jammie82uk Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Ugh. So DMU get a partnership with City and Leicester with the Tigers? Feeling a bit left out as a Loughborough student... Please don't give us LeicestershireCCC though DMU has partnerships with Leicester City, Leicester Tigers, Leicestershire County Cricket Club and the Leicester Riders
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 They also get free cheeseburgers at McDonalds and a load of coupons in their University Magazine. So many bitter people on here. A handful of people who are heavily indebted and strapped for cash already (and who are the next generation of an educated workforce) might get to see a football match that you have to pay for. In what way has it changed your experience at all?
Leicester Lass Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Leicester Lass, will this continue should we get promoted, or is this deal on the basis we are in the Championship and therefore demand is expected to be lower? I'm not sure, I'll try and find out in the FCC meeting next week for you.
Corky Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I'm not sure, I'll try and find out in the FCC meeting next week for you. Thanks Just with the expected rise in matchday and season ticket prices should we get promoted the discrepancy could be greater, and obviously demand much higher.
DennisNedry Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I don't see a big problem with this. I had my first day at Leicester College (Freemans Common) on Monday doing day release from work. I got talking to some of the people in my class (they have been there since September) at lunch about football, and they informed me I could get £5 tickets from there with the Student card you are given. 3 or 4 of them had never been to a football match before but this season they have gone down together a few times. It's better to have seats sold cheap than have them empty, and they might end up paying full price when they leave college.
Chazwaz Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I don't really have a problem with this but because i go to a different uni I have to pay full price on top of travel prices which makes it really hard to afford for me.
Webbo Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 These students go to Uni in the hope of getting a lucrative career. Some of these people could be captains of industry in years to come. It makes sense to try and capture some these future high rollers as fans at an early age in the hope that they become regulars in the years to come.

deejdeej Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Just think its a shame that loyal fans over the years have spent tens of thousands and gone through thick and then get no preferential treatment, but somebody that hasn't spent a penny or has no affiliation with the club gets in for free. Not blaming the club for this massively, its most likely the same with the majority of clubs.
Head Honcho Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Despite having a season ticket I used to get a freebie off of Walkers Crisps every game inc ZDS FA Cup etc etc

Not blaming the club for this massively, its most likely the same with the majority of clubs. That person is owed nothing anyway. In each instance he spends his money, he gets what he paid for in the form of a ticket to the game. Why would he get preferential treatment? Not only that, where is the incentive to give him anything? It makes sense to try and convince people who don't yet attend the games, like young people or people from different geographical areas, i.e students. Furthermore, the person in your hypothetical scenario has a greater earning power than a student. That's what the whole concept of student discounts is about. And the fact is that they can only take advantage of this offer at most while they are a student. If they get hooked on Leicester during that period, you've got a new fan for life who may spend money on games and merchandise when he may not have been to a game at all in the first place if it weren't free.
maynefox Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 "insulting"?100 students who would have a pint and have a good time, whilst filling the ground a bit. Not like *we'll sell out anyway. Think you're a bit over the top not like they are offering 100 free tickets for Forest Away, for example

Sharmania Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 The only thing I don't like about this is people who turn their nose up at the £5 tickets and say "I wish they were in the Premier League, then I'd go." You get that a lot on campus as well! The club/university tries to do a favour and people still turn their nose up at it.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 the club should just charge tickets for a reasonable amount of money all over the ground so that your students, OAPs, young parents etc can afford and its fair for everyone. i had a season ticket for 7 years but now i have a baby and work and dont get a huge amount of money i simply cant afford a ST anymore and cant afford a 25 - 30 pound ticket for me and my bird. Was this you I saw at the last match?
maynefox Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Never seen people be so irked at a handful of the 5k minimum empty seats getting filled with people who might even become Leicester fans as a result. I know it's laughable. "OMG 100 seats. How dare those poor students, who are 'plastic' fans and will probably have a pint at the game (if not in a pub) take 100 seats out of a stadium of over 32,000" .. Anyway I will be going to the game tomorrow. Looking forward to it as ever!
maynefox Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 you would be so pissed off though if you are a seson ticket and on minimum wage.... a lot of students have more money you might think. My parents pay for my rent which leaves me with £1200 a term (approx 10 weeks) so spend on whatever i like. That is around £100 a week, - £30/£40 on food as i try to eat well/ that's £60 a week on doing what you like! and not a lot of students are on £100 a week.
Russell sprout Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I work full time on a crap wage to Fund my season ticket, To give tickets away for free is an insult, The students already don't pay tax then get given free tickets, The club might aswell offer 100 lucky fans on job seekers allowance a free tickets every time they sign on in the hope they've gained an extra paying customer when they find a job.

Stop talking shit.Don't pay tax? What do you expect students to pay tax on? We pay VAT, but we can hardly have a full time job with our studies. If you're on such a crap wage, it's likely you'll never pay as much tax as most students anyway.

You'll probable never pay back your student loan either pal,not a bad lifestyle is it,go school, get pissed, get free tickets to the football, all whilst building up a debt you'll never pay back,oh well
Father Ted Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I wonder if this will continue when we go up... Then people can have a right to be pissed off tbh Although, I agree with absolutely everybody moaning. Why should PROPER City fans have to pay gold prices when a random Londoner that goes to Uni here gets in for a fiver (or free even)?

Life could be worse.
steveherbe Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Lucky you, I know people who have to work to pay their rent and buy food. I know students who get money from their parents to help with food. Bloody scroungers. Then again, I know students that work 40 hours a week so they can have a Fiesta Zetec S. Future of our country......
