DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 As a Leicester fan you of all people should be aware that transfer fees don't tell the whole story of money laid on for a player. Most of those listed will be on £30k+ a week which is just about acceptable for maybe one or two key members of your squad at this level, but as a regular wage it's obscene for a Ch'ship club. If they go up, they will recoup it, plus the rest of the shed loads of dosh they will make, It all depends on the promotion factor. Why can't some people understand this basic logic?
dayday Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 You can add Forest to the list of trying to buy the league,I am sure Fawaz said they have signed 18 players this season on a permanent/loan move.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 They've done considerably well at it, we would've given our left bollock to be in the position they are in whilst we were under Sven. Although I'll agree that their spending has become ridiculous they could be in a West Ham situation.
Guest ttfn Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 Dunne: Free Transfer Assou-Ekotto: On loan from Spurs Kranjcar: On loan from Dynamo Kiev Keane: On loan from Man Utd Doyle: Free Transfer Aaron Hughes Free Transfer Not a single penny spent in transfer fees on any of them. This is a completely laughable response and I don't think you need any explanation as to why. But if they're not earning £200k a week (that's TEN MILLION POUNDS A YEAR) between them I'd be surprised. Edit: I would be genuinely surprised to learn that our starting XI for the game against Watford collectively earned that much. That will be more than the entire wage bill for at least 15 sides in the division. Redknapp is pathetically underachieving given the resources and time he has had. It's not like he's been there 2 months with these guys - they don't look much better than they did a year ago.

And how do you know QPR are paying all of their wages on the loans and huge salaries on the free transfers? I'm not sure what people's motives are here for wanting to do down QPR and Redknapp apart from fear of them catching us. Are they underachieving given the quality of their squad on paper? Yes Did QPR make a raft of mistakes while Mark Hughes was the Manager? For me Yes Was there a player power culture gone mad amongst their squad when Redknapp took over? God yes Has Redknapp weeded out the worst offenders and replaced them with players with a point to prove? For me yes Can I think of anyone who could do a better job as Manager of this QPR squad? No, Redknapp's strength is motivation. Does anyone on here really know how much money QPR have spent in wages given they have also loaned out some of their larger earners? Nope Have QPR spent more than most in our league? Probably Will they be promoted? For me yes in 2nd place in my opinion.

You've conveniently left out Matt Phillips and Charlie Austin who between them cost a little less than £10m. Now I know what you're going to say, both fees were 'undisclosed' But these undisclosed fees have a habit of getting out and it isn't difficult to believe the fees since Blackpool previously turned down £6m for Phillips and Austin was the top goal scorer, last season.Harry is a fraud and he should be walking this league with all the money he's spunked.

God yes Has Redknapp weeded out the worst offenders and replaced them with players with a point to prove? For me yes - I'd love to know what point you think Aaron Hughes, Niko Kranjcar, Richard Dunne, Danny Simpson and Benoit Assou-Ekotto are proving in the Championship! Can I think of anyone who could do a better job as Manager of this QPR squad? No, Redknapp's strength is motivation. - I could name you 25 managers in this country alone that I think would have done a better job than Redknapp. What has he done exactly? He came in, had 25 games to keep QPR up and they got relegated by miles having spent £20 million in January and £5 million in half a season on Samba and Remy's wages alone. Does anyone on here really know how much money QPR have spent in wages given they have also loaned out some of their larger earners? Nope - but I think we can all take a pretty bloody good guess. Have QPR spent more than most in our league? Probably - More than MOST?! Will they be promoted? For me yes in 2nd place in my opinion. - Agreed? So just to get this straight... You're willing to believe that QPR aren't paying 100% of the salaries of the players they are loaning in, but are also paying 0% of the salaries they are loaning out? If that is the case then the business that has been done there is astonishing. But we all know that's rubbish. It's not about wanting to do down QPR, it's about not wanting to see another club run into the ground by old 'Arry.
Oxfordfox83 Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 Biggest stat for me is 37 goals in 30 games. That isn't promotion form. It means you're going to struggle to win any game where you concede, and a couple in a row leaves players and fans wondering how it can be turned around. We've been in second to Harry before (chasing Pompey under Adams), when lots of money was spent and they were a class above. Then, the team he built was actually impressive and going places (albeit expensively and we all know what happened a very few years later). This time they look destined for fourth at best. Even if they do go up this year, the fabled 60m that we will have to spend (subject to promotion, see T&Cs) they have already spent on a bang average upper Championship squad with expensive loanees. They'll have to begin again with much less cash than us, or Burnley, or whoever else goes up too. I feel for QPR fans, the handful I know are a pretty decent bunch and haven't historically had the delusions of grandeur that, for example, Forest or West Ham would have with Arry and his cash floating around. But the club, manager and players don't deserve promotion, and I hope they stay down.
lancyclaret Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 QPR are apparently trying to get Scott Parker on loan from Fulham to play alongside Ravel Morrison, who is set to arrive on Friday at Loftus Road.

Cos if there's one department where QPR are struggling for players, it's midfield Harry said one of the problems on Saturday is Reading was that his side looked like 'a team of strangers' - so his solution is to bring in a couple more strangers? The bloke's a grade A mug trying to hide his complete lack of tactical nous by signing a raft of flashy players.
Happy Fox Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 QPR to finish outside the playoffs 7th place, Wigan will steam roll past them imo.

You consider a Grade A mug to be as wealthy as Arry is, to have managed the number of clubs he has and to have generated the media popularity he appears to have done? Fair enough.. QPR might not go up this season (of course, they still might as well... theres TONS of games left). But if you see Redknapp as a 'Grade A mug' then I'd like to know what you would consider a succesful man to be. Your post kinda shows again, the animosity towards Arry, epitomised in an over-the-top comment which aint thought out. If Arry is anything, he's no mug.
yorkie1999 Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 There must be a fantastic team spirit at qpr. The players must think every time they have a bad game, redknap is just going to get someone else in to replace them.
lancyclaret Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 QPR even made a cheeky bid to get Defoe on loan before he starts his stint in Canada:)

fleckneymike Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 I don't understand the fuss. Our side was hardly put together using green shield stamps.

Whatever he was and whatever his past successes, that comment is the comment of someone who currently hasn't got a clue, he is saying his team are playing like strangers, wonder why that is, and his solution is to bring in more players. I was a big critic of Sven when he was here, and Harry is making the same mistakes, but he should know better.
Guest Col city fan Posted 19 February 2014 Posted 19 February 2014 I don't understand the fuss. Our side was hardly put together using green shield stamps. That will be pushed under the carpet Mike.. When I last looked we still had Nugent, Kasper, Gally, Danns at the club. None of them on tuppence h'penny a week. Pearson has done well to ship out, but has also made some relatively expensive signings, at this level. It would be interesting to see (genuine question) whether the Players Redknapp has let go, vis-a-vis the ones brought in, have reduced in a net increase on the wage bill, or decrease?

Look Col, you like him and rate him, I don't - simple as that. I think he's a total chancer and he's finally found a job where he can't just throw money at the problem and it's shown him up for the poor tactician he is. The fact that he identified the problem in his side last week (too many individuals and no team) and his solution is to throw more money around just sums him up for me. You're obviosuly a bit enamored by 'Arry' and the image he's carefully cultivated over the years, but I'm not - you're not going to change my mind and I don't see why you feel the need to stick up for him all the time? You've been doing it a lot lately - what does it matter to you, as a Leicester fan, what other Leicester fans think of Harry Redknapp?

What I can say with some certainty though is whatever deals were done Harry got a good 'Drink' out of it. I think QPR's problem is that they have kept a squad of players that by and large see themselves as playing at level below their capabilities, and whilst Redknapp is the right type of Manager to get them going there is quite obviously still issues there. Add that to what is a slow ageing centre half pairing and some injuries to key regular starters and they are not having the best of seasons given the personnel at their disposal. I still think they will get up though, and whilst they have spent more than most, they can afford to with the parachute payments they are enjoying and it's not as extravagant as some would make out on here.

For the record (and this is the point), I have no fascination for Redknapp. I don't care a jot how he does, what he does or who QPR are. But to call him a 'Grade a mug' is barmy. Isn't it? Not liking the bloke is one thing. Suggesting he's some 'mug' is another. I suggest your interest in Redknapp is actually more than mine.

Paul Ince has managed a lot of clubs, I think he's a mug as a manager. I'm not saying he's as good as Redknapp (nowhere near) but managers do get plenty of jobs when they aren't all that amazing. The media profile comes from managing West Ham (lot of press support them) and Tottenham (media darlings), and for talking almost non-stop to the press, giving them plenty of stuff to work with and being the transfer deadline day hero of the wound down car window. If you talk to the press about virtually everything you are going to be liked.
