ideas lads, young children and all that. They're fantastic away from home but in the King Power on a freezing Monday at home to Boro? Nah, they aren't the coolest of things.

Surely when you younger lads are settled down with some kids of your own and you take them to a City game, you would be a little pissed off if a smoke bomb landed near you and your little lad?

The worse thing to ever come from this new little craze is this embarrassing line lads seem to use now.. "No pyro, no party", really? lol

A freezing Monday?! What calendar you using? Haha.

Are you drunk?

No, just too dense to present an argument without resorting to personal abuse.

It was never thrown at any kid? Some people are over reacting

I'm guessing you didn't see it then. It landed yards away from my 3 year old son. The coughing and spluttering that ensued wasn't pleasant.

What an embarrassment all round.

Firstly I think it's a shame that the good work of those in N1 has been undone by one mindless act of a few young lads. Whilst it's important to recognise that it was a very stupid thing to do, let's also try not to criminalise these fans - everyone was young once and everybody makes mistakes.

As for the idiots on page one suggesting that these fans are the ones wanting to stand, have a word with yourselves. Hundreds of thousands stand every week and have no desire to let off a flare or throw a smokie, but don't let that get in the way of your good old prejudices.

I think it's incredibly sad that those in the Family Stand willing to sponge off the atmosphere created by those in N Block are so quick to turn on them as a collective when one individual makes an error if judgment. Suddenly now they are all chavs. Fed up of this holier than thou attitude.

My personal view on pyro is that they can only look good when used en masse, which will never happen in the UK. The one off smokie looks gash, particularly if it's orange.

Having said that, it isn't going to go away so I genuinely think there's a market for 'safe' pyro - based on same technology as e-cigs...

Why are we being made out to be criminals? We've seen smoke bombs right next to the family stand all season and nobody says anything? Who cares? It adds to the atmosphere. Cant believe some of you are saying it could of burnt someone etc! Listen to yourselves. Dont sit next to the away fans if you cant handle a bit of tension and aggro.

Do you realize how much of a fool you have made yourself look?

It's not so much the smoke bomb that has annoyed people but where you threw it. AND the fact you have tried to defend throwing it where you threw it.

stupidity of the highest order.

Apparently a steward threw it

The problem is that this has done those who wish to stand and generate an atmosphere in N block no favours. They were already in a precarious position and I fear this has proved the club right in why they don't want that section expanding. If they have any future in there then they need to be self policing to an extent before the club takes action by posing no problem for the stewards and showing that they can stand and create an atmosphere without offending the families and without causing any security or safety issues. The atmosphere can be quite good in the family stand (my season ticket is in L1 but when I take my kids I take them in P1) and it would be a shame to see those in N block forced out but if they upset off family's or cause trouble for the stewards they've got no chance.

I would imagine the guilty boys are young and think a bit of anarchic behaviour is fun. What they will not be able to appreciate is that not everyone thinks like a teenager and for all those people it spoils the atmosphere. It's like the person at a party who gets a bit too drunk and becomes a bore but they think they're hilarious.

A 3 match ban is about right. They will grow up and feel slightly embarrassed in most people's company to admit they ever did it. I suspect the risk to health wasn't great but they set a poor example to young people who may think it was cool and that's the main damage caused.

We've got high risk stewards.

Joking aside, the steward would have been trying to quickly and as safely as possible remove it from the stand. If it hadn't been set off in the first he wouldn't have needed to do so and the steward at the bottom wouldn't have been hit, so to blame him is a bit pointless.

To be fair looking over into N block it didn't look like too many people were upset. The problem is how the club will react as a result. This season the atmosphere has been improving with the family stand, N block and the Kop becoming more vocal. If N blockers are forced out because of this that's a decent little pocket of noise taken away from next to the away fans which is a shame as in my opinion we want as much noise in that section of the ground as possible.

Stewards should be trained to deal with this sort of thing. Throwing it down the stand was certainly not the safest way to get rid if it!

Like the stewards at Blackpool, when the flare went off there they tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher lol

Safest thing to do with flares is to let them burn out, surely?

They only burn for around 60 seconds.

I'm a fan of pyro and they are very safe until you do stupid things like throw them. If it was a steward who threw it then the training for situations like this needs reviewing urgently. I'm sure the intention was to get the smoke bomb out of the area but the throwing of it made it dangerous. Hopefully one of the stewards who post on here can reassure us this tactic won't be used again to remove whatever pyro is set off.

The person who ignited it really needs to consider themselves lucky if all they got is a three match ban.

I agree, but at the time this steward thought he was doing the best thing quickly removing it from the stand, however daft throwing it was the club won't look at it and think 'oh, it was the steward that through it' they will say if it wasn't set off in the first place then the situation wouldn't have occurred. Personally myself I'm not bothered by them but you need to understand that other people may be and if they complain to the club then that spells trouble for N block.

Yeah I agree, it's obvious that it's a young lad who did it, that probably didn't think of any of the repercussions that could come from it.

It's pretty obvious that I actually like pyro, and I do think that even 1 smoke bomb or flare can look good in the middle of a mental.

I just hope this doesn't get blown out of proportion any more.

Yeah exactly, just lucky that it wasn't a flare that was set off yesterday cause if that was thrown it could have caused some serious damage.

What I don't understand is the stewards took three lads into the holding cells at the full time whistle, did all three get bans or just the one lad who let it off?

Surely not even our club would ban someone just because you stood next to a smoke bomb?

I don't know whether they are dangerous for people with asthma. What I do know is they are dangerous when someone chucks them, which happens every single time they are set off.

My opinion is they don't improve the atmosphere, they certainly don't make anyone more vocal, I don't think they look that great either (especially orange ones FFS).

The policeman who arrested me and a mate for chucking two on the local nightclub dance floor told us they're dangerous to asthmatics.
