Anthrax Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 I would definitely argue that Drinkwater is the better playmaker but James is superb at the defensive side of the game. Drinkwater edges it for me but it is a very close call.
Captain... Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 Col, king, when the two of you have a combined IQ that's about half of Babs', I really don't know why you bother attempting to bait the guy. (To clarify, I'm not implying Babs is a genius.) I think you are actually insulting him
Guest MattP Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 It's incredible to think that he's only 22 also when he's been playing like a seasoned professional. I remember a United fan coming on here saying that they rated him very highly until he broke his leg and the recovery took well into 18 months +. Let's put it this way, he would be more useful for them right now that Tom Cleverley. Yep, take out that injury and the amount of games and he's missed and in terms of a footballing career hes what the average 18/19 year old player would be. His best years will still be quite a way off so we appear to have one hell of a prospect on our hands here.
Vlad the Fox Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 I said at the end of last season we should build our midfield around James. He is solid, reliable, very strong and intelligent footballer who will easily make the step up to the premier league. This allows Drinkwater the freedom to roam the midfield getting between the lines of defence and picking up and dictating play. It is a very good midfield partnership. If I remember rightly, United didn't want to sell James but he wanted first team football so they agreed to sell.
Dan Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 Cracking player. I thought for a lot of this season he hadn't lived up to his promise but he's been absolutely key for us recently. I really wonder just how far he could go.

(To clarify, I'm not implying Babs is a genius.) Babs is a gorgeous hunk and far too good for you 'Finners'. Let him reply to 'banter' himself, he don't need you holding his hand.. I think you are actually insulting him Or you CPF...
Corky Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 I think Drinkwater edges him slightly, due to his extra goal threat (James does look capable). James is a fine player, deceptively quick and excellent on the ball, not afraid to get stuck in. We are rarely bullied with him playing. Drinkwater makes the team tick though, and I think we'd miss him more if he wasn't available. Even Andy King has a lot to offer and can't get a game, shows how strong the midfield area is.
Guest Col city fan Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 Ok, Oxbridge. Reject... get it right..
maynefox Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 James for me. As mentioned he is the engine of our team. When he came on against Ipswich (away) earlier in the season he commanded the midfield and was literally everywhere, defensively,

When he came on against Ipswich (away) earlier in the season he commanded the midfield and was literally everywhere, defensively, James covers ground deceptively well mate. But the engine is Drinkwater. Id be surprised if there is a fitter player in the Championship than Danny.
ThurnbyLodgeFox Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 You can't split Danny or James, they play immense when together and definitely our best central midfield pairing. Ones game would be affected without the other. Based on potential, I'd say James is destined for bigger and better things than Drinkwater
Zapp Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 I see drinky as the player that keeps it ticking, allows us to play with speed and fluency, will look for the ball and makes sure the opponents are constantly chasing the game James does everything else. Its one of those crucial partnerships that big nige & the scouting network has brought together again. I personally prefer James, but its like preferring toast over toasted bread.

Ric Flair Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 Drinkwater just shades it for me, but James graft and movement is superb. He has to be one of the most appalling finishers i've seen though, not necessarily that essential for his game to be all about being able to finish but it would be nice if he could improve on that.

shade Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 anyone else think James always looks like he's carrying a little bit of timber? maybe it's just my imagination, quality player though.

He's a member of the GTF dieting regime. On a serious note he's definitely bulked up but not in a fat way, I think he's deceptively quick across the ground too!
deanolegend1989 Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 I think both are having quality seasons and have big futures in the game. Me personally always rated him since the first few games last season and thought he looked classy. Id say Drinky is more an all round duracel battery type midfileder, James is more calm, composure and classy. I think currently Drinky is better but I think Drinky is more prone to inconsistency and James is more reliable, however when Drinky plays well he REALLY does. I also think Drinky is at his peak years and will be the type to be too good for the Champ but may struggle to be a Premier League midfielder consistently over his career. As James I feel will be a future Premier league regular without a doubt. Technically he doesnt score enough but he has very good technique, both footed and in his mid to late 20s will be a semi goal scoring midfielder. Just delighted to have both of them in our team atm!

I think GTF was doing the his own version of the Atkins with high carbs as well.
