lavrentis Posted 21 February 2014 Author Posted 21 February 2014 I am a student and agree that some students act like the biggest victims
Voll Blau Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Would feel better if this initiative was for local schools. Our ticket prices take the absolute piss so it does seem a little bit rich for the club to be basically doling out free stuff to neutrals when they could be doing more to make tickets affordable for us ordinary punters. That said I see it's brought out the usual boring "tax dodging student" type comments for no apparent reason. Great.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 No one is forced to buy a ticket it's your choice, stop whining Every club gives away free tickets, man utd give away 1000's
ScouseFox Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I'm not a student but of student age, I work a lot of hours to get my own money. I'm going tomorrow (1st game of the season due to work and lack of money) and the trains, ticket and beers are going to cost me about £80. The ticket alone is £26 I think. And the week after some nob jockey from Norwich with no care for LCFC in the slightest is going to get in for free just cos he's got fúck all else to do on a Saturday. Fair?
Sharmania Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I work full time on a crap wage to Fund my season ticket, To give tickets away for free is an insult, The students already don't pay tax then get given free tickets, The club might aswell offer 100 lucky fans on job seekers allowance a free tickets every time they sign on in the hope they've gained an extra paying customer when they find a job. Stop talking shit. Don't pay tax? What do you expect students to pay tax on? We pay VAT, but we can hardly have a full time job with our studies. If you're on such a crap wage, it's likely you'll never pay as much tax as most students anyway. It's so hard to call these things. Everybody is in different cirumstances. I go to DMU, and despite being from Hampshire was always raised a City fan by my Leicester-born dad, meaning I have a season ticket. There are SO many people that go to DMU that support City. About 50% of the people I know do in fact. As for people taking jibes at people in different circumstances it's a bit uncalled for isn't it? Why don't I say it's your own fault you have a rubbish job because you should have tried harder when you were younger? I wouldn't because I have no idea what you even do, etc. It'd be ridiculous! There are people who go out on the p1ss and then complain they have no money, and there are people who work hard while juggling studies and a job. You can't put everybody in the same category. Yes, there will be Man U fans who turn up and complain about what Championship football is like, but there will be fans, or people who haven't been to a football match that fancy trying it out, that do go. People will complain but no one will do anything. We'll all continue to pay and this thread will drop below a "Drop David Nugent" thread tomorrow.
Grewks Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I would not quite describe the tickets as 'free' to be honest. As someone has already stated, there is a partnership between the Uni and the club for which a fee is paid from the uni to the club. To be honest, i cannot see people taking the tickets who are not interested in football or leicester city. Numerous times in the past i have been eligible for free tickets to leicestershire foxes and leicester tigers games, have i taken them? No, because the sport simply doesn't interest me. Lets be honest. If the thread was instead about giving '100 tickets to local charity for those with disabilities' then it would be considered a 'good thing to do by the club'. But in my mind, i fail to see how you could justify supporting one over the other. Another thing to remember about these students is the vast amount of money they spend on uni fees (£5000+ a year) and accommodation which would obviously be within leicester. If the club want to help support local organisations then why not support them?
Poiseuille Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 DMU student from overseas or even different city goes to free LCFC game through DMU scheme... Loves it, has great experience, tells people back home how great DMU experience is.... His/her younger brother/sister then WANT to go DMU as they've heard it's so great... DMU becomes a more in demand uni and continues to pay LCFC for subsidied tickets. These sort of scenarios, OK not with every student, but times it by the hundreds that go, it's all to make DMU more appealing
Alexikokopops Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 You'll probable never pay back your student loan either pal,not a bad lifestyle is it,go school, get pissed, get free tickets to the football, all whilst building up a debt you'll never pay back,oh well Should have gone mate, you'd have loved it.
JonnyBoy Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 If your parents pay the rent why the hell would you take out a maintenance loan with the interest they charge? Anywho very frustrating that tickets are being given away! Missed out on this one as money is tight this month. Could have been my 6 th of the season as well. ( live in devon) trying to beat my record of 7 games a few seasons ago. errrr to live on maybe?? i also have a job too. It is all relative anyway, you only pay it back once you earn over £18,000 and even then it is like 20 pounds a month. Obviously it goes up the more i earn. the more i earn the less it will affect me, plus it will go out with my tax so i will never see it which isn't so bad. I would rather have a good time at uni than live off a food shop a week and miss out on the uni experience
Trumpet Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 I bought myself a student ticket for the Boro game and even though they are cheap, I couldn't sit there again. I'd rather pay full price.
jammie82uk Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 I bought myself a student ticket for the Boro game and even though they are cheap, I couldn't sit there again. I'd rather pay full price. Where was the ticket for?
TheRutlandfox Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Hi newbie poster here but foxes fan since going as a kid with my late dad the 60s . I have to say that I work all over the country and it is amazing how many Foxes and Tigers fans I bump into not from Leicester that started off following us because they went to Uni at Leicester or Loughborough so I guess there may also be some of that in there as well although understand if you are paying out for a season ticket and someone gets in for free or under a tenner how it may feel Great game as always at the KP . Sat down on row N for a change in in SK1 today, never been so low down, normally up with the naughty boys at the back of the KOP. Onwards and Up
Dylan Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Don't see a problem with it, think most clubs do it... I know I can get discounted tickets for QPR games if I wanted to.
yorkie1999 Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Sean from Enderby is a DMU student in retology
Sir Steve Howard Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 the Barnsley tickets have student ticket ages between 18-20.. what's all that about.. I am a student and who is 21 so what am i going to do? not paying full price. Bollocks to that Well seeing as mummy and daddy are paying all of your rent, so you have 100 quid to spunk away every week I don't see what you're complaining about really
Leicester Lass Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Leicester Lass, will this continue should we get promoted, or is this deal on the basis we are in the Championship and therefore demand is expected to be lower? DMU will be a business partner next season regardless of divisional status so will still have tickets at their disposal, albeit a limited amount and only in the one area of the ground. If we go up the club will review the other student ticket policies and the corporate policies.
Vlad the Fox Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Anyone get tickets? The mrs had to leave the queue to get to a lecture as it was taking too long but she said there was plenty of people in the three queues.
Foxhateram Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 errrr to live on maybe?? i also have a job too. I would rather have a good time at uni than live off a food shop a week and miss out on the uni experience Now after being at uni, had I had the chance to do it all without a loan, I would have snapped your hands off. I have been paying off my loan for 18 months now at 40 pounds a month ( all they will let me pay) due to interest alone i now have a bigger debt then when I started paying. It's a scam and a shambles. I have just convinced them to up it to 50 quid a month meaning I am now just about breaking even with the interest, until it rises again next year. Absolutely crazy! Don't let anyone fool you into thinking its a free debt that you will never notice. Anyways have fun DMU Students who get free tickets. Bloody students! Ha I can say that now!
Vlad the Fox Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 If you can go Uni without needing the loan surely it would be good practice to take the loan and invest it?
Foxhateram Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 If you can go Uni without needing the loan surely it would be good practice to take the loan and invest it? Interesting point, but seriously interest rates are ridiculously high.

Student goes to Leicester game because its free or they have no other plans, turns out to actually love the game and maybe, MAYBE, wants to invest in a season ticket next season or for them to pay full price to go to another game this season. Whilst potentially spending more money whilst inside the ground on drinks/programmes etc. Simple and effective marketing. Its good marketing and as them seats most likely wouldn't be taken anyway I think it's a pretty decent strategy to be honest.
