JonnyBoy Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Correct. I work for Leicester Uni and we got stuck with the Tigers partnership instead. Pah. haha, that seems a bit Stereotyped. The Clever kids will be more into Rugby so lets give them that partnership
blueonyou Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 its just pissing on loyal Leicester fans who have been for years paying ridiculous prices. End of topic Why not do it for fans who have bought tickets through the season and can't afford to go to so many games a month? So ticket prices should be means tested? right. Im baffled by some of the shortsightedness here. Like another poster eluded to, DMU have a strategic partnership with the club which believe it or not does more for the club than give away some cheap tickets to a a bunch of neutrals. Get over it.
lavrentis Posted 21 February 2014 Author Posted 21 February 2014 Sounds like great business. Lets tap into the poor student market who aren't even city fans and will be ****ing off in 3 years time
davieG Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I really can't see what benefit there is for the club in doing this apart from filling in a few empty seats, unless by chance they happen to be Leicester people attending their local university in which case they could become regular attendees, a long shot I would think. They're not going to be buying merchandise or even a programme and the food and drink is franchised so nothing to gain there.
blueonyou Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Sounds like great business. Lets tap into the poor student market who aren't even city fans and will be ****ing off in 3 years time Poor students is a myth! I'm sure they are also counting the beers and food they will buy too. Probably per head spend is the same as nan and grandson who buy a ticket in C1 and bring their own bottle of pop.
blueonyou Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 the food and drink is franchised so nothing to gain there. So they don't make any money because the food outlets are franchised?
davieG Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 DMU subsidise the tickets by the way, not LCFC. They paid us a huge amount in relation to the business partnership. Why do they do it, what benefit is it to the dmu, what do they get from lcfc in return?
Foxhateram Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 you would be so pissed off though if you are a seson ticket and on minimum wage.... a lot of students have more money you might think. My parents pay for my rent which leaves me with £1200 a term (approx 10 weeks) so spend on whatever i like. That is around £100 a week, - £30/£40 on food as i try to eat well/ that's £60 a week on doing what you like! If your parents pay the rent why the hell would you take out a maintenance loan with the interest they charge? Anywho very frustrating that tickets are being given away! Missed out on this one as money is tight this month. Could have been my 6 th of the season as well. ( live in devon) trying to beat my record of 7 games a few seasons ago.
lcfc278 Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 do you have to be a student to get the £5 tickets too?
lavrentis Posted 21 February 2014 Author Posted 21 February 2014 do you have to be a student to get the £5 tickets too? Yes
Corky Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Leicester Lass, will this continue should we get promoted, or is this deal on the basis we are in the Championship and therefore demand is expected to be lower?
Oxfordfox83 Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Most students that will go won't even be Leicester fans anyway and wouldn't have heard of any of the players. Is THAT who calls Radio Leicester?? I was wondering...
lcfc278 Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Yes Any students want to go buy me some of these im skint!
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 haha, that seems a bit Stereotyped. The Clever kids will be more into Rugby so lets give them that partnership Yeah pretty much. All of our brochures have an "About the City" section which has a massive paragraph and photo of the Tigers, then a tiny sentence after that says that we're also home to Leicester City FC, who are looking for a long-awaited return to the Premiership. The amount of times I've suggested to the Press Office to include more about Leicester City and dug out great photos that they'd be able to get image rights to but they're not interested.
Guest MattP Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 So ticket prices should be means tested? right. Im baffled by some of the shortsightedness here. Like another poster eluded to, DMU have a strategic partnership with the club which believe it or not does more for the club than give away some cheap tickets to a a bunch of neutrals. Get over it. It sounds like a really bizarre business strategy, I'd love to know the ins and outs of it. Its seems very minimal gain (food and drink are franchised so we dont get anything if they buy 25 beers) for the bad PR it receives among the rest of the fans. Why is it shortsighted?
ousefox Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 If your parents pay the rent why the hell would you take out a maintenance loan with the interest they charge? Anywho very frustrating that tickets are being given away! Missed out on this one as money is tight this month. Could have been my 6 th of the season as well. ( live in devon) trying to beat my record of 7 games a few seasons ago. Exactly! I paid for my own accommodation from working and have avoided the loan even if it has left me a little short changed this year. There has been a huge information failure with this and the rest of the new student loan system which I'm sure the government quite happy about. None of my mates have a clue how much they're paying in interest every year. Back to this subject, if it is part of the partnership you can't really argue if DMU have paid for it - it's just an advantage DMU students have got by going there I guess. If they were giving them to DMU students with no gain, then it would be a different story altogether. No chance it will happen next year if we go up either. They'll be lucky if they get given tickets for a tenner against a team like Hull if we were in the Prem.
Adster Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Really don't see the problem with this. Think the OP needs to hop off the bandwagon.
filbertway Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I feel sorry for the 100 fans that are going to miss out on these sell-out fixtures. Absolute monsters giving away some free tickets!
yorkie1999 Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 the Barnsley tickets have student ticket ages between 18-20.. what's all that about.. I am a student and who is 21 so what am i going to do? not paying full price. Bollocks to that Yes but now you're an older student you'll have to start subsidising the younger students. All in it together brother.
deejdeej Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Yeah lets give them away to any tom dick and harry that could be forest or derby supporters for all we know. I think I have a hatred for students because I was too stupid to even consider uni ha!
TheUltimateWinner Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Whilst it slightly peeves it of that these guys get to watch the rest of the season for free whilst im forking out for a season ticket, in the long term it might be wise marketing. You have the effect of; One friend has a free ticket, and gets othersto go with him People who wouldn't watch football normally getting into it Sales inside the ground More seats filled Also, alot of the time it it won't be the same people getting free tickets.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I know one DMU student who wasn't a city fan but has now become one thanks to this sort of thing Don't see the problem tbh
Xen Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Ugh. So DMU get a partnership with City and Leicester with the Tigers? Feeling a bit left out as a Loughborough student... Please don't give us LeicestershireCCC though
XLM Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Nothing wrong with it. Where's the harm in letting students, largely from other parts of the country, experience a few games here. They're filling seats that would have been empty if they weren't there. Naturally from a business perspective, any profit made from the students is surely a bonus given that they wouldn't have been accounted for if tickets weren't given away? They should do this for workplaces and colleges in my opinion. The closer we get to stadium capacity the better it is for the club.
Alex_LCFC Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 the club should just charge tickets for a reasonable amount of money all over the ground so that your students, OAPs, young parents etc can afford and its fair for everyone. i had a season ticket for 7 years but now i have a baby and work and dont get a huge amount of money i simply cant afford a ST anymore and cant afford a 25 - 30 pound ticket for me and my bird.
