Vlad the Fox Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 After seeing frimpongs disaster yesterday and reading match reports I came across this. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2550407/Worst-debuts-football-history-featuring-Emmanuel-Frimpong-Rio-Ferdinand-Jonathan-Woodgate.html Got to laugh at the Southampton one as well. Rio Ferdinand's humiliation at the hands of us is half way down. So what are Leicester's worst debuts? For and against. I can remember Walsh getting sent off against Shrewsbury I think but I can't remember if that was his debut or home debut. Is there any other particular shocking debuts generally that should be highlighted?
The Doctor Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 Dion Dublin surely? Sent off after 18(?) minutes.
Guest Electric Yetis Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 Not performance wise but Ullathorne broke his ankle very early on in his debut and wasn't seen for ages. Rab Douglas had a particularly poor debut in a 4-1 defeat to Sheffield United live on Sky Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Strokes Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 Pretty sure Dennis wise made his debut for us against Bolton at home in a 5-0 thrashing. He never looked back.
Bert Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Dublin's springs to mind. Rob Ullathorne as well. Broke his leg after 12 minutes.
Uncle Albert Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Joe Cole had a stinker for us v Arsenal, sent off after 35 minutes, pretty summed up his career at Anfield.
Donut Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Roque Junior for Leeds in the crushing 4-0 defeat made famous by Fanzone commentary. Looked utterly clueless all night and had to be hauled off. career destroyed, and had won a world cup.
fazzyfox Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Seem to remember Mark Grew vs Notts County being dodgy, and agree with Ben Mee, Kalac and of course Dennis Wise. I was shocked at how he'd been in the England side just a year earlier but was so off the pace, more interested in bumping the man off the ball (illegally) than closing down properly. He kept playing telegraphed sideways and backward passes that were intercepted and a young Kevin Nolan destroyed us that day. It was disheartening as much as anything else, "shit, I thought he (Wise) was supposed to be quite good". Then the realisation that a combination of him, injury prone Jones and Junior 'The second coming of Pele' Lewis was Taylor's masterplan for replacing Lennon. If I knew what was coming next (assault, sacking, pursuit of wages, size of salary) that day I would have been even more angry.
Guest Col city fan Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Spider Kalac, if memory serves me rightly, had an absolute fookin stinker in front of the Spion kop at Filbert Street. We could see that we'd signed a stinker pretty much straight off.
Far Post Gerry Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Woodgate at Real Madrid. Own goal then got sent off. I blame myself to be honest; a few weeks before I'd been in Spain and was drunkenly waxing lyrical about Woodgate to some Real fan in a bar, saying he was better than Owen and Beckham. Ridiculous looking back on it, but I seemed to believe it at the time...

hairy Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 I thought his debut was WBA away 3-2 win? Could be wrong mind! The match I remember was against Bolton in the league cup where we were comfortably winning until Spider came on. Could be wrong and usually am though
Bert Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 The match I remember was against Bolton in the league cup where we were comfortably winning until Spider came on. Could be wrong and usually am thoughI'm 99% certain he made his debut v West Brom. Not that it matters, he was crap in both!
Hugo Sanchez Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 I'm 99% certain he made his debut v West Brom. Not that it matters, he was crap in both! Bert is right, his debut was at WBA. We were 3 up at half time and scott Taylor scored 2. Was on telly. Bolton was a few days after in the coca cola cup and we lost 3-2.
bovril Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 He did indeed make his debut in that game and was atrocious on crosses. I've never seen such an incompetent goalkeeper as Kalac in those two games.
stripeyfox Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Erik Thorstvedt had a 'mare on his debut for Spurs, many years ago...
Vlad the Fox Posted 3 February 2014 Author Posted 3 February 2014 I can remember getting worried watching Kalac dropping the ball in the warm up.

I've never seen such an incompetent goalkeeper as Kalac in those two games. At the time I was in a band who would throw in the occasional acid jazz / funk version of a 70's TV theme, on this occasion slightly ammended;- Spider Man, Spider Man Does whatever a spider can, He is big, he is tall, He can't catch, a f***ing ball
